Great video! I just got an RNT lil Richie and wasn’t happy with the sound. This just completely changed my mind about this call and I used the supplied reeds RNT sent!

That’s what we like to hear! Everyone has different styles of blowing and it’s 99% in the tuning. It’s almost never the call itself

Hey man some great info here! I've got a few things that will help you and your viewers out in the future. 1) Most important thing, When changing a cork you want to chew the cork before putting it in the call. Do not put it in dry. Forcing the cork in the cork slot before getting some spit on it and softening it up is a sure fire way to break a cork tab off. 1A) Since you are putting the cork in pre-chewed and moistened you can go ahead and put the reed in at the same time. 1B) When replacing the cork. Place the reed both centered and all the way to the bottom of the cork slot. Then hold the reed down to the tone board with your thumb as you slide the cork into the slot. if your reed slips down the bottom could get bent and effect the sound. This is heart breaking when it happens to a competition call that is dialed in perfectly! 1C) Use a $1 box cutter to trim the excess cork. It will leave a cleaner line especially if your pocket knife gets as dull as mine does. 2) Just a comment. RNT has to try to tune the calls to try and fit the most people possible. So it makes perfect since that you can get a better sound by playing around cutting a new reed. I would say it would benefit all callers to mess around cutting different reeds. Make sure to keep the original uncut. That way while you are learning how to cut one you can always go back to the way it sounded from RNT. 2A)When learning how to cut a reed, more than likely the one from RNT will be close to the correct length. It may not have the dog ear you like but the length will be close. Use the original reed to give yourself a starting point. Cut your new reed just a bit longer than the original. This will give you a deeper sound and be a little harder to blow than the original and you can dial it in from there. 3) I don't know if it matters or not but I would use RNT's replacement corks in RNT calls and echo's replacement for echo calls. There could be fractions of difference in the two that could cause your cork tab to bust off.

Thanks for the video...Do wanna say with your video on feeder chuckle I've been fighting for long time to try and get the faster roll to it tried ticka ticka duga duga switched over to your advice to say good into the call got that rolling sound pretty much 5-10 min into trying it thanks for the advice now that I've got my start I'll continue to get better

Same here on the feeding chuckle. "Good" or "gooda" has worked great for me where I struggled with "ticka" and "duga".

I’ve mastered my cheap double reed so I just bought my first single reed. Do you have any tips on making the transition from double reed to single reed as far as presenting air and things like that?

Great vid, and great channel, I'm a fellow MN duck hunter. I commented on a video of yours a few weeks ago on how to find spots to hunt. It helped me find a couple spots to go out and hunt, the one I went to was the Carlos Avery nwma, when I went here it was super crowded but I had found some good spots there but I can't seem to have much luck, I always see a bunch of ducks but they never seem to come to where I am but my problem is I don't have a boat or canoe to hunt from which really limits where I can go. Do u guys have any recommendations for hunting without a boat? And finding a spot where it's shallow enough to just use chest waders? Thanks Riley tietel

Throw a little love seed on it, it's what I do. But be careful, leave it out in the sun too long and it'll start growing little duckling calls and then your in a heap o trouble

Invest in a slotted bag instead of clear coating. Easy to over do the clear coat and make it shine.

I never could get a square Reed to sound anything like a duck and echo reeds tune to ringing which I also hate. I end up buying cut down reeds for everything although I always go through the process of getting other reeds and materials because some calls sound better with hard plastic reeds and some stiffer laminate.

do you ever use the reelfoot style hail call? or do you ever use the main street ring? Lets say the public marsh is empty and birds are 700 yards away. Do you still think a high ball doesn't work?
@midwestflyways
@midwestflyways 5 жыл бұрын
It’s one of those things where if you know normal stuff isn’t going to work, why not use a hail. 99% of the time I don’t
@FrankMaster73

Midwest Flyways true. I heard it can work really well depending on weather. I am fairly new to calling so I really only do it when the public marsh is empty out of respect for other callers.

Midwest Flyways I am also in the south, so by the time they get here they are looking for somewhere to rest. I am in Tennessee where that style of calling was invented. I heard cloudy conditions help too. They are sort of Starting out or native birds when you see them. Could that be it?
