Great instruction! I bought the blacked out helicopter and the same fan you suggested. The install went extremely smooth, as I knew what to expect after watching your video. The only thing I did differently was use a nut and a washer inside the cockpit because I didn't have room for the wing nut. Again, thanks! People love this thing and I've been forwarding your video to them for instructions!

Really awesome idea, especially for a kid's room or a general game room, man cave, etc. Have you thought about a way to add LED lights to light the cockpit controls or flashing navigation lights, etc? It would really bring it to life.

John Hopkins, it really depends on the kind of fan you have. We used the Hampton Bay model YG204, WH. As you can see in the video we unscrewed the junction box at the bottom (where you can add a light). We drilled a hole with a 7/32 drill bit right down the center of where the old rotorblade assembly would go. Then put the long 1/4 bolt (shown in the video) through the fan junction box cap (perfect fit once the bottom screw is removed). Then the screw was drilled down through where you drilled until it's tight, but not too tight. Next step, screw the junction box cap right back onto the fan.

I also think that the base that attaches to the ceiling should be The same color as the ceiling(white?) I’m fine with the blades being OD green but I think they would probably look more natural being black. Maybe throw yellow stripe near the ends or something to give it that helicopter Blade feeling.

Cool stuff there. But one concern is it’s low hanging can restrict people movement and it’s accident- prone, any careless knock on the helicopter would push its tail into the fan spinning zone.

Painting the top of the fan the same colour of the ceiling might look better, would look like helicopter was hovering xxx

How did you do the yellow numbers? Paint and stencil? Trying to print anything yellow on decal paper didn't work for me. ☹ Also, I had to use a 4" bolt, not 2.5". 21st Century Toys must have modified the interior design...

You should have painted the motor housing of the fan to match the ceiling instead of green like the helicopter.
