It was not put to the test so we don’t know that. As far as being smooth like lexan plastic in rc bodies, chrome is nickel plating and is WAY more solid than lexan plastic. Createx paint is specific to adhere to a variety of plastics when used with their proper additives like airborne sealer and balancing clear there for it does not require an adhesion promoter like bulldog. Even if you were able to scuff chrome with a 3000 grit sponge, it’s smooth enough that you would not even notice the scratches in the finish BUT it STILL will not extend the longevity of the paint jobs integrity Bcs the ONLY thing that sticks to bare metal or chrome plating is an epoxy primer “with or without” self etching primer. A lot of ppl shoot candy over chrome rims and other chrome stuff to get that MIRROR candy like a Christmas ball ornament but the most that can be done is spraying BULLDOG “adhesion promoter” over the chrome and then go on with the paint job. Even tho the door handle is plastic it’s still copper plated and then nickel plated over that so it’s still a metal surface. The BEST way to get a durable candy chrome paint job you need two things…. A primer or better yet a sealer on your surface prior to your first application of paint so that it sticks and don’t chip or flake off. Secondly you realllly want to have a clear coat to protect it from scratches of wear and tear and from color fade. There are ways to accomplish a chrome look with paint. One way is the brand Spax Stix, read their directions. Option 2 is a more expensive chrome paint method which there are several so you can Google your options, I’m just elaborating the downfall of painting over nickel plated chrome. I’m not knocking nooo body’s work with all due respect from one painter to another I’m just talking Bcs I LOVVVVE paint man lol! I’ll paint anything I can get my hands on.

@@BLACKRAIN390 I started off using Tamiya's transparent yellow, if I wanted a deeper gold I would mix a little trans orange into it. But now I use just Createx as its mainly what I use these days for my go to paints.

Noooooo….. createx is good stuff but NOT for these extreme conditions. They are not automotive approved nor qualified to meet those standards and requirements. Candy over chrome NEVER lasts long not even if it’s automotive candy and clear coat like you should do in your case. Unless your chrome needs to be painted bcs it’s already old, don’t do it trust me. If you MUST and you want it, then go with automotive paint all the way. Createx makes some gorgeous colors very beautiful stuff but it’s still water based paint my friend.

Yes your very in tune I love it when ppl ask good questions instead of basic comments…. #1 It will FADE from UV without an automotive grade clear coat. #2 it will chip and scratch from jewelry and the “elements” as you so correctly worded it. Try the badger 105…. It’s a mainstream air brush widely used on rc bodies. It’s reliable and can do thin lines and up to a 3” fan pattern. Also go check out SKIN JOBS RC. I hope this was helpful.

It’s water based paint, so no. Only paints consisting of highly volatile solvents are impervious enough to withstand the elements of outdoor sun and rain plus on road driving. Those like automotive grade paint. Plus enough createx paint to cover one chrome bumper will be extraordinarily expensive more than automotive grade enamel paint, especially candy2.o oh my word lol. Enamel is reduced 1:1 so you’ll get half a gallon of paint by reducing one quart of car paint. Createx is only reduced 10%…. Black is the cheapest color, so…… 1 quart of black car paint (enamel) is about $25 and when you reduce it you’ll have HALF A GALLON of paint that is ready to be sprayed.………1 quart of createx black will be $60 and when you reduce it, it’s only reduced 10% so you’ll still have quart. A gallon of enamel reducer is $25……. A gallon of createx reducer will be $100. Createx is priced due to its beautiful colors and ability to be sprayed with an airbrush for a very fine mist. It may be EXPENSIVE in terms of volume BUT when using createx to create art, it I will yield lots of profit with minimal waste bcs ppl are paying for your talent. Every paint has its purpose and place.

@ Trinidad Hydrographic painters…Plastic primer adhesion promoter is an incorrect term. It’s defined as “plastic adhesion promoter”. There’s no primer anywhere… also, it’s meant to be applied DIRECTLY onto bare “unprimed” plastic and NOT above ANY paint. Clear coat does NOT need adhesion promoter to stick to ANY base coat candy or not. Worst of all it will change the color of the gold and it will add unnecessary orange peel. The 3000 grit would have to be the sponge type grit in order to not create scratch marks btw and THEN you “could” attempt to shoot your adhesion promoter over the bare nickel chrome plating. The adhesion promoter is not really going to do anything to improve adhesion Bcs adhesion promoters are specifically designed to cut through the oils that all bare plastics contain so that it can bite onto the “porous” plastic and creating a semi sticky surface and even more so a surface that is oil free. This event will never yield benefit over nickel plating. I apologize if I disrespected or offended anyone but my advise is 100% credible and I’m here to show support to the entire paint industry and everybody within it. A professional does not need to know everything that I know in order to do his or her job BUT when those who lack knowledge come to watch videos in order to educate themselves is a WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY. When they mess something up, ain’t noooooo body going to be there for them.
