Beginner golfer here. I’ve swung a club a few times before buying my first set but never knew how to actually swing well in technical terms. I’ve started watching your videos and already feel like I’ve improved so much. I know the improvement is never ending in golf, but this is definitely a great start! Thank you for doing what you do!

Eric, my game was in serious decline for a month. Nothing was working. Went on a two week vacation and then caught your video when I returned. One practice session yesterday at the range and then shot the best round of the year today, by far. This was just what I needed!

Great advice, Eric. As a by-product of relaxing hand and arms, I note that a ball getting hit with full arm extension is always a more powerful shot than one where the arms and hands feel tight...and tend to pull back towards the body. I started noticing that pullback with my driver...and the resulting shots that feel off and thin....and with tendency to spin in unwanted ways. Relaxing and setting up with full arm extension makes a world of difference with all clubs.

Another great video - I’ve been working with my pro on the same thing. The problem for me is that while I’ve become pretty efficient on short irons, using this for driver does not come easy. A whole new person comes in to possess my body when that long club appears. Nonetheless, thank you for your continuing help via KZfaq!

Eric, I appreciate all your videos but I think this one has helped me the most. I took this to the course and noticed an immediate improvement. I have always struggled with getting too quick in transition and just chalked it up to bad timing. This lesson helped me get on track immediately. Thanks!

Totally agree with everything said in this video! Unfortunately there are some instructors saying "let the arms dominate and the body react", in essence reverse sequencing and casting. I don't pay attention to them, but they are very stubborn with their "facts".

Decades ago, once and once only I had that type of swing for one round of golf, my ball went farther and had so much more energy after the round I wanted to play another 18, but after that day I didn't realize what I had done, so I went back to a more tense swing, distance suffered. Mentally it's hard for many people realize that less can be more in anything including golf, so you have to believe in the process and execute. STAY FOCUSED at EVERY SHOT. Golf is more mental than physical IMO

I experienced the effortless power of a golf swing only several times in my lifetime. What I felt was the weight of the club catapulting the ball down the fairway with the effortless power you speak of. That feeling has escaped me ever since. The kinetic sequence that creates the centrifugal force is a very fleeting motion. Your demonstration of the grip pressure, arm hang and trunk/shoulder rotation is very essential in creating an effortless swing. Do you think you begin your forward swing by focusing on your upper body unwinding before your lower body which you stated in your hands,arms,upper body demonstration? I believe the kinetic change starts from the ground up but perhaps it doesn’t. Centrifugal force is a hard thing to teach and even more elusive, at least for me. I enjoy your instructional videos. Thanks,Jim
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 12 күн бұрын
Thanks Jim! It for sure starts from the ground up when measured.....BUT.....what CAUSES that? You could say that the INTENT from your brain to SWING YOUR ARMS.......MAKES......that lower body sequence start. Just like swinging a bat or throwing a ball.....our brains intent is to hit the ball (swing the bat) or throw the ball (arm) and that INTENT creates the reaction of the body motion (ground up)
@jimsimon1830
@jimsimon1830 12 күн бұрын
I agree that the thought from the brain initiates any movement your body makes. I think focusing on certain parts of the body can influence a person’s natural eye hand coordination. Your demonstration of simplifying the hands, arms and turning /rotating of the upper body is a great approach for all levels of ability. Thanks, jim

Fantastic tip of the day Eric. Was fighting the pulls and the closed face and it dawned on me that I had increased my squeeze pressure. Put on golf clothes and flew to the range and "bingo". Nice square face and much improved strike. Thanks

been working on grip pressure. Finding good results from a lighter grip and soft arms and shoulders. Brendon on Be Better Golf recently posted a couple of videos with an individual who developed a system to measure grip pressure. He has measured various golfers from amateurs to pros and claims that high level golfers increase grip pressure during transition and decrease it before and through impact. Thoughts?

This is definitely a key concept for power, release and low point control but very difficult to do as the sensation is of " loss of control " The grip generally tenses up at the top of the backswing as this is where you feel the weight of the club the most and the " need" to control comes in.

Question = how important is staying "tall" at setup during all this? Cause many/most are either bending over too much OR bending their knees too much .... worse .. both ... and the importance of using the length of your body to achieve this effortless swing in any rhythm is extremely important... .i'm hoping you do a video about this = not crowding the plate/ground too much .... love your videos as always ... one of the best ;)

So I notice your grip with irons, left hand crease neutral, pointing straight up and right hand stronger and crease pointing to back shoulder.. But in driver lessons, u have stronger right and left so creases aim to back shoulder So more neutral for irons and stronger for driver?

Hey! Some of this depends on your GRIP....if your right hand grip is turned STRONGER (clockwise) that would make sense that you would feel that......you may need to FEEL like you "hold it off" more through the ball Try this one: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/js93lctiuN-miI0.html&pp=ygUdRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIHJpZ2h0IGFybSB3aW5kb3c%3D

Oh for sure!! No way to ACTUALLY not increase but its just a FEEL to be aware of it and not OVERDO it is how I would look at it. No way to hit a ball and not increase........but REAL vs FEEL important here imo
