I love my PlanckEZ keyboard from ErgoDox. This is a 47-key ortholinear keyboard and is probably the most perfect keyboard ever made. And now that ErgoDox added the Training page, it just got more amazing. It ain’t cheap, but if you spend any time with a computer you should get one.

I got a Signum 3 instead. It's very similar to a Planck in terms of general layout but it's more ergonomic and it lets you adjust the height of the keys to the length of each individual finger. It's the only keyboard where I can reliably hit the "q" and "p" keys in the corners, and it's insanely comfortable.

Using a ridiculously tiny keyboard with an alternative layout and hiding everything in layers is a very creative way to avoid ever having to pair program again.

You can shave off a couple of millimeters in height by going with different keycaps: XDA canvas on drop is really good for the money and pimpmykeyboard has DSA keycaps. Either of those are PBT and dyesub, so the legends never wear off, but also aren't shine through. These keycaps are uniform in height and profile in case you want mix up the layout and have matching legends.

Thanks, Matt. You got my sub. I swear I faff too much with things like keyboard, but the problems are real. 40% keyboards just hit my radar. Dvorak since 2011. Need to consider alternate maps. Just went to XDA blank caps on my Anne Pro 2 Cherry Blue China clunker and it solved the QWERTY cognitive dissonance I was having. I see you aren’t breaking the bank to get Workman keycaps. :) Might be just me that feels a tension typing with one map and looking down at another.

@Matt Williams hi, really enjoying the content you’re producing, I saw your review on the Gli shadow Ar750s vpn router and you said you don’t recommend it for stationary usage. But I’m thinking of having it only in my bedroom (420cm x 370cm) so pretty small space, also maybe 1 meter away from my laptop and tv and 2,5m away from my bed, do it don’t need to have that big of a range. And it’s really small and stealth, which is good. And currently I have my laptop’s lan-cable plugged directly in the wall (without any secrecy, firewall, etc) so a secure way for my lan cable to my laptop. Do you still recommend it for my usages or something else? Thank you for your time reading this and keep up the great content, gonna subscribe ( and I have only 100 up and 100 down mbps)

@technovangelist

The big benefit of going with Dvorak is that it is a minimal change from QWERTY while improving things marginally. I figured as long as I am going through the pain I might as well make it mean something. By most tests out there workman is far more efficient than Dvorak if you are typing in English.

I don't think the Planck is a good keyboard. It is not split and has this weird space bar. I have a Redox Keyboard and an Atreus42 and I use the thumb of my left hand for shift. I also have multiple layers for special characters and even for cursor keys, tab, esc, enter and any other kind of control key. On my Atreus42 I don't even have dedicated cursor keys, del key...
