How to Unbrick the Galaxy S21 & Return to Stock Firmware

If something goes wrong and your Samsung Galaxy S21 series phone is in a bootloop then I can help fix the bootloop using the program called Odin. This will reset the whole smartphone and let you boot back into stock One UI Android.

Whether you have installed a root mod that is incompatible (or has a bug) with the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. . .or maybe you simply just installed an OTA update and had a bug break Android.
There are many things that can cause your smartphone to no longer boot into the Android OS. When the phone tries and fails, it will either continue to try (resulting in what is known as a boot loop within the community) or force you into either Download Mode or Recovery Mode.
If you're experiencing this, that means there's something wrong with the Android filesystem (missing files, corruption, a nasty bug, etc). I can't help save your personal data but I should be able to get your Galaxy S21+ working again.
We first try to simply perform a factory data reset while the phone is in Recovery Mode. If you're not automatically sent here then I show you how to manually boot the Galaxy S21 into Recovery Mode using the USB cable and the button combination as required.
This should solve the issue for most people but there are some instances where you may need to take things a step further. If things are really bad, we'll need to use Odin to manually flash the firmware images (similar to using fastboot tools).
We can do that by first booting the phone into Download Mode and then connecting it to the PC with a USB cable. When we open up the Odin program, that should automatically detect the phone.
If it doesn't, then you'll need to troubleshoot the USB-related issue you're experiencing.
But if it does, then we can continue by downloading the Samsung firmware we need (I use Frija right now, but some use SamFirm, others use SamMobile or Updato, etc.).
Once extracted, we can plug in 4 of these firmware files into Odin so it can flash them onto our smartphone. The process should only take a few minutes and will cause your device to reboot when it finishes.
If all things went smoothly, you'll see the Android activation screen after sitting at the boot logo for a few minutes. Be patient, the phone should no longer be stuck in a bootloop and will be fixed.

You're an amazing legend. Tried to install a custom ROM on my S20 FE 5G but all of them were BS. Managed to install a stock ROM using odin and after relocking my bootloader now i got my stock ROM back along with 95% of the features it has, including OTA updates and play certificate without magisk! the only issue though was the Knox related apps but I don't really use them anyways. Thank you so much for saving my phone, I do owe you everything

my phone was completely busted. I left it charge till it was in recovery mode than did the factory reset and it worked. im sobbing right now. You saved me from having to buy a whole new phone. thank you thank you thank you.

Amazing!!! Thank you so very much! Like the others before me, you saved me from having to buy a new phone. You helped where Samsung couldn't...or is it wouldn't. One additional step that I needed to do was to get a new SIM card as the phone would not re-activate with my carrier (Verizon). Not sure why. But 5 minutes in the Verizon store and all good. Thanks again. (May 30, 2023)

@@ExplainingAndroid I cannot believe this, but this has happened to me AGAIN!!! Same phone but several updates later. I am now stuck and unable to power off the phone or get into Recovery Mode. I am able to put it into Dowload mode but the Odin flash is failing with FAIL! (Auth) Added!! Odin engine v(ID:3.1401).. File analysis.. Total Binary size: 11420 M SetupConnection.. Initialzation.. Set PIT file.. DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!! Get PIT for mapping.. Firmware update start.. NAND Write Start!! SingleDownload. abl.elf xbl.elf FAIL! (Auth) Complete(Write) operation failed. Hi my boyfriends phone is in that blue screen right now. How do you decide which firmware to use? Does it matter? This is a bit out of my realm so I want to make sure I make the right decision. His phone restart randomly on its own for awhile now. He started the update this morn and the blue screen showed up. Unable to get out of it. Please help... Thanks

On my first attempt I received a FAIL SHA256 is invalid. What does this mean? It took a while to get my phone to turn back on. I thought it was dead.

Related but not exactly, i have an unlocked S21Ultra, i used odin to flash to the standard SAMSUNG Firmware in the UK. BTU' but the phone still displays 'Three mobile' Firmware (a Uk carrier)... has something changed with the Flash process that no longer allows for full Samsung Firmware Flash, i used the standard CSC file not the Home one... any thoughts related to this appreciated, even my local phone unlock company scratched his head at this one.

Hello I have one question and I would like to know if you can me. I have on my s21 ultra phone the latest firmware from verizon which is G998USQU5CVG9 and it want to flash the latest SM-G998U1 XAA firmware which is G998U1UES5CVF5. Is it safe? Great vid! This method is basically wiping the old system files and flashing new ones? Or does it just repair the previous instance? Will i still be able to recive updates after i do that?

correct. it's taking a freshly downloaded copy of the firmware and overwriting the partitions on the phone with the firmware this video wipes the data (not a repair), and you should still be able to receive OTA updates like normal join our daily Android discussions if you have more detailed questions kzfaq.info/love/nowc_KHgjVNj3Y-E-oQ8awjoin

So i had my latest update on my samsung s21+ ultra and after downlaonding and installing the update it restarted and then got me into downloading green screen and i tried the combination of power button and volume down but it keeps taking me to the green screen with download.Does anyone know how to deal with this ? it shows the screen on 7:56 but in the corner says "Odin mode (SVB Failed) Super: Build id does not match with the reference. I need help. Everything worked perfectly up until the install. Once Odin installs I get a message that says "ANDROID RECOVERY" under that it give three options. 1. TRY AGAIN, 2. FACTORY DATA RESET, 3. VIEW RECOVERY LOGS. I have tried 1 & 2 a couple of times only for it to go back into the message of FRP lock mode. Is there a way around this? Hello sir. I've already watched a few of your videos regarding flashing a Samsung but I've got 1 question I'm stuck with. The thing is I got myself an S20+ with the newest firmware and Android13. The person that gave me it said around half a year ago after an update happened 2 green lines appeared. I know this is now a pandemic on Samsung devices (and not only) where half of them get the green lines after software updates but both Samsung and experts claim it's a hardware defect (just that no one tries to explain it was caused by software). Most likely the LEDs or transistors got burned. I wanted to try reverting it to Android 11 or 12, but after looking through KZfaq I've noticed some people say you can't flash the newest Samsungs with a different binary version firmware. But if we look on firmware websites, most firmware has different binaries (like 2 versions of the same binary so you can only downgrade the latest one). Will it flash properly with different binaries or will it brick the phone? That's the question after such a long intro xD

you can try if you want to test it (it wont brick the phone). but you will get an error in Odin. saying something about a binary related problem

Hi, My S21 is stuck on pin unlock. Its the right pin but there is a bug that immediately locks the device. How can I get around this without a factory reset? Deleting Cache partition has done nothing, can bootloader help me?

possibly no. android has china restriction level, once something happens you're bound to be screwed. in a pc you could bypass a pass easy by hacking it in android, hacking it can mess up the device. happened to me once and had to factory reset

hey everything went off smoothly ,even it said pass on odin and then auto rebooted but its still stuck on bootlogo.Instead of just putting the firmware files to 4 different places I simply added the file to AP and the process went on smoothly but still I am facing this issue,plz help

Magisk developer advises against flashing just the AP file. It's actually a common culprit of slashing total capacity of phones (from say, 128GB to 32GB or something) I'm not sure why you would be getting that bootloop when flashing four files. It doesn't happen to me (as shown in the video) so I'm thinking there could be an issue with your download. Have you tried re-downloading a fresh copy of the firmware so you know you aren't having any corruption issues? let me know if this helps kzfaq.info/love/nowc_KHgjVNj3Y-E-oQ8awjoin

@@ExplainingAndroid yeah ,actually after looking all over the Internet I realised these firmwares are hard to get ,I even subscribed to sammobile but the speeds are awful and in case of frija just after a couple of minutes the speed drops to zero and yeah the firmware I flashed was just a .TAR file that I added to AP and the process went well but it seems it was a fake firmware that messed up my device.The good part is I have my twrp recovery installed ,I am now only waiting for a good source to download the firmware,do you know any?

hi i'm also having aproblem and i'm wondering if you could help.... my s21 opened downolad mode on itst own, and when i soft reset the device it bootlooped for a while before shutting down, the device right now is completely unresonsive and won't turn on even in safe mode or in boot mode, do you know how i could fix it?

hard brick - serious situation. most new phones are designed PURPOSELY to be useless once they get bricked. you must have balls of luck to get them back and even tech guys couldn't bring then to life. my s20 was bricked a month ago and they still havent fixed it, it's sad that samsung is making so fragile phones

@@XBGamerX20 hey man, thanks for the reply! Unfortunately my phone was a complete goner, because, as you said, it was a hard brick BUT i was able to get it replaced since it was still covered by warranty, so if you've had similar problems i'd suggest you try to get a replacement from samsung

@@yikes8707 ik. my phone had a troubling past sadly tho and the warranty was voided after attempts to root it and bricking problems were quite a phenomenon for me but this time the entire bootloader crashed. I'm possibly facing a hard brick as well but hopefully samsung fixes their newer phones, it's sad they're so epic and powerful but yet hard to to fix

My Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G was working very well with the Christmas decorations on there. I received a text message from a female hacker saying: I got your number and i hacked your phone. Few minutes later my phone started to act very strange than it got stuck on the boot loop. I went into the Android recovery mode to wipe out the partition than I get an error message at the bottom of the screen saying: [ libfs_mgr ]Error updating for slotselect. I select "Reboot system now" than my phone still were stuck on boot loop 😟 Can somebody please help me ? 😨 and is it because it was hacked ? 😨 I am crying 😰

no, following this tutorial will not relock the bootloader. it will just put the original firmware back on your phone

you may be able to, but it depends on how bad the bootloop is. using the home csc file is something I would try first in an attempt to save my data as well, so I do recommend you try it

My S21 Ultra is stuck in continuous boot loop until it dies. You can't stop it or reboot it. It gets to the 2nd Samsung screen then shuts down for 20sec then starts back up on its own over and over. Only thing I can do is get to the Download Mode Menu. My main concern is I didn't realize the my cloud was full and so have lost some precious photo/videos. Is there anyway I can recover these?

nope just tried for samsung s20. it got bricked and ended up deleting 1000+ files, which in turn left it bricked. delivered to tech shop, havent fixed it for a month now. it's sad that samsung is making fragile phones

@@XBGamerX20 yes it is! I feel that they should have recall the s20/s21 completely or replaced all the ones with issues free of charge. I did have extended warranty through Telus, but it cost me $450 deductible because my phone was over a year old (14months) 😢. They wouldn't even replace it with a s21 Ultra becuz of the amount of issues that phone had. They sent me a s22 Ultra instead. I was pretty upset I had to pay anything. The s22 is nothing special. The camera is awful compared to the s21.

@@cd6691 can confirm. the s21 is too worse than s20, like they have everything the same but no memory card slot. and the 1080p instead of 1440p in s20. only good for the s21 is that they have a plastic back and equipped with android 11, which is 2 things I hate in s20. still mine had a troubling past and the warranty was voided cause of failed rooting attempt and here we are, breaking for the 4th time. and this time it's possibly dead. I'd only be glad for samsung to fix their motherboard systems because we cant throw away $700 phones when their bootloader decides to die or wait weeks to get a new phone and samsung is perhaps among the few phones with the best ui. thing is, I'd have to go for samsung s21 probably because the s22 is the most messed up s series phones I've seen, tbh s21 looks far better than s20 in terms of external visuals/aesthetics

@@XBGamerX20 yeah no memory slot was awful! I wish I could have got a S21 replacement but they are not selling it in my area anymore becuz of the issues. I have 9 months left on my contract then I will be looking into a phone from a different company. It's disappointing what has happened to Samsung. My S6 still works great tho.

I have a samsung j5 and the amount of times I had switched to this cause the previous s models I had reached a great number. this j5 got bricked 2 times but fixed it in no time using stock rom, the s20 got bricked 4 times and required tech support in all of the cases. s20s were highly problematic, hopefully the s30 series brings a new generation in the future. it's sad that samsung is losing customers because their new phones are so powerful yet so fragile.

sounds like the OS is getting quite buggy. have you tried a factory data reset? or flashing a freshly downloaded copy of the firmware via Odin (the second suggestion wouldn't require erasing all of your data)

The only thing I've done to it was a factory reset, and it worked for a couple of days, and then it came back.

@@sulxanberize9361 probably more difficult. unless you bought it in China (maybe one or two other countries) then you can't unlock the bootloader through official methods XDA promotes a paid service, but it costs 100+ dollars and not something I can vouch for or recommend (since it isn't official and uses shady methods)

Better idea: dump Samsung and go to a different brand. It's stupid that they don't have you plug it into your computer and PICK the source content by looking up your IMEI number. Very bad way to do it. It bricked my phone and I got a message saying the phone HAS to receive the download. I tried to skip and it forced it anyway. The dumbest part? If weather interrupts the signal, you're screwed. Samsung is getting worse every time. And their S21 phones do not impress me, especially the menu layout, which makes it difficult to find certain settings.
