As a propane transport driver I thought I could be helpful to make a video on to unload a propane tanker. If you have any questions please leave them in the comments. Facebook / buffalo.nick.77

Thanks for sharing your expertise on your work. Your detailed explanations clarified aspects of a subject I knew very little about. I was taken by how much more there is to your job than just hooking up a hose and letting it flow! Be careful out there! Be safe! Thanks! Bob

Any video like this gives the inexperienced the idea of what is the 'Right Way'. 35 Years of Hazmat has taught me 1) PPE first for propane is ear protection, FR clothes, insulated gloves, Hard hat and safety glasses. 2) Chock blocks 3)Connect the ground cable to the unit. 4) NEVER drop the hoses on the ground - those 2" hoses are super easy to handle. Pull them out with 1 hand and catch the loose end with the other hand. Opening belly valve slowly to equalize the pressure and all other valves get opened very gradually. A quick motion on a valve handle can 'slam' the safety valve shut. Overall the video gave us a glimpse of how it is done. Hauled fuel for years and then Propane. Loved Propane - clean dry and doesn't stink like fuel. Empty tanks in the winter give great traction too. Canadian regs are enforced more than the U.S obviously. Doing an unload like that up here would earn you a trip out the gate.
@j.a.77216 ай бұрын
US gets enforced also. It all depends on the plant manager. But ppe is important. Obviously common sense is more. I had a guy at my plant that got burned, how I don't know and he had a face shield. But it got him in the neck

Just a word of advice from someone seasoned in LPG hook up your vapor and liquid on trailer first from the hose tube just a few turns on then connect on the risers keeps your fittings CLEAN and keeps from oblonging your vapor or liquid
@DominicHallBuffaloNick3 жыл бұрын
The reason behind the video is to allow drivers that don’t get but 1 day of training to have something to go back to. I have seen lots of companies just let drivers figure it out on there own
@user-iq1dm5eq5y5 жыл бұрын
Lmao! I have to do the same thing with that gate valve.
@charlesroberts88035 жыл бұрын
Seems like you should have to ground the trailer, and yes I understand there is metal in the hose that grounds it but a separate ground before you hook up. I don't think I would let the end of the hose fall to the ground when removing it from the truck so it does not get damaged.
@DominicHallBuffaloNick5 жыл бұрын
Charles Roberts they don’t have a ground cable, well there’s 1 there but it’s not hooked to anything. I get what you mean about the hose, I don’t do that anymore I had it fall right on the vapor hose and flatten the end lol. Some of the places I used to go to are not maintained well. I will possibly redo this video, but still a decent basis for someone to get the concept. Thanks for watching.
@charlesroberts88035 жыл бұрын
I used to haul ethanhol and Im going for a job interview to haul propane in a couple of days so that's why I watched your video. I damaged a hose fitting about 15 years ago dropping it and it was slightly egg shaped and I fought it so ever since then I let the hose drop on top of my boot.
@DominicHallBuffaloNick5 жыл бұрын
Good luck with the job. I have scheduled 40 tile pipe around my hose now so when it shakes on the ground I don’t get a hole in it. I have never hauled ethanol, it must be closed to the same. Propane to me is like a semi retirement job lol.
@DominicHallBuffaloNick5 жыл бұрын
Don’t know who your going to but crestwood is starting at 85000 a year just saying
@charlesroberts88035 жыл бұрын
Ethahol is the same as Gasoline.Same trailers, same Sculley but less hassle because your unloading at the fuel terminal not loading and waiting for the price to change. No dispatchers on the phone telling you to go ahead and unload at the gas station when you know it wont fit. No snowplows plowing off the lids. Easy money and loads with an arm same as petro.

@davidwatts58632 жыл бұрын
I see tank was empty. You don't have to cool tank down before unloading? I delivery liquid nitrogen and with a empty tank is considered a first fill. It's a long process of cooling down tank before pumping liquid in because tank can explode.

Sickening that he is not wearing PPE and there is no one to supervise the off load in case he has a medical emergency. No ground wire means no off loading. They should also be reported for having a rust spot on the tank. Whoever owns the transportation company is going to be looking at a multi-million dollar negligence suit for not properly training, testing and checking their driver's safety knowledge. The customer should be audited for the safety of their facilities. They need to have that grounding system checked annually by a certified technician. The static charge caused by the fuel flowing through the hose and pipes needs to be dissipated through a discharge wire that is connected before the product transfer begins.
