Young Man! You are a Godsend...I spent two days trying to figure this out with my MacBook Air and with zero luck. In short, I finally discovered you on U-Tube and you got us going with our C-8. Thank you so so much...I was having a "Mac Attack" and to be honest considering Celestron and this antiquated serial nonsense....my Celestron bubble burst lol. Thanks so much for making this video! My starsense HC was bricked right out of the box and I was having trouble updating the firmware using my Mac. You helped greatly! I downloaded Java and was able to run the CFM on my Macbook Pro, but the telescope was not showing up. I looked for the PL-2303 driver and, sure enough, they make a mac version. After downloading and installing the driver (I'm using MacOS 12.6.1), CFM was able to see my mount, starsense camera, and starsense HC. HC working great now. Thanks again !!

Hey - thanks for the video. First of all, I am all smiles: to see young people be such experts already is really nice to see. Good luck with your hobby, you've got the stuff! :-) And then I have some info: I just did this firmware update on a Win10 Pro computer and did not need that funky PI2303 USB driver thingy... On my laptop's device manager I could see a device showing up in the Serial Port section. Seems like my Win10 already has the necessary USB-to-Serial driver. As for the telescope: I have a CGX mount and once I had the mini USB cable connected to my laptop the hand controller already came to live and showed some sort of message hinting that it would be in update mode... I started the CFM Java app and after a few moments it found 1 Unit: the hand controller. But I also wanted to update the firmware of my CGX mount and the motor controllers. For that I also had to turn on the mount itself. I did that, then klicked on the "SEEK" button in CFM. It searched again and now found 4 units as expected. Firmware update went super smooth. Clear skies!

Great tutorial! I just got a new controller for my CPC1100 and having trouble trying to open the CFM file on my Mac. I’ve pretty much given up and just thinking about turning off the GPS and entering the time, date, and location every time I power up the scope. There’s gotta be an easier way than going through all this crap for a simple update. There must be thousands of other users having the same dilemma. I live near Torrance, Ca so I might just go there directly and have them update my new controller.

Thanks for the video. Nicely made. My Celestron Nexstar 127 Maksutov was purchased in 2014. The hand controller does not have a USB port. It is the port which looks like a telephone connector - with four pins. Is the process the same. Are the softwares the same? Thank you.

we used the pl2303 software to bypass the serial adapter step, but the pl2303 software said "no PL2303 chip found" and the cfm software was also unable to find the telescope. So where do we go from here??

I have just purchased the nexstar 4se and when i try to set up the handset it says ' boot start ' and i can't go any further anybody know what this is and how to fix it ?

So just curious. I just got my celestron nexstar 8se last week. Would it still need to be updated? If so, what is the benefit? More objects programmed in? Bug fixes? What’s the benefit of the newest version? Just want to know if it’s worth the trouble.

Hey, what cables do I need to connect my telescope (Celestron Nexstar 4se) to my computer ???

What version of windows or is you using? Windows 10 did not need any usb driver. No issues using the update manager and picked up all i had connected no problems. Was easy, not hard at all or any trial or error or a usb driver to find a usb port. Windows 10 does everything automatically. And the lastest update manager tells you step by step what to do and tells you to hold down both those buttons

So i get to the update part it starts to update then pauses at 20% and fails anyone have this fix?

Appreciate the effort you put in making something up to help folks, but.... I can't watch... for two reasons. Background music is extremely annoying. Not necessary and adds nothing of value to your presentation. If I want background music I'll play my own, I'm not interested in your musical tastes. Not quite as bad as when someone at a stargaze decides their taste in music is so superlative that everyone should get to hear it, but distracting just the same. For 'tutorial' presentations I prefer it when people just get straight to the point without a background story of their trials and tribulations - again, it adds nothing of value... obviously people come here because they've had their OWN trials and tribulations. Don't mean to sound harsh but life is short and I prefer to be blunt.
