Great video Ray! I'd recommend to others having the mount connected and powered up prior to launching CFM. Sometimes it doesn't seem to want to detect everything if the software is already running when the mount is connected. I had that issue on my CGX and it didn't update my switches which then caused an RA switch fail error when I power cycled the mount. Thankfully going through the update process again with all devices detected solved the issue, but I was in panic mode for a minute there with a brand new mount.

Thanks Daily Space Observations! I am glad. There were bunch of updates in the recent past and I believe no one pays attention to updating because Celestron doesn't push the updates.

Also don’t forget updating your firmware in the hand controller might change things like site and location, other preference settings like slew limits or favor east favor west for goto. Also ‘goto calibration’ that it does to ‘weigh’ your equipment and factor that in your slew accuracy. I don’t think it alters pec recordings because I think those are stored in the motors. That would only get changed if updating motor firmware. But if anything starts acting weird in the future, you might check which data gets nuked when you update a firmware. Sometimes I forgot that and it reset my ‘site’ to Torrance California.

Dear Ray, I got a terrible problem with my new AVX mount the first time I launched it! I work with CPWI software and the first thing that happened was it couldn’t connect to CPWI through the usb port in the hand controller. I could connect with the Wi-Fi module though, and was apparently ok initially slewing to alignments stars, but when I put back the mount in the index position for a quick alignment, it didn’t stay there and was slowly moving in RA axis(clutches were not loose and mount balanced properly). After repeated attempts I thought to update with the FWM. The firmware manager recognized the mount and the hand controller and updated the hand controller successfully and said it failed to update the mount because the memory on the device is corrupt! Now the mount is not even recognized by the hand controller. I will be most grateful if you could tell me how to fix it. This is a new mount and the first time use. I have experience in using a CGX mount for the past 2 years.

That's sad. Can you try connecting through CPWI ? If it doesn't work, Also check and see if you can reset the firmware on HC if it connects

Hmmm. Source of initial error I couldn't figure out, but it sounds like one thing that people have to adjust to these days is always checking on the site for the latest version rather than using previous downloads or downloads off site. It works better more often than not - printers, wifi cards... telescope equipment.. I think celestron could streamline the software management experiences quite a bit, (why can't a service on pc tell you an update is available and do the update?). I remember it took me a while to find CFM and get it working for the nexstar+ I started with... The software on the nexstar+ was bad... couldn't do a manual alignment because it came with a starsense autoaligner and the HC 's firmware only let me use that. Except the sky quality in bortel class 8-9 made it such that I could practically never get aligned despite having several easily targets to align to. Here's hoping celestron gets better at software.

Thanks James! I agree with you on the software update. I like push updates as well. That way there is no need to keep checking. The remaining issues of alignment can be resolved with various software like SGP or plate solve. Let me know if you have any specific alignment issues that I could help you. dosent work on my celestron 9.25 telescope and AVX Mount got installed in a windows10 computer and also in a MAC Mini computer and neither one the software will run thanks for the video just wish i could of updated my telescopes

Rachel, did you try upgrading the firmware? Go to Celestron support page and download latest firmware for the AVX mount and handset software.celestron.com/public_release/CFM.zip?_ga=2.177254368.412034300.1587552872-2019494572.1583980292

@@OLD-AND-UGLEE I had to right click on the exe last night and set compatibility to windows 8 before it would open. When it did it was no use to me as I have the old Nexstar handset and it cannot be set to data download mode. I tried holding down info and undo but with no look.
