How to update VMware ESXi 7.0 to 7.0 U1 using the command line

In this how-to video, I will demonstrate the process of updating an ESXi 7.0 host to 7.0 update 1. The process will be the same for any other updates/patches.

Table of commands used in the video:
List profiles in downloaded ZIP file: esxcli software sources profile list -d /vmfs/volumes/PCIe-SSD/VMware-ESXi-7.0U1-16850804-depot.zip
Perform dry-run update: esxcli software profile update -p ESXi-7.0.1-16850804-standard -d /vmfs/volumes/PCIe-SSD/VMware-ESXi-7.0U1-16850804-depot.zip --dry-run
Put host in maintenance mode: esxcli system maintenanceMode set -enable true
Install update: esxcli software profile update -p ESXi-7.0.1-16850804-standard -d /vmfs/volumes/PCIe-SSD/VMware-ESXi-7.0U1-16850804-depot.zip
Reboot server: reboot

This was exactly what I needed! I really appreciated going through each command one by one instead of just giving the whole command without any reason why we picked certain options.

really good video - Updated my ESXi host just fine. Maybe I should mention - ESXi won't be able to show the profile list if you have your Offline Bundle (.zip) directly in your datastore, you need to make a new folder and put it there, after I did that it showed the profile just like in your video and I could proceed with the update :)
