Alright, so after a long day I managed to get this to work. Had to initialize and format the new hard drive to use it for backup. Once backup was done, I stored it on my pc and formated the new drive back to how it was just to be sure, not sure if this was needed. After installing the new hard drive and software, I did the same thing you did with the old hard drive, so I can restore my data to a new drive. This whole process took a long time, but it was definitely faster than downloading all the games back, atleast in my situation as I don't have good download speed. Thank you for the video man, if it wasn't for your guide I would get stuck.

+Rambo Ryan yep and I just decided to format the whole thing to fat 32 yet when I move files from system management to hardrice after 4 applications save of 35.5mb it says it's full, I think there is sort of a 1gb cap for some reason... now I have no way of installing a 1tb hard drive or formatting ps4 hardrice without losing all of my data ???!

You say you have formatted it, so presumably Windows could see it for you to be able to format it? It should show up as your D: drive or higher. Assuming you are using a Windows computer, did you follow all the instructions at 24:05 first? You have to right-click and delete each and every partition that the ps4 made on the drive, as these partitions are unusable by Windows. There will be several. Make sure you're looking at the correct disk and DON'T TOUCH YOUR DISK 0 (which contains your C: partition) or your computer's drive will be wiped! When the disk contains just one big partition, right click the disk, choose "Create Simple Volume", assign whichever new letter you want to give it from the ones available if you want to. Windows will then format the volume and the drive should then be recognisable by Windows as an empty disk with the letter you assigned to it. If it has been formatted using NTFS file system it will only work on your computer. If it has been formatted using FAT it will be compatible with more devices, but your files will be restricted to under 4GB in size each. Are you plugging it into a suitable USB port that is supplying sufficient power? Most external drives need a USB 3 port, although some are USB 2 backwards-compatible. Other than that, I can't think of where you may be going wrong.

Spikehunter5545 Yes as long as it's 2.5" I believe. I used the same brand and everything that the PS4 organically uses but 1tb with 7200rpm instead.

i tried now and sadly it's said you must formate it :( and i think there is no way to back my save data and games i was very close to hards platinums :(((

Never mind. Google helped me. Needed to be in a folder stem PS4 > UPDATE > PS4UPDATE.PUP

TheOfficialStooge the playstation launched correctly with the new drive? I'm sure you are in Safe Mode, try to use the other USB port, or check the formatting of the drive in the PS4 and of the flash.

I went to a place in nyc called J & L gaming and they did it. Otherwise I just couldn't really do it. Sorry I can't tell you anything more.

prmypride yes, you have to install the system software onto the new harddrive, doesn't matter how new the ps4 is, if you change the harddrive, you have to download the software onto it

Mark F i understand what you are saying, but i am not sure. I know that 4.5 adds support for external harddrives, but i dont know exactly what it does. I would google or go to playstation and ask that question. It would surprise me if you couldn't do that.

I think, you should just be able to back up the system memory onto an external drive. Just like i uploaded it to the cloud, but with a physical drive. Then do the change, and reinstall the software and when you restore the ps4, use the data on the external drive
