How to Upgrade to Windows 10 for Free

4 жыл бұрынUpgrade from Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 to Windows 10 entirely for free and using the official Microsoft web site.
Web site where you can upgrade to Windows 10:

Microsoft is no longer supporting Windows 7. If you're still running Windows 7, you're at risk of attacks and viruses since there are no longer any updates or patches. Windows 8 and 8.1 are both still supported; however, since the upgrade is free, you might as well get onto the latest and greatest version of Windows.
On the web site under the Create Windows 10 installation media, click on Download tool now. This will download an exe to your computer. Click on this file. When finished, open the download and accept the license terms
Choose: 'Upgrade this PC now' then click ‘Next’
Choose ‘Keep personal files and apps’
Once installed, open: Settings - Windows Update - Activation to activate your Windows 10 digital license...
OR enter your (genuine) Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 product key if you haven’t previously activated your old version of Windows
If you’d like to check your license has successfully been activated afterwards, open: Settings - Update & Security - Activation.
Note: a Windows 10 license is tied to your hardware. As such, if you need to format your computer for any reason Windows 10 will reactivate automatically.

05/16/2020 Upgraded Windows 8.1 to 10. Really easy to install. Didn't lose any files or apps. Took like an hour or so to do its thing. Thank you!

July/2020 worked perfectly. Upgraded from Windows 7. No harm to any data. Resolution has changed, but apart from that everything is good. Many thanks Kevin.

Upgraded Safely (9/13/2020) No files lost. Only took 2hrs, 1hr for the download and 1hr for the installation. Old Intel I3 PC by the way. Thanks!

Here it is January 15, 2021 and I just upgraded my six year old PC that has been running on win 8.1 to win 10. The process took about four hours to complete but when it restarted after the install, everything looked the same as it did before I started the upgrade. All of my shortcut icons were in the same place on my customized desktop, and the background picture was even the same. Thank you Kevin for this, it was totally seamless.

Great short video for an easy task. Worked like a charm after an hour of installation and reboots due to many apps and files. It is so pretty that I can't believe that I waited this long to let go of W7. Interesting to see so many others like me who either did not want to spend extra money or just wasn't ready to let go of their work station when you really did not have to. Thanks.

@@paulpassworth3322 I had a licensed Office 2010 with my W7, and I was willing to risk the function of it with the upgrade b/c it was time to move on. Fortunately, all Office applications continues operable to this day. Sure you will have to see the message that you are using an old version of Office; and that a file extension is being converted when you create or work with files from an updated office program. But you will always be able to work with your original files from W7 or the prior version of office. After the W10 upgrade, watch a couple of more videos to clean up some settings. PC is still running decently with good hard disk space after 10 years. Just could not spend the money on a new set during the height of a pandemic. But in the near future, I will splurge on a MAC. 😉

Dudeee, it works! Upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 as of 02.05.2021. No files lost and it was very easy. Couldn't even believe I actually upgraded my pc to Windows 10 but it took me around 8 hours in total. Patience is the key. Thank you very much!

I can't believe it worked ! I was trying to do it based on a Google search but it was none of them were working and I wanted to installed their software and this that and the other and I said no no but then I thought that someone on KZfaq must know how. I looked at a couple of videos and I couldn't figure out what the heck they were doing a couple of them came with no talking. You did really well. In June 2018, I was able to get Windows 10 Pro for free on a brand new PC I had built without ever having owned Windows 7 or 8.1. I was still using Windows XP on an old PC! There's still an option on that webpage that lets you create a media creation tool if you have XP or Vista and I simply put it on a flash drive and my new PC automatically booted to it. You just have to deal with a watermark in the bottom right corner of your screen that asks you to activate Windows, but it isn't that noticeable.

But it did not worked for me. I had a pirated windows 10 pro but I wanted Enterprise version because I heard that enterprise version have more features than 10 pro and I also wanted to active my windows. So I activated it with a KMS activator. Then when I checked my version it was already Enterprise version! But when I updated it from 1904 to 1909 it worked but when I tried to download 2004 it didn't worked and also 2009. Then I tried several things but did not worked. This process told me 'This Version or Language does not supported'. If you know any method please help me. 🙏

Had to come back and thank you. I am a computer dope, and this worked perfectly. Only had one issue that it promoted me to uninstall something that needed a password, which luckily I had. This worked like a charm, and I really appreciate it !

I installed Windows 10 on my laptop with your video about a week ago and worked great. And I left a good comment, well deserved. But today I've encountered a problem and after complete failure to get back into my computer I remember that you knew how to do a lot of things so hopefully you can help me. Today I want to turn on my laptop to a gray screen. I've done everything that's told me to do turn on off three times take out the battery and finally resetting the computer. it started reinstalling Windows after the reset got me to about 19% I think back to the gray screen again came back on again saying preparing went to the gray screen again. Twice I heard the welcome Melody but only the gray screen I figure you have to know more than what I'm reading on the internet there's got to be something I can do to get back into my computer. If you can help me I'd be really grateful.

I highly recommend that anyone doing an upgrade also does a full system-backup of their previous OS. It shouldn't be an issue but, things can & will go wrong given the opportunity lol.

Thanks: I had windows 7. Once I downloaded it, I had to choose downloads in my computer then choose run as administrator to get things started.

@@NotLegitTTV Because I am not a tech, I would try again and be even more careful to watch the progress in case I need to respond to any messages. It took about 2 hours to download Windows 10. Then, probably another 2 hours to download the updates. I'm not sure about the time the updates took, since I went to bed and let my computer take care of the updates without me.

@@dimitris2831 it didn't ask me for a product key. My former Windows 8 was already activated, so it kinda just upgraded it to 10 and it was already activated. I don't know if this is related. I am not very good at this kind of computer "advanced" stuff, but I just know it worked ok durn the first second and didn't ask for anything. The video comments also mention something about how to activate it. Did you do that?

lkbart you should put the photos on a usb so if your files get deleted somehow or you get a new pc you’ll still have them.

in a worst case scenario, move all of them to an external drive. But i dont think it would remove them either way. Good Luck!

Hi, I just do the procedure and everything is good till last step : start install window 10. During install window 10, come out error and undo everything back to original window 7 Home. "The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during REPLICATE_OC operation". Can someone help on me. Thanks, Alex

@@veronicaquezada6282 if you're having the "0x80072F8F" problem then download "windows 10 assistant" to your computer, then click "start upgrade" button it will take while but don't worry your computer is safe. When upgrade is finished, BOOM say hi to your new good looking windows 10 with sum great features.

For some reason it won't allow me to click on the box where I can keep all my files and apps. I can only click on the box where I only can keep my files or the one where I don't save anything. Really annoying, now I can't keep my apps if I upgrade to windows 10.

I'm having an issue with this. I can run through the media creation tool, but when the download and verification hands off to the 'Windows 10 setup is starting' page, it crashes without error report. I've tried running in administrator, running it in safemode, removing all but the drives with my installation on, no dice. Same result every time.
