Great, very useful and precise guide. I got this board since I bought the AMD X3d chip I followed this and all went well many thanks Mike. The main I got this board as x670 has bigger bios problems and pointless with the high prices also issues with Gen 5 controller and heat issues but needed something for the new AMD X3d which looked please and was robust and reliable and MSI are known for quality. Only issue with this board is if you get a NVME with a preinstalled none removable heatsink it will not be possible to place under the MSI M.2 Shield Frozr heatsink. But great board for now until next gen cpus which should iron out the issues with x670 then hopefully will upgrade again as news looks promising.

I've has a number of motherboards with flashback buttons but never had to use them as I've always been able to flash from the bios itself. Still, nice to know and thanks for the video.

Thanks for the video. To hopefully save someone else the time I wasted I was having issues flashing my bios. The white LED by the button would flash for 5 sec and then turn off. On my board the EZ debug LEDs (red and orange lights) were not lighting up at all even though only the PSU was connected to the motherboard. I had tried reseating the connectors with no change and eventually swapped out the PSU for my older one. Once this was done the bios flashed on the first try with the red and orange lights both lighting up.

One odd issue I had when replacing/upgrading my PC was the system wouldn't post unless it was mounted in the case. I tried the box method the motherboard came in as a built platform, but, the system wouldn't do anything. Having a beginner knowledge of electronics: I figured there was a screw post that possibly served as a very miniscule ground. Sure enough: placing the motherboard in the case and partially screwing it in place did the trick. A told a friend of mine about this as I am one of those PC superstition build folks about not putting everything inside the case at once and she said her brand new Steel Legend mobo did the exact same thing. No post outside the case; but, post fine inside the case. In my situation; I didn't have a APU installed: so a dedicated GPU was required for display. Not sure if there were errors on the very first post or not. Regardless, the system has been running excellent since the repair/upgrade was completed.

thanks and welcome, click bios 5 is basically a tool to update the bios when you have access to the bios (working system) you download the bios on to a USB and the system reads it and flashes the bios, with a user interface and a GUI display not sure sure if the motherboard uses legacy, i would think it can have CSM but not sure why you would need it with a modern system

Hello thank you for the video. I just got this board. I havent built a computer since 2007 😅. So this was helpful. Two questions. The current bios version is a beta version. I did some research and saw multiple people say that last few versions are unstable. I ended up using .15 instead of current one. Do you think that will be ok? 7900x3d for reference. Second question. When testing board with ram and cpu , do I need to put paste or cooler on the cpu ? Probably not a good question but just checking.

you can use the beta, these days they are released pretty quick and become full releases quickly after, but the second newest is always a pretty safe bet. i would say you shoudl use thermal compound and a cooler at any time the PC is on, it isn't worth risking premature failure. but there are safety cut outs on the board to prevent damage, assuming the board logic works?

Hey sorry to continue this conversation but I wanted to ask your opinion. I still have time to switch this motherboard out. There is nothing wrong with it but did you say you stuck with the b650 edge? Is there another one that you would recommend if I was going to get something else? I just want to be future proof as possible. I could spend more if the options were really worth it.

Hi mike, thanks for the video; I have the same MOBO and i'm trying exactly as you are saying.. When i hold the flash usb button for 3 seconds, the white led starts to flash, the computer turns on, but the color led on the mobo heatsink dont kick in. The white led keeps flashing for 5 minutes and then it resets. Looks like i cant make it recognize the pendrive. Any toughts?

Check which version you are on already and cross reference it on the compatibility page it might be new enough already. Having said that I would regularly update it anyway for performance and reliability fixes

Thanks, I wanted to BIOS flash my board (MSI B650P) BEFORE putting my new 450 dollar Ryzen 7800X3D in it to cook. I'm glad to know all I need is the PSU connected to do it. Hope it's the same port on each MSI B650 board!

@@mikesunboxing I just got my B650-P and I managed to confirm: The I/O cover panel does have the Flashback Port labled. It's also the same port as the model you used, the B650 Edge. Top-Left red USB port. I've only had one bad experience with MSI ever, and it was a used laptop so not really their fault.

Hi Mike, Just waitched this and the other videos you have on this. I recently bought a second hand Z690 Edge DDR4 Wifi and want to run a I9-13900KF with it. I'm at a loss, using 3 different USB's to try and flash the MB. The red light flashes starts reading the usb then does 5 slower flashes and shuts off. I've just ordered the Sandisk drive you've recommended, but failing this I'm not sure what is the problem. Would even be willing to send you the board at this point to have a go before I bin it and buy a Z790!

make sure the BIOS is the DDR4 bios not the DDR5 version and the usb drive is MBR not GPT

@@mikesunboxing Hi again, Yeah 100% using the right Bios 7D31v19 and newer v1A. Formatted via Windows diskpact, and Rufus to MBR with FAT32. I've now tried 4 different USB drives and still no luck. I'm genuinely at a loss now as to what I can do to try and get this to work. Will try that new drive this weekend, but failing that. Will have to call it a dead board and buy a z790 to save me from running into this problem again. Sad when I've bought DDR4 memory already so will need to pay the 790 higher prices for the same performance. If you are willing to give it a go for video content I'll happily do so and cover shipping both ways. Fully accept it's possibly dead so I'm really at my end point with it.

no it will only be a short while, you can rest the cooler on top the cpu if you want, just be careful

Hello Mike, an update on my comp 7800x3d, msi b650 edge in a Lian Li Lancool 216. I just got a GRE Steel Legend to make it complete. I was gonna put it vertically until I found the prices of the ribbon cables! Why are the so expensive? Do you know of anything that is cheaper and recommended? Long shot I know but thanx anyway

Hey Mike, first, sorry this is a long post. I've been at this for a week. I bought the MSI B650 edge wifi as a warehouse deal on amazon and have been attempting to flash the bios update to no success. I have tried nearly a dozen flash drives, some have the white light on with a flash off then back on indefinitely, for a couple the white light flashes for less than 30 seconds, and a couple others the light will flash rhythmically indefinitely. However, for all of the above the rgb for the MB and the debug lights do not come on. Did the previous person to have this possibly brick the motherboard or is it just down to using the right usb? And yes, i have followed your instructions on converting to mbr/partitioning larger drives/formatting to fat 32/using the windows extractor to extract from the zip... Hope you can help or tell me to send the board back for a refund/exchange. Thank you for your time.

get a sandisk 32gb flair that is about the only drive i have ever known to work on everything, it could also be a bricked board if it is on the warehouse deals

followed the exact steps for the msi b650I Edge wifi all the way to when you gotta hold the flash button for 3 seconds. No response. No LED flashing from neither the USB drive or the motherboard.

I commented on a previous video. But I think the question is more ideal here. Here is the question I'm having: I bought: MSI MPG B650 EDGE WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor I got this warning: Warning: The MSI MPG B650 EDGE WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard supports the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor with BIOS version 7E10v13. If the motherboard is using an older BIOS version, updating the BIOS will be necessary to support the CPU." should I flash the bios before using the 7800x3d or should it work out of the gate?

no idea really, you can look for a manufacturing date on the motherboard box, and cross reference that to the bios dates. otherwise just flash the newest bios anyway to be sure

I have the ITX version...ie MSI MPG B650i Edge WiFi. Just tried this method, but with everything already installed inside case. However, several things happen. 1. PC did turn on cos the lights on the RGB RAM lights up and remains so till now. 2. There is no white LED lights flashing inside the mobo, just behind the flash bios button. 3. Its now more than 10 mins and nothing is happening, RAM lights still on. 4. The EZ Debug LEDs never turn on. Any clues? I'm getting fed up now, wasting my time. Looking at you MSI. Thanks.

@@mikesunboxing Further to my original post, I have since noticed something when I thought my BIOS was corrupted. Yesterday, I was fed-up with all this, ie the RAM lights came on, but not booting the PC. Shut down my PC, unplugged power cable, pressed the CMOS button for about 20 secs. 8 hours later, re-plugged power cable and now it powered up, with the EZ Debug LED lighting up and then eventually going off. However, the BIOS screen never appears. When I restarted and pressed the DEL key, it hung on the black screen, even though every lights (RAM/Cooler) and fans was on. Shut down the power at its source, unplugged power cabler, CMOS button AGAIN, waited several minutes, tried to power up again, stuck at RAM lights on again. Somehow, when I tried it again, it turns on and I'm now typing this reply. Thus is taking too much time, when I could be "productive". I assume you mean to remove the RAM and then try the method again? Will try this after my temper cools down! Is MSI taking its customers for fools? Imagine me paying to be a beta-tester

hola, en esta misma placa madre sólo me funciona un slot de ram de 16 gb , lo conecto en los demás y se prende el foco rojo del cpu y ram en naranja ayuda

sounds like the cpu either has a dead memory channel or the cpu pins are not touching the pads. could be a motherboard fault, but it will need testing either way

Hey, so my BIOS Flash light just flashes like 3 seconds after pressing the button and stays on afterwards. CPU light is still red

Fixed this Yesterday too, BIOS Update seemed to be done right Like in the Video, CPU light ist still Red. Already did a CMOS flash... Will try with another MB

@mikesunboxing it works, but I need display port to game at high frames. Here is my situation so far. Pc won't display when I turn it on with the display port plug-in. Only hdmi, but when the display port decides to work randomly, I can game all day with no issues while using the display port. I can even restart the pc, and it display FINE, but if I turn the pc off and them try to power it back on. It doesn't display.
