Do you know how to use a bidet? Are you curious? I was, and after three months I finally gave in and tried it. Now I love a bidet and can't wait to have one installed! A must have!

This is how we usually carry out the "whole process" here in Lombardy: you go "number two", then you use toilet paper to wipe, then you use a bidet to wash your rear (and front, if you want) with water and mild soap. In the end, you use your butt towel to rinse. The towel doesn't get dirty at all since you are most definitely clean at that point. You have a bidet in your house's restroom and you often can find one in your hotel room's restroom. You won't find any bidet in public restrooms. You don't use a bidet when you are in someone else's house, bc you wouldn't have a butt towel at your disposal, unless your host gives you one but that would usually happen if you are staying there for a few days, at least. I Hope this clears a few doubts some people had in these comments 😉

Excellent response! Thanks for clarifying for those of us who are ignorant in such matters. If the household has several family members, does everyone have their own towel, or is one towel used, like a hand towel?

@@WhileAwayWithUs Usually everyone has its own "bidet towel". In Italy, since 1975, is mandatory to have at least 1 bidet in one of the restrooms of the house. The standalone bidet can also used for warm baths can help soothe the irritation from hemorrhoids or other problems.

Thanks for your comment and watching the video. When we arrived in Europe, we had no idea how to use one. We never wanted to ask anyone, lest they think us backwards. LOL. The use of the bidet for a place to shave legs, came from necessity. Our shower stalls were too small to bend over to do it. So I improvised and used the bidet! :)

In the U.S. here, after watching this video, with your good explanation, I bought the type that attaches to my toilet. It was simple to install. Cold water only but I think it will be ok even in the winter. But what I did for a towel is I bought a pack of 18 wash clothes and I use those for drying my behind. The water does such a good job that the towel is just for drying off. I toss the towel, that is the wash cloth, in a small basket beside the toilet and use a new one each time. Wash them all at one time. I don't have room for a free standing one like in the video. Wish a did. But the one I have seems to be fine. I've been using it about 6 weeks.

I love your clear explanation and humour which is helpful especially for those that might be unfamiliar and therefore tentative about trying out European habits. Thank you for your kindly and informative bidet video. I'm used to using a lota and separate butt washcloths as towels. I've a very personal question but now is the perfect time to ask it. I'm in my 70s and mobility issues are mounting, along with a couple scary falls. I have nobody to help me shower and I am strongly considering the use of a bidet. I'm looking for lessons ahead of time in choosing the style and my trailer won't accommodate anything other than the integrated system... which kind is your mother's use? In addition bless you for caring for her..I know that it's far from an easy "job" once we age. I've been resisting the nursing home with a passion!

Great job of explaining the bidet, very brave also. We have fitted a spray bidet fitting to use while on the toilet. We did it as an insurance against the toilet paper shortage bought on by Covid-19. It is better to do it before it is needed as they may be in short supply when the time comes to NEEDING IT. I think it is a far better method than having to resort to rags, buckets and smells when we can't buy toilet paper. Far more hygienic for us, especially women. Where we live TP has been unavailable since our basic lockdown laws came into force. Like you, I like using it for both cleanliness as well medically reasons. Living in the tropics, we only have it installed to cold water. I think if we had four seasons, we would install a deluxe toilet seat bidet.

As some one who comes from a country where we don't mince words it's adorable to see people from other countries talking around specific words :D Like private parts or behinds xD I would just say "wash your vulva", or "wash between your butt cheeks" :D It's so cute :D But you know what they say "Different countries, different customs" :) I appreaciate that you actually show the people how to properly sit on a bidet and also show some other uses which you can use a bidet for! :) My parents got themselves a bidet after they were in Mallorca for vacation and when my sister and me where little we just used it as a normal sink to wash our hands (because of the nice low size) and when we had cystitis my mom would use the bidet to make us a camomille infused sitz-bath/ hip-bath and this really helped! A bidet is just great and I really wish more people would know about it and use it because the prejudice that it's "gross" or "unclean" to wash yourself with a bidet (which is actually the opposite from what it is) is still out there a lot :(

Americans are taught not to talk about our private intimate areas in that manner because it is considered sexual or crude and youtube doesn't like that kind of language(demonetized if you do). So that's why we talk in circles about it. In America it is not proper or polite to refer to your private area that way, especially around family or strangers. With friends, it depends on your relationship and how comfortable you are with each other.

I would never be without my bidet , always have had one in the uk and now here in Portugal , very important for menstruating women and so fresh to wash after going to the toilet , shaving legs bidets are useful too, I think it’s nasty to NOT have a bidet ! It’s great in hot countries to just freshen yourself during the day each time you go to the toilet even for just a wee !

Great video! That bidet is old fashion though. My mother had one of those put in the 1970s in London, England. Yeah, they were really rare but really liked her bidet! 'Her bidet' because none of us boys ever used it and neither did our dad, as far as I know! The new ones are fantastic and no getting up an turning around necessary! I'm here because I'm researching having one put in and I live on my own. It seems a no brainer, I just have to decide which type! It'll be one that incorporates the toilet so there'll be no foot washing!

THANK YOU! for this thorough video. I met my first bidet in the '80s and have run from them since. Now I realize that the fault was in the explanation of use and the the concept of the bidet. I would rather not interact with a public bidet but a personalized one seems a lot more appealing.

Thank you, finally an explanation. I figure it was for that purpose but never had a visual on exactly to use. Funny story on a trip to Mexico, our two year old thought it was a mini sink to wash her hands. Unfortunately when she turn the water on, the nozzle was pointed upward and splash her right onto her face. It was hilarious 🤣.

For an inexpensive one for the budget conscious, may I suggest the Squatty Potty version. Unless you have warm water going to your toilet, you'll only have cold water which I've found can cause a butt cramp in winter, but other than that, I highly recommend it.
@WhileAwayWithUs4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. Fortunately I don't really mind cold water on my butt. We will definitely look into this.

@@WhileAwayWithUs I got mine a couple of years ago, so I went to their site and I see they now have a dual stream one that goes over the toilet to wash front and back! They only had a single stream one when I bought mine & it appears they no longer carry my model. New one is listed as out of stock for 4-6 weeks, but the price is right and I'm definitely interested.
@johninokla26353 жыл бұрын
The video I saw said it was not a butt towel. It is there to dry your hand on. Here is what it said "You may notice a towel hanging within arm’s reach of your bidet. Be forewarned that this is for drying off your hands, never your rear." The one thing the site didn't go into was how to dry yourself after using the bidet. Edit: I just watched a video that says to use toilet paper to pat yourself dry. That makes sense to me

You can still use toilet papers if you want and then move over to the bidet for the final rinse to clean any traces or smell that could still be there.

I have only used the Japanese toilet seat bidet thing, but I agree that a bidet can be so useful especially for that time of the month for people who have periods or for anyone that just want their buttocks extra clean like mentioned in this video. I don’t mind doing this but for now I have to get my bathtub going and wash there because I have no bidet. Thank you for educating me on how to use a bidet ^o^ I never knew it was so multi purpose!

Very well done! As a nurse who knows the critical importance of keeping the Buttocks, Anus & Vagina structures of our bodies, this demonstration was exceptional. Kudos on providing info which for some reason, Americans talk about sex & other bizarre private acts, yet, talking about cleanliness in & near our rectum & genitals seems 😣 Uncomfortable? You did a superlative job here, so THANKS 🙏🏼. (As a nurse, dealing with cleanup of our body parts is natural for me; I know the importance of cleanliness & avoiding disease-so this was fantastic).

@@WhileAwayWithUs Yep! And if those ppl who were “repulsed” would just learn a thing or two FROM YOUR VIDEO, they’d get fewer infections in the genital & anal areas. Wanna bet? It's because of the demonized sexualization of/by religion and the shame/stigma around lower anatomy that we are not conditioned to talk about our private areas in scientific or hygienic terms.
@forestmoss57557 ай бұрын
@he_lives_in_apineapple_und9743 that and the idea of a bare hand coming into contact with even a tiny bit of poo is terrifying to some (like if you use the mild washing liquid and *gasp* actually touch your butt). They don't realize that their butts are just not clean if they only use TP.
