Hi Guys,
I have been asked by a couple of my lovelies to do an intro on how to use a Crop-A-Dile. I’m no expert by any means but I love my viewers and how quick everyone is to want to share their tips and tricks, so I will share what I know and wait for the experts to chime in in the comments.
I hope this helps at least a little to those who requested this video.
Thanks so much for watching.

Some eyelets come with washers for the back. They hide the splits and give a smoother and neater finish.

Try using A1 to set a 3/16 eyelet and C3 for 1/8 eyelets. Mine always work fine on any type of paper using those settings. The eyelets are supposed to spread apart on the back of the tag, If they don't, they will fall right out of the hole.

Why are my 1/8 not spreading when using C3 setting? Im only going thru 2 pieces of regular copier paper weight so not thick! Yes I am using it with the base and top on the right sides but mine was not spreading idk why, any help would be appreciated!
@DonnaVintageSnippets
@DonnaVintageSnippets 3 ай бұрын
@@karengill-je8hnWhen my eyelets don't spread, it's because I'm not pressing the Crop-a-dile hard enough. I go back and really press the handles together. They say you don't have to press hard, but I always have to. If that doesn't work, maybe try different eyelets. Sorry, I don't know any other reasons why they won't spread correctly.

Here you go: A1 for all 3/16” standard and oversized eyelets. B2 for all 1/8” round snap setter for all 1/8th standard snaps. C3 for 1/8” standard and oversized eyelets. D4 (flat setter) for all oversized, miscellaneous, and square shaped metal embellishments and snaps.😊

This is ironic because I've been so frustrated with my crop-a dile , just this week. It doesn't crimp the back correctly and i had no idea which thingy I needed to use for which size eyelit. It will ruin a project. So thank you for the information. Very helpful

I use A1 for my 3/16 hole. The back is suppose to spread out 'like a flower'. Spreading out helps keep the eyelet from eventually falling out. If it's 'smooth' it will eventually fall out because it's not gripping the paper like the one that spread out 'like a flower'... at least I think that's how it works. Also if you google we r memory keepers eyelet setter instructions, the Amazon link shows you the sizing for each type of eyelet. Thanks so much for sharing this video, it really helped!

I’ve also heard that the eyelets have little splits on the shaft, which make them flare out like a flower when you squeeze it. I think the ones that have a smooth shaft are actually grommets, which perhaps have a slightly different use. That’s why they crack when squeezed. The ones with the little splits are what you want to use. It’s amazing how these things take so much research, LOL.
@SunsetCrafts

I agree. So many different uses and so many different grommets and eyelets. So crazy

Thanks for the video, Maggie. I own a crop-a-dile and always just hope for the best. 😂 I switch between 1/8” and 3/16” eyelets and am never sure if I put it back to the right settings. Yes, you are the only one that I have seen explain this!! And I’ve had mine years! I played with it until it worked and then never changed the settings! I must use larger size rings all the time! I do like the look of! Have never seen some of the ones you showed but probably didn’t want to do anything to upset the settings either lol! Now that I know, I’ll write them down because I was always worried that they would get changed and I would need to test them all again until I found the right combo.! I didn’t even know about the tiny letters/ numbers on the machine or maybe I just ignored them because I didn’t bother to figure them out 🤪!

I have one that I still haven’t opened yet. it’s the blue one or kind of turquoise color. The instructions have a cube chart showing the top cubes, A through D, and the base cubes, 1-4, and how to use them for the different sizes. A1 is for 3/16 and C3 is for 1/8. I really need to give mine a try. Why, oh, why, cannot get started is anybody’s guess. Thanks for the little demo. It’s helpful.❤

Maybe this video will give you the push and inspiration to start using your new toy! I don’t have one, but after watching this video, I’m tempted to save up for one! Just put the package in front of you and count backwards from five and when you hit the number one, you open it and get a piece of card stock and start using it. I have found this to help push me when I am procrastinating! No excuses to not do it when you hit the number one. You just have to be determined that there is no other option but to start when you get to that number. Lol.

Hi, I"m a new subscriber! I don't know why this was recommended to me but I am so glad that I watched because, I have not used my WRMK crop a dile. Mine is teal and came in a kit with eyelets and a nice case- I think I got it off of HSN or JoAnns. I have watched many videos on this gadget but had not worked with it until today. I do not junk journal, but I make cards and art journals which are just with different types of paper: water color, mixed media etc. I decorated the covers. I bought my crop a dile mainly for tags believe it or not and to use in my card making. I got extra eyelets off of TEMU and they came in a nice little case too. I knew nothing about sizes so mine are all the larger size. The little ones are cute. Thank you, this was great!!!

I watched another video and she said the eyelets with a solid edge on the back will break because when pressed down there is no way for the eyelet to spread open. Look for eyelets that have a small fluted edge so when they are pressed down they already have a way to fan out. If that makes sense...also the directions say to use the post and bottom as follows A/1 B/2 C/3 D/4. The flat side B is for a flat top shaped decorative eyelet , the dome side D is for a dome top shaped decorative eyelet.

I just discovered your channel yesterday and I have binge watching since. Our temp is -32 Celcius right now (-39 with windchill) (-25.5 F)/windchill -38.2F) and way too cold to be outside so this is a perfect way to spend my time. I live in Calgary, Canada. I enjoy listening to your voice which is very calming and you are extremely creative. One of my most favorite things to use is Tim Holtz paper dolls and you have great ways to use them. The hardest thing I find with the Crop-O-Dile is the lock as it is temper mental.

I watch another channel, called Prairie paper and ink and crafter lives somewhere close to Calgary. I believe and she works out in her garage and does her videos out there too, and always has space heaters around her to help lol. She’s a brave one and an excellent paper crafter if you guys want to watch, those kind of videos.

Hi Mary, welcome to my channel. I’m so happy you decided to join my little corner of the YT world. I hope you stay warm. Looks like it’s getting cold everywhere. I love using the TH paper dolls, it’s actually hard for me not to use them. I have the same problem with the lock on my Crop-A-Dile too. I wonder if there is a way to maybe tighten it? The back should split so that it stays firmly in place. As far as I know, every Crop a Dile is the same, there are even ones made of rose gold (the metal) or gold (the plastic). Craftelier indeed has very good own brand eyelets. Have you tried the wide one? Love those too.

I have a Crop-A-Dile, and I love the way eyelets look, but it's a very hit and miss tool and all because of the eyelets and/or the pressure you use. Sometimes you can hear it clamp down, sometimes not. Pressing too hard, too soft has made this an aggravating tool to use.

@Valeri4561 Hi I don't normally add to someone's info on a video, but b/c you asked in this video I copied and pasted this from your other video. (the one with the window envelopes Tim Holtz style. I would like to give you a little hint. (I learned this by accident) The reason the eyelets from Hobby Lobby are spreading and rough is because you need to switch the bottom part of your Crop a Dile. So, if you dial the part of the Crop a Dile bottom part, (the part that smashes not the part that goes through the eyelets) Until you get to the flatter bump (you will know when you choose the correct one b/c your eyelet will be smooth on the back) You will be so happy! I know I was!! The way I found out is b/c my friend was with me learning to make journals and she accidentally moved that part. Voila!!! The eyelets were smooth!! Let me know if this helps you. :) PS I just discovered your channel and I really love it. :) Also after watching this video I edited this comment to add the bottom post should be on 2 Yours is on 3 which is a more raised surface and that's what causes the rough edge on the back of eyelets and also doesn't allow you to get a tighter fitting eyelet on thinner paper.
