Hello KZfaq,
In this video we will be going back to the basics. Working with a lab bench power supply is essential to working with electronics so it's important to understand how to use one properly. As always, let me know down in the comments what I got wrong.

This actually makes it make so much more sense. I was very confused and didn't realize the amparage was an amparage limit and not how much the power supply was going to output

Thanks! That was very helpful about the amp setting being more of a limiter and less of the amperage it is using to power your electronic.

Hey man, you seem to be in a similar situation to me. Im trying to make copper oxide, if you search how to make Copper oxide with electrolysis, the guys channels name is in for the penny. In his video he was running 6 Volts and 8 Amps to 2 copper electrodes in a salt water solution. I can only get mine to run maybe 300 milliamps max. I cant change voltage to whatver but it doesnt change the amperage. Could you maybe help me? I saw your comment and was hoping id get some clarity but alas i have not. Increasing voltage doesnt seem to increase current in the electrodes.

Hi, I need some advice. I just bought a Power Supply Kococater SPPS-S605: 60V - 5Am, pretty similar to the on the video. Firstable I am not an engineer but I am trying to emule a device with this PS. I want to use from 1 to 50V and from 1 to 35mA. I tried and set up to 20V and 5mA, but when it was used, the display showed: V:4.8 (it was moving but just reached 5V, and the Amper value did not move, it stayed on 5mA, this is the value I wanted). Here comes my question: What should I do and order to get this measurements: from 1 to 50V and from 1 to 35mA (I need to hold the voltage without changing the miliampers). Thanks.

I’ve got an Eventek that is in a similar package to yours. I’m starting to wonder if it is defective though. The only time i can adjust amperage is if I short the leads together. Once it is hooked up to a load, the adjustment does nothing, but as I turn it, the led voltage reading disappears. Thanks for the video. Our first lab in class, the teach basically just threw the power supplies at us without explaining a thing about how they work. Is it any wonder that half the equipment in class is currently broken?
@BigHemiNJ

That is happening to one I just purchased,, I wonder if its broken? Edit: The only time I can adjust amperage is if Its connected to my battery. I tried to hook it up to a volt meter and i couldnt adjust amperage. That is potentially the reason why we were having trouble. Hope this helps anyone else. So in order to adjust amperage you must be connected to what you want to charge.

@@engineerjoules7163 And how would you go about it? The voltage is to be fixed to 12V. With how many amps should I start?
@markstone1619
@markstone1619 11 ай бұрын
@@aleksandarsrdanov1171 No, you do not want the voltage 'fixed' at 12 volts. A 12 volt car battery is actually 13.6 volts when fully charged, so you want approx 14.5 volts to charge it. Your amps are typically about 2-3 amps for a slow trickle charge, or 4-6 amps for a medium charge rate, or 8-12 amps (or slightly more) for a fast charge rate. With this type of variable DC power supply you want to set the max voltage limit and the max amperage limit before you do the actual charging.

Initially you applied 3 volts and saw .035 A which means: r = v/i = 3/.035 = 85.7 ohms. So the LED must have about 85.7 ohms resistance. Then you kept max amps at .08 and tried to apply 4 volts but it clipped the voltage to 3.24 volts... so: r = 3.24/.08 = 40.5 ohms. So the LED must have 40.5 ohms resistance. I don't understand how that can be. I'm missing something but... not sure what it is.

LEDs and other semiconductor components are not acting linearly, therefore Ohm's law doesn't apply to them. Look at V-A diagram for LED to understand its behavior.
