I have been very much in the hate camp where brollys are concerned for close on 40 years, probably due to the amount of times as a kid i was chasing one down river banks or around lakes. I wish I'd had this advice then but it's never too late to learn something new and I now feel confident in setting up a brolly and actually being comfortable (ish) in the wind or rain instead of my usual sitting there really thinking I wish I was at home with a cuppa rather than sat here. Thanks Mick, I believe you've just enabled me to enjoy even more time on the bank rather than endure it .

As we get older, they become essential, imo. Years ago I had a Keenet flatback with zips in, so you could push the pole through, never seen one like that since. I now have the NuFish Nu-Lite and couldn't be without.

Very Informative video Mick,... One thing I always struggle with is the various brolly clamps available, what I think would be ideal, is a brolly clamp which allows you to angle the brolly pole to suit, I.e. angled so that the base of the brolly is on the ground at all times....👍

Very good Mick, one other USE I found is if you buy a new umbrella, keep the old one and “peg it down facing the wind in front of your Quiver Tip Rod, and then you can see everything on a bad windy day. It works especially on Big Rivers and Drains. Tone

Lovely stuff, all very informative! One question, when on a fully open water and the wind is howling around and you’re trying to fish the pole at 13m plus, you have a brolley clamp and you have a wooden dowel through your brolley stem, how do you position that brolley to be able to ship in and out and look after the tip kits on the roost? gap in the market?

Another tip Mick, put the point inside of the pole, stops any damage to your holdall, I learned that many years ago with my Flat 8.

Definitely peg 'em down whenever possible, don't want one flying toward your face pole-first, like on a clip of Jamie Hughes I saw recently.

Just bought a Nu-tex umbrella as mine blew inside out even though it was pegged down and guy roped. Can these be turned back the correct way should they go inside out. Also what do you do if the wind is blowing towards you but need to keep the sun off you. Cheers 🍻

about 50 yrs ago my mum bought my dad a brolly for xmas, first day on the beach, it took off and flew about half a mile out to sea, he never did get another one, if only you had your video out then, and did you give it a shake to get the wet off before wrapping it up to put in the bag, any tips on what to do when the brolly is completely frozen and you cant get it down

I always carry a mallet to hammer the spike into the ground which is sometimes rock hard.

When putting the brolly back in the bag - put the pointy end of the pole into the tube to stop it breaking through the bag

Sometimes you can use other items to anchor your brolly. Your bags can be a good start and using a bungee type strap in a bag can be a great idea

You may be best with a small shelter a supposed to a brolly if you are looking for that kind of space

Fished for years. I hate using it. I use my matrix brolly on the clamp on the back leg but I still don’t feel comfy fishing with it up I can’t ship proper and use my landing net without hitting the pole and when I dont catch it and move the brolly half the brolly is over nothing and I’m still getting rained on 😂

Top tip when fishing under a brolley, is to buy a cheap telescopic landing net handle. Butt can be pushed into the umbrella and collapse in to land fish, no hindrance at all!

36mm leg with a pointed ground drive fixed to the end, so that a brolley attachment can be fitted and the umbrella positioned off the seatbox in any position around the around the angler, lashed down securely. Eliminating any box topples from strong gusts...I'd buy one!

You forgot 1thing don't get off Ur box in mega wind with a brolly clamp not pegged down or soon as Ur weight is off box your brolly turns into a sail and Ur 500 quid box gets tipped into lake with side draws open and 100 quid of terminal tackle is at bottom of lake and it's done that twice in 40 yrs think u would have learnt 1st time lol

Back in the 90s we used to get a rock and tie it from the tip of the brolley with some kitchen twine, that was the anchor we needed. Seems like the wind wasn’t so wild back then! 😂😂😂
