The Masterson Sta-Wet palette works great to keep your acrylic paint from drying out too quickly. I've even kept paint useable for days with this palette.

Thank you for the tips. I didn't know about soaking the paper, or re-using it. A hint I was given about keeping the sponge mold free, is to put 4 or 5 pennies in the bottom, under the sponge. It's kept my sponge much nicer than before I put them in..

Would that be "real" copper pennies (1981 and prior with 95% copper) or 1982 onward which are copper-plated zinc (zinc~97%)?

INSTRUCTIONS that came with Sta-Wet : 1-SOAK - just one piece- of the white paper sheets in HOT TAP WATER. (I fill up my clean sink about 1-2 inches of hot water to do this) OR put piece of white paper in a microwave safe bowl & microwave 3-5min or until water boils. 2- YELLOW SPONGE is to be SOAKED in cold water & wring out 1/2 of the water of sponge. 3- Place the SPONGE in first, smooth side up, then your paper. Use a paper towel to wipe off excess water. If it’s the 1st time using sponge- rinse it thoroughly under RUNNING water. DARK COLORS sometime bleed so FYI CLEAN UP- simply rinse out the sponge, you can do the same with the paper. Doesn’t have to be perfect! Especially if you’re using good quality paints. ❤

My paints lasted quite a few weeks. The Golden paints became custurdy. The Holbein paints are runny so I wouldn't use them in this application. One thing that surprised me was that the paper and the sponge both disintegrated. So...I had to start with new paper. The sponge is a natural sponge and thus why it fell apart. Tri Art and Windsor Newton are fine to use as well but Holbein is not suitable as they are quite susceptible to running into the other colours.

I have a tip! Rather than eventually needing to buy more Sta-Wet papers to place on the sponge, you can cut a styrofoam plate or two so they are flat and you can place them on top of the sponge that is wet. I found this not only perfect for keeping the acrylic paints wet, but they don't get runny from becoming too saturated with water themselves, which I found happened. My paints on the Sta-Wet papers would start to run and they would change and become a little different in their consistency. This doesn't happen with the styrofoam plate.

@@mariobeaudoinstudio9851 Hi Mario, I watched your video and I liked it but I don't speak french either. You said that it was Tyvec, did you mean Tyvek? Because after a lot of googling and searching I found that Tyvek as a building material is mostly a cloth construction material, yes it breathes and is waterproof. In your video it looks very hard like a plastic. The other Tyvek I have seen is paper and you can both paint and draw on both of these materials. If you can clarify further where it is from or bought or a link online I would greatly appreciate that sir.

@@charlieeatcrow7731 If the paper dries out, you have to soak it again. It tells you all that in the instructions. But see my tip I added. I don't use the papers anymore as the paint tends to get a little runny - although staying wet. I use a cut-to-size styrofoam plate. Paint doesn't get runny. Stays the right consistency and doesn't dry out either! (I'm happy because I don't have to keep soaking papers and trying to clean up runny paints and buying more papers!

@@mary-chrishines9391 Thank you! I thought maybe it did not have to be in HOT water after the first time. Or as long. I am patience challenged ;-) I finally bought one. Very mixed feelings. My paint, like yours, soaked up too much water . I tried wringing more water out of the sponge... The paper was on the fragile side and sometimes thinned in spots or tore.

Best video on how to use thank you. I live in high desert and my paints dry out so fast . Do you have hard time seeing the colors your mixing with previous stained colors underneath? Also is that how you clean the pallette paper? The way you prep the pallette paper? Just clarify. Thank you
@theweekendbeckons9439

I don't have a huge issue seeing the colours I'm mixing but it depends on whether I'm using opaque or more transparent colours. If that's a concern, then I'd just toss the sheet each time. I just wipe up any large piles of paint and then use a nail scrub brush and running water to clean the rest.

I am not in a position to use my wet palette as often. I use it most often for table top role playing game miniature painting. Mines gotten a little moldy (the sponge) and actually just recently I noticed it’s gotten some rips in it. I’m wondering what has caused this, if it’s the mold mostly, I have done a little bit of wringing out because the packaging said to wring out half the water (which is difficult to judge), otherwise, it’s not too bad to buy more. They come in a three pack. My paints seem to have dried out faster though, so I think I’ve been letting too much water escape.

So after you are done with your painting project, the Sta-Wet paper would have different colored paint left over. Do you wash out the leftover still-wet paint from the Sta-Wet paper in the sink and reuse for the next project, or do you just keep it sealed in the plastic container indefinitely?
@theweekendbeckons9439
@theweekendbeckons9439 Жыл бұрын
You can do either. I will sometimes keep my paint sealed in the container for a couple days as I work on a painting. Some people keep theirs for even longer but I get concerned about mild. If I’m just painting for a single day, I scrape off the thicker excess and then rinse the paper, then dry it for the next time I want to use it.
