Closed captioning done.
Pepe Tools asked me to check out their new 90mm Ultra Rolling Mill. It's a sturdy little workhorse with a lot of versatility.
In this video, I discuss how to use a rolling mill, what to do with a rolling mill, how to roll metal, things to pattern metal with and a brief part on roller maintenance.
This is the first video (ever) for my friend, and new producer, Rebecca. She is taking Lisa's place and, for her first video, I think she did a good job! We're working on the focusing and capturing details aspect but, I'm sure, she'll be filming like a pro, in no time! Otherwise, no chicken nuggets for her!!!!
Please "Like" this video! We appreciate it.

I visited Pepetools just yesterday. Meet the owner SUPER nice guy. Gave me a tour of the shop. Blew me away with the machinery it takes to make these parts. CNC machines mills lathes the whole gamete. The manufacture is truly here in the good ol' USA!!!!

+2LateIWon I've been impressed with the quality vs. price of their tools too. USA made and so much better than some of the imports. They've been very kind to me and our makerspace too. Thanks.

Thanks Nancy, Got a 130mm PePe Mill about 3 months ago and can't say enough about it's quality and fine engineering. A world above the economy models and a big THANK YOU to Pepe for setting up shop in the USA. As a senior (fixed income) , I'm glad I waited for this to come onto the market for it's price point. Keep up the good videos. I really like the addition of the furry helpers. They really ad charm to the presentations. Have fun ;)

I bought one of the 130mm Pepe mills when they first came out with the Ultra model made in the USA. Fantastic engineering and quality workmanship. For just a bit more than the foreign economy models you can have one of the Pepe mills. Also, thanks Nancy for the spicy intro---watch out America's got talent. Love the cats in the Vids---good people and always willing to help. Thank you and thank Pepe tools.

Great video as usual, Nancy! Thank you. I just bought a cheap one that works well. My first try ended up in turning a handmade lace into paper (I DID anneal the metal but my daughter is STRONG!). It's working out better and better, and soon it's time for enameling again!

Great video as always -- Thanks Nancy! Just got my 130mm PT last week, following all your instructions for opening the box and setting it up, even created the dowel thingy to keep it oiled and cleaned. Going to try my hand at this today and make my first impression with some copper bracelet blanks - nervous so I'm going to go watch a few more of your videos to gain more confidence. Don't want to ruin my rollers :(

I'm finally ready to take the step and buy a rolling mill. Thanks for sharing the great information as you always do. Do you happen to have an affiliate link for the Pepe mill you demonstrated with? If not, that's fine, I just prefer to use affiliate links for people so generous with their time and information like you. I'm super exited to get one and start using it. I love texturing metal, but find etching unpredictable and would love to be able to repeat patterns with more success. Plus all the other options for texture are exiting!

Hi: I am an intermediate beader and a beginner metal. Do you suggest that I purchase a Sixxiz for metal embossing first or go straight for the rolling mill. What I like about the mill is that it has so many ways to use it and the sizzix can get pricey with the pattern plates. I live in an apt and have limited space.

I love your kitty cat! I have an economy mill that I bought from Otto Frei, and I'm thrilled to have it. It works great, but then I've never used anything more expensive, so I can't compare its performance to the higher end models. Your lovely filigree necklace makes you look like you have a Harry chest, LOL.

So, (love your videos) you seem like the best person to ask. . . What would happen if I used a texture plate and sandwiched it with metal and whatever necessary to protect everything. . .and then ran over it with my car? I don't have a rolling mill yet, the texture plate is $50. What do you think the outcome would be? Would I ruin the texture plate? Points to ponder.

I actually tried that (grin). The only pattern was from dirt and tiny little rocks. 1) Maybe I didn't anneal properly 2) maybe tires aren't hard enough

You can also buy rolling mill patterned paper designs on Etsy from "MetalDesignz" and "rollingmillresource", they've got some cool designs; and i believe one or both will do customs designs. If you're careful with them they can be used multiple times.

What gauge brass to use as sandwich for the steel texture plates?
@NancyHamiltonJewelry
@NancyHamiltonJewelry 2 жыл бұрын
Most gauges should work 22, 20, 18. Some steel texture plates are specifically designed to used without sandwiching them. I was taught to always sandwich steel but, Kevin Potter, of Potter USA, recently told me that he nevers sandwiches steel plates and that man knows steel, mills and everything! Have fun.

Hey Nancy, great videos, thanks for taking the time to share knowledge. You mentioned (3:18) that the rolling mill had a maximum thickness of 5cm, I think you may have meant 5mm? (blame it on Ralph for distracting you). Thanks again for the vids.

+ColdForgeRings Jewelry You're probably right - that seems to happen a lot with me. Although, don't have the mill, here, in my studio to check but, 5cm does seem a bit large! Thanks for pointing that out - I'll put a note at that spot in the video.
