I flushed down the toilet a couple of dill pickles, thinking in my stupidity they would go down easy (DON'T ASK, NO LOGIC TO BE FOUND HERE). This was monday. Ever since I bought an augur and pushing it as far as i can there's no pickles to be found on its tip whenit comes out no matter how long i turn and push in and out, so I think they might've went further down the drain. When I flush it takes the water 6-7 seconds to fully drain and at the end it does that little sploosh sploosh splossh instead of the big WHOOSH when it drains normally). I've flushed down a couple of buckets of hot water with dish soap, as well as some CLR, DW40 and now some drains cleaners that are supposed to clear hair, I flushed and poured them in at the very end so they wouldn't get completely flushed by the water. I'll wait overnight to see if they do anything but if not, I guess at this point my only option is to call a plumber huh? If I poop I can make it all go away but only with a plunger, otherwise it just becomes brown water that spins every time i flush and drains slowly. So it's as if there's something way down the drain farther than my augur. Also I've been flushing a lot of my hair from my comb in the past months I've been growing it long. Could that be an issue too? My augur doesn't pull any hair, but it could be down the drain with the pickles? What a shitty situation tbh.

@@amvlabs5339 yeah he said the problem is the hairy pickles. I'd definitely call a plumber and remember not to put hairy pickles in your drain even if it's only for 6 or 7 seconds it could cause serious damage

Thanks. This video helped me out a great deal. I was just sticking the snake in the toilet and twisting the top. I know now that it wasn't even going down the drain. However, after I watched this video and began to use the snake properly the toilet began to flush on the 2cd try. About 10 minutes after I began to use it properly. Now I no longer have to go after family and friends to unclog my toilet. Thanks for the clear and proper instructions.

Thank you thank you thank you! I am a 65-yesr-old single woman readying my condo for sale. I am downsizing and do not need three toilets, or so I thought! One of them needs a stopper replacement in the tank and then last night I managed to plug a second toilet (hence, grateful for toilet #3). Luckily, my teenage grandson lived with me for awhile and he clogged one of my toilets. A plunger did not work, so we bought a snake that looks just like the one you used. That was a couple years ago and when the plunger didn't work on my clog, I went out and got the snake from the garage and Googled how to use it. Excellent helpful video! The other night as I was flushing the toilet 2 lil medicine cups fell out the package on my bathroom shelf. Wow, what great concise directions. Three years ago same toilet was stopped beyond plunger clearing and I paid a plumber $150+ and watched him use toilet snake, but didn't note how he actually did it. This time I saved $100, but my first try didn't work. After watching your video I knew I had to move the snake repeatedly in and out and sure enough after a few minutes the water started draining and it was cleared. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Wow I was just going to pay a Roto Rooter to unplug my toilet. I tried using the toilet auger with no avail. I came into youtube and I came across your tutorial on how to use a auger properly and within 2 minutes I was successful to break loose the clog in the bottom of the toilet . You’re a life saver!! First the flapper chain broke then the toilet clogged. Been waiting for maintenance over a week so I decided to at least unclog it myself. I was an apt. maintenance man, A/C tech, Appliance Repair Technician, plumber, electrician and whatnot for over 35 years before I retired and your chain problem can be fixed without a chain. My flapper chain kept hanging up on itself constantly and had to jiggle it to stop. I finally just got some smooth twine and tied it to the flapper in place of the chain and it's been good for over two years now and no more hangups.

Thanks for the suggestion about how to get rid of the scratch marks on the porcelain. I made the same mistake of not pushing the covering down over the metal coil, and scratched the porcelain pretty badly. When I asked my local hardware guy if there was a way to get rid of those scratches, he said that, unfortunately, there wasn’t, that I was just stuck with them. So I’d been looking at all those scratches for about a year, had another clog, watched this video, followed your advice about how to get rid of the scratches, and just like that, THEY’RE GONE! Thanks for that great bit of advice!

Thank you for showing me the correct way to use the snake. I first tried my plunger and then switched to snake, but it wasn't until I watched this video did I begin to use it correctly. I saw some progress until I couldn't manipulate the snake any more. I decided to try the plunger again and in less than a minute the plunger was able to finish the job! So now I'm less of an unhandy man than I used to be.

The metal snake coil is not scratching your porcelain, it's writing on it like a metal pencil. Porcelain is much harder than the metal.
