Hi Salvador - yes its a delightful process. I think glazing is one of my all time favourite techniques. I often revisit long dried paintings and see an area that needs a lift of a shadow and try a glaze. Best of all, if it dosn't work I can wipe it off and try again. Or leave well alone. 😃😎

Paul, I attempted this piece. My rocks, while not as colorful (or as good) as yours actually turned out to be the best part of my painting. When I performed the my signature feat of creating a big splat of unwanted paint on my creation, I was ready to toss it. But Mrs. Angel chimed in with an important reminder (yours) to walk away and fix it later. She wasn’t wrong. And I’m so grateful. It’s turned out to be the one painting my very small circle in friends & family admire. I would, however, wish to someday feel the same way about my work that others appear to. 😊

So beautiful and soft. I’m reminded of another painting you did if an autumn bokeh, using similar techniques. I painted that one and learned much on how important to stand back to see what was going on in my painting. I love the golden warm colors. Thanks Paul! Love the brushes and cotton bud! 😃

The approach to this is brilliant. What seems to be complex at first turns out to be deceptively simple (relatively speaking) and serene, and far greater than the sum of its parts. The two light sources/areas and the color spectrum in the river are sublime, and the results of the scene is dreamy. The ripples around the rocks is the icing on the cake.

Hi Ken - yes, sometimes the most complex looking scenes are far easier than expected. And of course the opposite is true of simple looking scenes. I've come a cropper more than once. I hope my offering this Sunday isn't one of those. But if it is then its a lesson learned (again!!) -Paul 😃😎

I've had a few issues around the hosting of my tutorials and I've just begun the process of moving everything to a new service. Its a work in progress that I hoped to have completed over Christmas. Well, Paul, at the very least I can begin stabbing away with my prefab sponges to lay out the acrylic bits. I came across a really nice product from my local art supply store. It’s a pad of multicolored, pastel, light but durable canvases. All I do is just tape them to one of my canvas boards. And while it looks feasible enough, I’ve yet to give it a go. But since they’re only about 50 cents a pop, I guess I could practice your techniques without worrying so much about running out of Mrs. Angels’ many gifts.

Underwater stones - what a great idea! I'm getting ready to paint a landscape with a field of white wildflowers going clear back to the horizon and using black gesso for the first time. Do you recommend using a fan brush for the far away flowers or something else please? Also do you have any suggestions on when to stop "fixing" things in a painting?

Thats a tough one Bethany. I like using an old beaten up brush for the tiny details like distant flowers. So use what ever looks the most distressed! As for knowing when to stop ... well again another difficult question. My general rule of thumb is the best your going to paint it is usually the first time. Every time you repaint it will degrade the original colour and soon you'll be mud mixing. So take you time. Pick your colours and try a few strokes on a scrap of canvas or the palette. Then you'll be ready to paint the painting. Have fun - Paul 😃😍😎

Sadly I just learned this morning that the BR 2-incher I’d ordered via your Amz link is not available. ☹️ I’ll keep checking back though. Unless you have another vendor you prefer and would like to share. Fingers crossed for the 1-incher and other items.

Thanks for letting me know the supplier is out. I'll attend to that right away. But, if you watch my tutorials I almost never use a 2" brush for a canvas size around the 16" x 20" mark. Its a little too large unless your into a bigger size like 18" x 24" So, I'd say save a few pennies and buy a second 1". Use a regular old house hold 1" for the chores like liquid white and clear which will kill your expensive brushes delicate touch and highlights. Eventually you'll wear them out and then get a couple of nice new ones and religate your old brushes to the horse. There, problem solved and Mrs Angel is happy again!

@@PaulRansonArt Paul, you’re too funny. “if you watch my tutorials…” seriously? LMAO! Not only do I watch them, I watch them over and over again just for make certain that I’ve understood all of it! Every product, every stroke, size, color, brush and stab, I honestly can’t get enough. We love them. Admittedly, I’ve strayed from time to time, but I always come back to this master.

You use new and old brushes in your paintings. I am just getting started and don't have old brushes. Is there a way to get around this without buying used ones of of E-bay?

Hi and welcome to the cjannel - I can hear the comments section filling up with 'paint more paintings and you'll soon have worn brushes' 😂 That will of course happen in time but for now just head for the hardware store and buy a couple of really cheap 1" brushes. Use these for the chores like liquid white and clear. Keep your nice brushes for the delicate highlights and soft blending. In time when you start wearing out your brushes you can exchange one for another. You might notice my old brushes have an orange tip so I dont mix them up when painting. Do the same with yours - I use a bottle of nail varnish for this - top tip for you - Happy Painting - Paul 😄🥰😎

I’m not sure if this is prudent, but I think I should wait for my BR brushes before starting another painting. Everything else I’ve tried just doesn’t make it.

Hi Robin - spot on. The right tools will make the task easier to tackle. It will of course need the practice but at least you know your starting on an even wicket as we say in Blighty. 😃

Well the painting starts with acrylics and is finished with oils. But, I think you should experiment and see if you can do it all in acrylics. I think you should be able to with care. Happy Painting 😃😎

Hello Maria - I use acrylics now and again - more for speed as they dry quicker than oils. Then I can get to the glazing techniques quicker for the video - New video tutorial coming soon on this subject - Happy Painting - Paul 😃😍😎

I cant see any water?the trees and bushes are great, ther is no river? Their are no reflections,

Hi Michael - yes my scene has a strong sidel lighting and a lack of reflections. The trees on the right cast a shadow instead save for the tiny glint of light illuminationg the under water pebbles. I'm sure if the light were overhead then the bank opposite would probably cast a reflection. Hope this helps😃😎
