By popular request, Fredrik and Nancy took some video for us about how they use their Beach Rollers with their 17' Salish Voyager sailboat, "Wild Places." The rollers help them pull the boat up above the tide line so they don't wake up to any nasty surprises while they are beach camping in remote areas of Alaska!
Here they show their technique for pulling the boat up the beach, including selecting an anchor point on the beach, positioning the rollers, and setting up the pull lines for both low angle and high angle beaches.
Our friends at Duckworks are happy to hook you up with your own pair of beach rollers at duckworks.com/.... For more information about the Salish Voyager by Gig Harbor Boat Works, see our website at ghboats.com/ou...

Excellent demo! 👍👍👍 Three beach-sausages would be ideal for most small boats to prevent excessive scraping, and I think the pull setup was ideal... well done.

Absolutely, three rollers is a really user friendly way to do it since that way you always have two underneath the boat. 👍

The 3 way tacklem prusik knot (it has another name among mariners in Europe, but same stuff) and walking DOWNHILL while pulling show solid experience. Very well done !

Thanks! Will relay the good feedback. (Out of curiosity, what would the Europeans call it?)

Very nice video and even better product! I can see how three rollers makes a lot of sense.

Interesting point, it would make for a bit more stability having that third point of contact along the keel

Roller a small non-rot tree section? A saw for 3rd piece driftwood, stow with the rollers ' air pump ? Can a bicycle pump suffice ?
@scottjones536
@scottjones536 Жыл бұрын
@@robertknowles2699 Part of the beauty of the beach rollers is that they can be packed away when deflated, much better than stowing a bit of driftwood and the circumference and relative surface area of the roller allows them to ride over sand rather than dig in. The valve on the rollers is not compatible with any bicycle pump that I've seen.

@@robertknowles2699 a bike pump probably wouldn't work well. They are relatively low volume and high pressure. You would want some higher volume and lower pressure. I bet an air mattress pump would be about right but you might need a little more pressure.

Nicely done. But the pulley system just has a 2:1 advantage. The bigger pulley just changes the direction of the rope but doesn't give any advantage.

@@RestlessNative987there are only two sections of line connected to the boat and pulling. It's a 2:1.

@@RestlessNative987 by that logic a straight rope is a 2:1. Or a rope going over a single pulley attached to an anchor and simply changing direction. It's 2:1, one I will build one and show you if you really want. There are 2 on the boat and 1 in the person's hand. 2 to 1

Quite sure it's only 2:1 as it's being used. However, I think it would be 3:1 if Nancy was pulling while riding in the boat. As it is, her feet are pushing uphill against the sand. If she was in the boat her body would be also helping to push the boat uphill, instead of the sand. It's not always as simple as I used to think. 🤔

Just one difference between Florida and the Pacific NW, we have 1 to 3 foot tides. I was up that way in 2001 and you have beautiful nature all around.
@ghboats
@ghboats Жыл бұрын
Oh man, I can't even imagine that! 10-12 foot tides are so commonplace around here. It's definitely beautiful here, but it's a fact of life that when the king tides roll around, some of the waterfront homes and businesses in town have to deal with flooding!

The Salish Voyager weighs over 400 pounds, and fully loaded as they have here probably closer to 600-700. Get the rollers. 😅
