Uses of ‘being’ - English Grammar Lesson
‘Being’ is the present participle of the verb ‘be’. It is not used very often. In this lesson, you are going to learn the three basic uses of ‘being’.
1. ‘Being’ is used in the continuous tense to talk about a person’s action or behavior:
Example: You are being silly.
Example: He was being naughty.
Note: Do not use ‘being’ to talk about a person’s feeling.
Example: I am being delighted to meet you. (Incorrect)
Example: I am delighted to meet you. (Correct)
2. It is used in the present and past continuous passive voice to show continuity of the action in the present or past.
Example: Dinner is being cooked by mother. (Present continuous passive voice)
Example: A kite was being made by John. (Past continuous passive voice)
3. It replaces ‘as’, ‘because’ and ‘since’:
Example: Being late, he couldn't watch the match. (as he was late, because he was late, since he was late)
Example: Being a friend of the actor, I am often invited to his parties. (As I am a friend, because I am a friend, since I am a friend)

A great lesson. I am going to add some further regarding "being.". For example, This boy is good and This boy is being good. The difference in two sentences could be: In first case the action is permanent (He is good all the time), the second sentence with being shows a temporary behavior - that's he is naughty other times but lets say today he was good.

Thank you very much for making this video clip for the interest of many viewers of this channel. Yes, Madam! If possible, please develop this program further by adding some extra parts (may be 3 parts!) because the "BEING" is really confusing in different contexts. So, please collect a lot of practical examples and make a detailed series for the benefit of viewers here. For example, SHE IS BEING KIND. It implies that she looks kind, but we don't know it for sure. She may be a different personality in the real life. So, the applications of BEING is manifold, so please do this for the benefit of us. Good Luck! Bye for now!
@roscianyt
@roscianyt 8 жыл бұрын
"She is being kind," does not tell you how she looks. It means that, at the moment, she is doing a nice thing. Also, no one uses the word manifold in this context.

@@roscianyt where can we use manifold?
@roscianyt
@roscianyt 4 жыл бұрын
@@sreejareddygummi4900 Yes, I was not clear. First, the sentence is wrong because 'is' should be 'are'. Second; manifold, as an adjective, means numerous and varied and not just 'many', as is would seem the word is being used here. Think of things that are manifold are of many different kinds. Also, using a word such as manifold as in this post is rather pedantic. When would you use the word? Example: The reasons I can't buy a new car right now are manifold. (Here it works because the write means means various reasons and not just a lot of reasons.) Example: People apply to work at that company because the opportunities to advance are manifold. (Here, again, it means many various reasons and not just many reasons.) Hope this helps.

@ElviraSmithP23
@ElviraSmithP23 5 ай бұрын
@@RajeshRajesh-eb7os Than, Could you tell me the correct sentence? If you knew the correct sentence, why didn't you write it down? If you were a good teacher🤔(?), you would write down the correct answer, or you would have already fixed it. Right? It is very easy to throw here "wrong sentence". But telling the correct sentence is really difficult for you. By the way, you missed out the period at the end of your comment. So your sentence is incorrect.
