Modelling is a compositional technique where you use a single reference track as a detailed blueprint to create a new cue... a sort of Sound-A-Like which is something we are often asked to do as composers when directors and producers give us temp music or references. This process involves analyzing those reference track's form, structure, instrumentation, harmonic language, and rhythmic patterns to guide the creation of a new cue that retains the stylistic elements of the reference but is original in its melodic and harmonic content.
