that's literally almost exactly the same as japanese "私は本が好きです" "as for me, the book is pleasing" and korean can do it both ways. "제가 책을 좋아해요" "i like the book" and "저는 책이 좋아요" "as for me, the book is pleasing"

6:50 Thanks a bunch for this video. So could "A Juan y a su hermano les gusta la casa" be literally translated as "To Juan and to his brother, to them, it is pleasing, the house" ? I am just trying to understand the thoughts in a spanish speaking person's head as they are saying the words. In english is the subject of the sentence "The house pleases Juan and his brother", The house, since it was rearranged? Can you not say in Spanish "La casa gusta Juan y su hermano"?

Yes, your literal translation is correct! The reason you don't say "La casa gusta (a) Juan y (a) su hermano" in Spanish, even though the words line up with how we think in English, is the same reason we don't say "The ball I throw" in English - it's a custom in each language to order things in certain ways. In Spanish, the custom is to order the sentence with the person or thing that is pleased, then gustar, then the thing that pleases them. Or put more in the English mindset: first the person or thing that likes something, then gustar, then the thing that is liked.

Yes, you can say it like that as well. La casa le gusta a Juan y a su hermano. Me gusta la casa. La casa me gusta. I like the house. Le gustan los perros. Los perros le gustan. He/She/You formal like dogs 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
