Another thing to keep in mind. When you slow down in adaptive cruise control, if the car in front of you changes lanes or traffic speeds up quickly your vehicle will accelerate rapidly if there is a significant difference between the speed you were slowed down to and the speed you have set on the cruise control. You may not want to take off that rapidly, so you need to be alert for such sudden changes by the vehicle in front of you.

An EXCELLENT lesson, thank you. I just jumped from my '95 Jeep (just wrecked) to a 2023 Santa Fe rental. I'm such a novice about 21st C. autos, I needed to ask the clerk how to start the car. So a lot is still a mystery. You are a fabulous teacher!

Great and informative video. One comment about the end of the video. You said drivers should be more vigilant in fog, rain, snow, etc. These and other conditions are when drivers should NEVER use cruise control of any kind, no matter how smart it is. No way is this car “smart” enough to immediately enough to override driver settings and disable acceleration the instant you start hydroplaning or skidding in snow. The system is not smart enough to compensate for fog and reduce the speed accordingly.

This is an amazingly helpful video. I purchased a 2022 Hyundai Tucson Limited (regular, not Hybrid or electric model) a month ago and have been struggling to figure out all the gizmos it has. The dealership was moderately helpful but basically said, get in and play with it to figure it out and the manual is less than helpful to a newbie. This makes me feel much more confident using the cruise control and now I understand what the additional features are and will be more likely to use them. If you have other videos showing how to use all the features of the beautifully huge center console I hope I can find them too. Also, are you aware of any way, other than disconnecting the battery, to reset the system when the sound goes out? The "reset" button did nothing. I stumbled upon a response online mentioning disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes and that was the only thing that we could find that worked. Thanks again, this clears up a lot!

Hello Gail, unfortunately I don't have any other how-to videos about the Tucson on my channel other than the Highway Driving Assist and Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control, which your Tucson should have since it's a limited. You can watch that video here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iM6BiJqFsdC2oGQ.html but quite frankly those features aren't nearly as useful as the standard Smart Cruise Control system that I described in this video you left this comment on. I mainly stick to Adaptive Cruise Control how-to videos for different types of cars, because it's a feature I am very familiar with and I enjoy using myself. Unfortunately I don't know anything about resetting the audio on this car either, I apologize about that.

Hi Gail, this response is a bit late but I have a '22 Tucson Limited (Hybrid) and had issues with the sound going out from time to time, usually when I was using Android Auto. What I found that usually worked was to push the Media button and switch to a different source like radio or Bluetooth audio, then switch back to the source I was listening to (Android Auto). 95% of the time that fixed it for me. The other times I had to disconnect my phone from Android Auto (I use a wireless adapter called Motorola MA1, so I unplugged that from the car and plugged it back in) and that usually solved the other 5%. Hope that helps!

Here's a tip it took me a little while to figure out - how to realize that the car in front of you is causing you to go slower than you have set. You can of course just look at the speedometer, but that can be distracting and annoying. An easier way (I think) is to just glance at the ACC icon. If the car on the left side of the icon is white, the car in front is controlling your speed (you are going slower than your set speed). If it is gray, the car in front is going at least as fast as your set speed, and if it is missing no car has been detected in front of you.

No, once the Smart Cruise Control is engaged you can leave your foot off of the gas and the brakes, the car will take car of those operations during normal conditions. If someone cuts you off or there is a sudden obstacle, hit the brakes. If the smart cruise is engaged and you are approaching stopped traffic, hit the brakes.

I was told the new some Idle Stop and Go is not on some of the 2023 Santa Cruz. Salesman said it was because of the type of motor. There is no off/on button on the vehicle. Are there some cars that don't have to have Idle Stop and Go? I want to know before I buy a new Santa Cruz! Thanks
@CarDietrich
@CarDietrich Жыл бұрын
When you say idle stop and go, are you referring to the system that can shut the engine off to save fuel? Or the Smart Cruise Control’s ability to bring the car to a complete stop?

Whats the lowest speed you can enable the cruise at ? can you activate it if you forget and get stuck in traffic going 5 mph or needs to be at least 20mph or something similar before it can be turned on ? Does brake pedal cancel the adaptive cruise as it does cancel normal cruise as well ?

You need to be going at least 20 MPH to activate the Smart Cruise Control. If you hit the brake it does cancel the Smart Cruise Control.

If the lane driving assist is active and the car's cameras can read the lane lines it should help you steer through it, but you need to keep your hands on the wheel and control the steering yourself if necessary.

Minimum speed to engage the Smart Cruise Control is 20 mph, so maybe set it on surface streets before you get on to the traffic clogged freeway so you can just resume it when your in traffic

Have a '24 Tuscon Limited. When I cancel cruise the digital mph display isn't there anymore. Am I doing something wrong?
@briansomething5987
@briansomething5987 Ай бұрын
Which digital display? The small one at the top (that goes away if cruise control is off) isn't your actual speed, it is the speed the CC is set for. If you want a digital display of your speed, press the left-hand button on the right side of the steering wheel (next to the cruise control buttons). The center of the display will cycle between info for this trip, info since refueling, info since manually reset, and the current speed (in big numbers).

It would be very informative to know how the speed reduction works. My first thoughts were "how often am I going to go through brake pads"? So, is it controlled mechanically or electronically, through braking, transmission, or engine? Or a combination? I did go to the dealer, but not completely satisfied with their explanation.
@CarDietrich
@CarDietrich Жыл бұрын
The car will coast to slow down when it can, but it will use the brakes when it needs to as well. The system is not aggressive, it tries to be smooth, so it's not going to slam on the brakes unless it's an emergency situation and the person in front of you slammed on their brakes. To the specific question of "how often am I going to go through brake pads?" The answer to that is pretty much exactly as often as you would if you didn't use the Smart Cruise Control. Think about it, it doesn't change the driving conditions you're in. If the car in front of you slows down quickly, the brakes are going to be used. It's either you hitting them or the car's computers.
@patrickbarrett1255

I should have clarified. The car in front is traveling at 60 mph, and my cruise is set at 75 so we are both going 60. Are my brakes holding me at 60 or is another system, ie transmission?
@CarDietrich
@CarDietrich Жыл бұрын
No, the brakes are not holding you at 60 in that situation. The car is adjusting the throttle and what gear the transmission is in to maintain the speed of the car in front of you.

I am driving Tucson in Canada. In cold winter , -15 deg F, the smart cruise control does not work with its sensor malfunction message. I conjecture that cold weather increases the vehicle structure stiffness and it prevents the sensor from functioning properly. Driving highway without cruise control requires a lot of labour by my foot. Another problem of smart cruise control is that the vehicle tries to reduce speed without any vehicle in front of my vehicle. The smart cruise control looks like to see 'Ghost vehicle' . Last one is forward collision avoidance(FCA) system. When it is activated, the vehicle tries to do emergency stop without any vehicle in front, again seeing 'Ghost vehicle'. Overall , Hyundai designers did not consider all weather conditions, producing " poor quality " smart cruise control and FCA system. Old technology , if it is not SMART, looks more reliable and convenient to use in cold Canada weather.

@CarDietrich
@CarDietrich 8 ай бұрын
There isn't any "default" following distance as far as a set number of yards or meters, it varies based on speed. IE the following distance will be longer at 70 MPH than it is at 15 MPH at the same exact setting

My 2023 Tucson with three months of use and 4800 miles has low oil level, I don't know if it is the properties of the oil they use or if it is the engine, I am worried.
@CarDietrich
@CarDietrich 8 ай бұрын
You have a 100k warranty on the engine and transmission, but you MUST be able to prove you had all the services done on time for it to be valid. According to the owners manual, you need to change the oil and filter every 5,000 miles or six months, whichever happens first. I would do that at your Hyundai dealer so they have it on file if there is ever an issue with the engine
