Thanks! I have a wood burning project and I just ran out of wood stain. Have a giant pot of cheap instant coffee granules and now I have a finished box and I didn't need to go to the hardware store.

I used this method on my acoustic guitar today, and it worked incredibly well! I did it in little strips, and after about half an hour of working on it she went from a clean light spruce top to the very rustic antique look that I wanted. Going to put a thin layer of clear satin poly on top of it then it'll be good to go by Thursday. I was really afraid to do the coffee stain at first but your video gave me a little more confidence. Thanks!

I love the way the instant coffee stain looks on the stir sticks. What a great color. And you gave me an idea to use the same stain in distressing some things in our haunted house. Thank you for sharing.

Do you think mixing the coffee grounds with pure alcohol would work? Alcohol would evaporate instantly and leave the wood only with the coffee and would allow using any kind of laquer or varnish etc. since using water-based stain with oil-based finish and so on would not mix.

If it's a large wooden crate I want to use it on, is it even necessary to use a heat gun for it, since the wood isn't flimsy like your dollhouse floor?

is it necessory to use instant coffee

Very nice. I think for wood they use mineral oil which is also baby oil and bees wax in a can in a pan of boiling water like a double boiler. Cute

I like to do a lot of things diy and homemade, hence why I want to use a coffee stain instead of purchasing an expensive stain from the hardware store. Is there anything that can seal it from around the home instead of buying a sealer?

Would you try this on home stairs? Plz say yes haha I really want to try this
@WhereTheGnomesLive4 жыл бұрын
I would, lol but you would definitely need to seal it in. I would suggested a couple coats of sealer over it and I would use a sealer for heavy traffic. And again, the first coat has to go on quickly and lightly, pass over only once so you don't rub off the stain.. also be sure the stain is completely dry first.

Could you use mineral oil to seal it?
@andieymi3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, why the acrylic?
@squigglyline28133 жыл бұрын
Mineral oil is a non-drying oil. If you're looking for a natural oil to seal it perhaps use Tung oil (be sure the bottle says pure), linseed or walnut. Watch out for allergies as these oils come from nuts. And don't wad up your oily rags for the trash as it's a fire hazard.

Why not use acetone instead of water, might prevent warping?
@WhereTheGnomesLive5 жыл бұрын
never tried that before. Thanks for the idea!
@najeyrifai11345 жыл бұрын
No problem. Figured it'd evaporate before it has a chance to kink the wood.

Does the smell of coffee still show up in anyway after the gloss?

yes... a slight coffee smell for a little bit but eventually it fades away
@jimmycasey6400 Жыл бұрын
Would this work on a privacy fence
@WhereTheGnomesLive Жыл бұрын
No, I don’t think so. It needs to be sealed after it dries so on larger surfaces the stain would become streaky, some coming off before you’d be able to seal it properly
@ENNEN4205 жыл бұрын
I just came here to know the process and i have never watched a prior video. Please explain the gnome home in one or two sentences so i may live without the mystery haunting me daily.

can i use mod podge ? to seal it ?

it might be a bit thick and you'd be rubbing off the coffee stain while you apply it, unless you seal it first with the spray like I suggested

any type of instant coffee will stain wood... I don't think regular coffee will give you a rich stain, it would probably give you a light stain lacking in color

You use coffee so your doll house isn't full of chemicals but then you seal it will stuff that can cause cancer???
@WhereTheGnomesLive Жыл бұрын
I had to look at the video again, it’s 7 yrs old so I forgot how I used to seal in coffee. Coffee stain will always be my 1st choice over a chemical wood stain, the smell of actual wood stain is extremely strong even if you do it outside, it lingers so coffee is better for me. The spay sealer was done outside so I didn’t breathe that in and it didn’t linger. I found that to be the lesser of the 2 evils back then. But now a days I seal it with a water based Varathane that has no smell and is soap and water clean up. Of course, as with all my videos, these are ideas only that I share and nothing has to be followed 100%. People can take and leave what they want to.
@K.H.2713 Жыл бұрын
@@WhereTheGnomesLive Any wood wax/oil, or even Modge Podge would do just as good of a job sealing the wood seeing as it is a doll house. The coffee does look good on the floor but for mine I'm going to use some home made black walnut stain I made last year for the creepier Victorian style I want. Wasn't trying to be an ass or anything, just found it odd that you went for the sealants you did.
