If your stitches come out at the end its because at the end of stitching you have to turn fabric over to backside stitches pull out a little stitch loop and tie a knot.

Easy way to avoid this is to lock the thread by going backwards and fowards with machine a few times.

Will this be the same for most hand held sewing machines? And, would you be able to just place the device on a surface and feed the fabric through?

All the brands I've seen look the same (looking into this due to an advertisement), but it seems that stitching with this kind of machine more often than not results in stitching that is not straight and/or does not follow the seam. I reckon it's the same when you put it down on a surface, although you may be able to pull it off if you use some strong double-sided tape underneath (or epoxy the entire contraption). I'd also draw a line on that push lever (that keeps the fabric down) to at least have an idea where the stitching is going. Not a replacement for a full sewing machine, but in a pinch (storage, budget or otherwise) I guess it'll work for simple stuff.

tisugirl I just broke one, trying to pull up the plate...now the plate is loose and won’t hold the fabric in place...mind you, I just took it out of the box lol (Different brand though)

It looks easy and ive tried this but found that after youve done the sewing, the thread very easily becomes undone from the fabric.... isnt it meant to hold itself in place like normal sewing?

Mine had the same problem. Your needle may be set too high in the top. Lower the needle a little. make sure to tighten the needle in and try it.

I have my machine threaded correctly and it started out fine every time I would try to use it but I would only be able to get about 4 inches in (tops) and it would no longer sew. The thread would break from the needle, I have no idea why.

Gio owen just drag the stitches back and forth on the cloth end it will strengthen the stitches you won’t need to close the end with any knots

I have this, it worked for about 3 foot of sewing....it never sewed again, the thread won't sew it's threaded correctly goes through the fabric, but it never threads
