You shift wayyyyyy to early lmao and also side note you can put it in first and floor it, if you redline it, it will auto upshift even in sport. the car wont let you hurt its self.

You can't hurt an automatic transmission, it will adjust as necessary, manual transmissions are a different story.

For anyone driving in sport with paddles, please don't put it in 6th at 30 mph. You just make your car slower. If you want it to accelerate as quick as possible and have the most torque, you have to keep the rpms in the "power band". For these cars it has not been clear from what I have been looking for, but it should be around 4,000-6,000 rpms. Through shifting you want to keep your rpms in that range as much as you can. From this video I learned that the downshifting is done for you when you stop which is what I wanted to know. I also like that there is no way you can redline the car because I am to scared of putting too much of a strain on the engine and transmission .

the strain would mostly be on the torque converter which has been beefed up by Honda. Similar design to ZF torque converters multi plate clutch

My new Camry has paddle shifters. I wanted a 5 speed manual, was told it wasn't available. You explain how this works well. I prefer to brake my speed by downshifting, sneaking up on lights, being in the right gear for the getaway. I will test it next time I go out. Thanks again for your explanation!

Paddle shifters excellent for engine braking which is safe way to slow down on icy roads! Don’t brake on ice, use the down paddle shifter to ‘engine brake’ and slow down without sliding.

I always drive in S mode in my 2012 3.5 tl and I use the paddle shifter all the times,you can always be in the right gear and also engine brake wich save your brakes a lot.In d mode,it always look to be in the most economic gear wich gets frustrating a lot.

Basically, it gives you the idea that you're changing gears but what it really does is adjust the torque/Rpms to give you a little more control. I've only used it for quicker overtaking.

For good acceleration the CVT and computer is just not good at making it fun to drive. Whenever I give the car some gas the rpms just fly right past the power band or stay at too low of rpms for better fuel economy. The paddles allow you to control the rpms to stay in the power band.

I’m only getting 17-19 mpg and it’s very frustrating 😔 can someone please explain why? I drive in a city that’s filled with stop and go traffic and sometimes 5 minute stops while in traffic before you can creep to stop again. What can I do to improve this? Also does the engine oil viscosity have a lot to do with achieving the advertised mpg? This is a 2016 Honda Accord sport

the paddle shifters only come in the sport package the normal accords have sport mode on the transmission but no paddle shifters

First of all you were shifting way too early and secondly, is there anything that can potentially jack up the car? Can I upshift/downshift too early/late and damage the car or am I good getting comfortable with it? I'm actually surprised the new Accords have these. I bought my first car (a 2007 Acura RL) and I was really surprised that a car such as it has paddle shifters.

+Alex Gomez Great question Alex, It all depends on your desired speed. If you are looking at a higher speed you will want to shift at a high rpm. But if you are looking at a lower speed you will want to shift at a low rpm. Let me know if that helped.

Simple Frankie Your accord sport has a CVT transmission, there are no gears technically. So using paddle shifters is simply retarded on a CVT.

You look at your rpms...as soon as the car starts making that sound like it wants to go faster but it cant, thats when u shift up especially out of 1st to 2nd. Shifting up is the easy part. its the downshifting that usually confuses people. Thats why I just stick to automatics. I deal with too much traffic and too many cops where I live to effectively have great driving experience

Hey guys I just got this car. A few clarifications again. You shouldnt use paddle shifters during drive mode because there is really no point right? Also in drive you can shift automatically but it also brings it down automatically right? For sport mode, paddle shifters can use for accelerating and it goes down automatically right? When do u shift from 1-2-3-4-5-6? Does it depend on your speed? Someone told me if youre going 40mph u should be at shift 4

Hey man I have a EX-L V6 sedan and I love it but there is one thing that I hate and is that it doesn't have paddle shifters like the sport or the coupe Would I be able to put the paddle shifters from a coupe 3.5 V6 in my sedan since they have the same engine??

+Steven Herrera Any mod is possible but its up to you: who does the mod, what parts you use etc. I believe it can be done but then again sourcing the parts and making sure they work properly will be difficult.

Also threw me off that this car had paddle shifters, I just wanted the sport trim because of the rims and the suspension. A little surprising goody from it. Sure it’s a cvt but once you set it in sport and put it in “manual”, mountain roads can get quite addicting.... too addicting 0_o

How to use paddle shifters: Step 1-learn how to ride a bike Step 2-learn how to drive Step 3-have fun I cannot go back to a fully automatic car. Drives me crazy when it doesn't change gears when I want it to. Fully manual transmission is the best experience IMO

I kept trying to put the car in neutral or switch gears and then I realize theres no clutch x.x 5-replace the clutch and transmission. 6-don't pop the clutch or grind gears or take your rpm into the red

Kevin Cu No you just tap the right side paddle to set it into 1st from a dead stop. If the car is already moving and you switch to sport mode the moment you use either side's paddle it will either downshift or upshift from the "gear" it should be in according to the computer at that mph.

I have 2014 accord coupe v6 6 speeds automatic. Not CVT. and when I put it in sport mode and use paddle shifters it will not let me drive on first gear even if I'm going slow it always pick up the 2nd gear then wait for me to up shift. Unless I'm at a full stop I can down shift to first but once i lift my foot from the breaks and the car start to roll with no throttle it will change to second then I have to upshift

go up a long winding road were you as a driver can anticipate how much power you need. paddle shifters work well.

You would better search and lean what does "tiptronic" and "manual shifting" means in a automatic gear boxes. Using paddle shifters in D mode is just the same as regular D + a up gear limit which you set. But in sport mode while using padle shifters you see a "M" appears on the screen which means now you are in a manual mode!

nope,you can either drive normally like in D mode or use the paddleshifter but the difference is in s mode it will stay in the gear you selected unless you come to a full stop wich will downshift by itself.

is it possible to downshift to utilize the engine braking while in drive mode?

Yes you are able to do that.

Interestingly, on my Toyota Corolla, the owners manual says specifically that the paddle shifters are for engine braking. It gives no mention about how to use them for normal, everyday, non-engine-braking driving.
