Superb video again, and so clear Paul - thank you! Would love to attend one of your courses. I drive for the Fire Service (part-time) and got my Class 2 in 2013. I have just taken my 5 x periodic CPC modules to get my DQC and find some Class 2 commercial work. I would like to look into doing HIAB, ADR and once I have driven Class 2 commercially for a little while, take my Class 1. I hear that the government are bringing in Skills Bootcamps, including Class 1 that are free from approved providers from Nov / Dec 2021 to address the shortages - I don't' suppose you will be offering these would you? Hello, thanks for making a informative and no nonsense video. I do have one question related to the use of the chain in the video, you state using a ratchet strap you can identify its load capacity and test date by label, does a similar system exist for the use of chains to secure loads? Thanks in advance.

Hi I find your videos very helpful, I'm doind my cpc module 4 in couple of weeks, at the moment we don't need to know the dolly knot?.. Can we just choose de straps instead?
@NationalDrivingCentre
@NationalDrivingCentre 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your comments and questions. The reason we don't need to know Dolly knot anymore is companies are not allowed to use rope to secure a load, the reason being is the rope is not load tested, it has not been inspected and has no date of birth. For this reason a ratchet strap or chains it's going to be the best method to secure a load. 👍👍

Yes, Obviously if you was securing a vehicle then you would need to use change on the shackle pins in a criss-cross formation at the front and rear of the vehicle. And then using the ratchet to close attention as shown. 👍👍

Precisely, that is what he did wrong. He is showing an unrealistic securing of a load. You would hardly ever loop a chain and secure it from the bottom, that is just nuts!!! Hence, for me, that is a FAIL.

Question, can I apply one end of the chain ratchet to the chain and the other end directly to the lashing point?
@NationalDrivingCentre
@NationalDrivingCentre 2 ай бұрын
In a way, yes because you have a shortening link within the chain, it would be challenging and the chain would be a little bit too long. The hooks themselves are more designed to carry out a choke hold around a component. Consult your company is safe systems of work with regards to securing there are loads. 👍👍👍

how do you secure sheets on tipper trucks? do you use ratchet straps too or ropes?
@NationalDrivingCentre
@NationalDrivingCentre 11 ай бұрын
So sorry when you say sheets, what do you mean? This would most likely be ratchet strap as part of all companies safe systems of work there should be no rope used anymore because no six monthly checks are carried out (due to a lack of identification number), we don't know the age of the rope or what condition it's potentially in. 👍 therefore, rope is not a safe, securing method.

Interesting I’ve just passed my rigid and I was shown the dolly knot. I said not many people use rope anymore, The training provider explained its best to know a dolly knot because it’s a “dying art” and you’d have better chance of employment over other candidates. I’ve never seen a load secured with rope so I just didn’t want to learn it. Especially on a flat bed it’s mainly ratchet straps.
@NationalDrivingCentre
@NationalDrivingCentre 2 жыл бұрын
Very true Adam if VOSA/DVSA or Traffic police see you securing a load with rope you will be in trouble and potentially fined. Thank God it's a dying art because it should not be used anymore, the only people who need to know how to do a story not should be people with boats. Thank you so much for your comment Adam.👍👍👍

That chain tying doesn't look right . . .
@NationalDrivingCentre
@NationalDrivingCentre 6 ай бұрын
Possibly not, but that's because were using a test rig and not an actual load. Obviously if the load was present on the vehicle, we could then demonstrate the correct technique, but that is not part of the test. This is just to demonstrate the actual product. For example, the ratchet mechanism or the chain ratchet mechanism. But thank you so much for your comment. 👍
