Learning more about return tracks has been super beneficial to my work flow inside of Ableton! In this video I will show how I use return tracks for recording and working with vocals inside of ableton!

Thank you so much! Luckily I have a job where I actively teach a lot so it translate to the content I’m trying to make. Have been making tutorials and music production vlogs of the tracks we are working on. I think the quality of videos have improved a lot! Let me know what you think if you check any of the new ones out!

I would love you to do a video on making a great vocal chain - what are the considerations and what do we need to make vocals sound great
@siahwya2 жыл бұрын
This is something i am working on myself as of right now. Currently i am using the stock vocal chain template that Kenny Beats gave out in his discord. Once I learn enough about it I will happily make a video on it!

Thanks for the tutorial! How about the volume of the track in the final master? Because in your video you didn't change the Output Type of your track, which means that the audio is amplified by the Send to the return track. Essentially you have Audio Track --> Master but also Audio Track --> Return Track --> Master . Also, how about the possibility of selecting "Sends Only" for the Output Type of the Audio Track and simply maximizing the Send volume of the track, so that everything comes from the Return Track? Thank you!

Great video!! But I have one question... I just had an H delay in one of my return tracks, and I exported it in audio but I don’t hear my delay feedbacks, do you know how to fix this issue
@tossowain89633 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this! This Is pretty much what I've been doing when putting tracks into a group and putting the chain on the group. Just wondering if there is any difference in this method to using a return..? I'm guessing it's just being able to dial in the DB
@siahwya3 жыл бұрын
Yep you got it! That’s the only thing I’ve seen to be the biggest benefit! If I’m using the same chain over and over but I want to apply it at different levels, almost as using the wet/dry knobs. I see this a lot when working with vocals. With delays and reverbs and at different timings or spaces. If imma be sending it over and over it’s gonna be nice to have that distinction between a group and an individual track getting the effect

Don’t groups do the same thing ?
@alberto-martino3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this! Why not using Groups for that purpose? They seem to be more practical, are they less efficient?
@irc14143 жыл бұрын
i have the same question ...
@siahwya3 жыл бұрын
So here’s my thinking when it comes to groups/returns. If there’s a certain thing I want to use multiple times I’m gonna want to have it in a return track. For instance if I’m recording vocals I’ll have several return tracks set up with specific reverbs or delays that I’ll want to send to. But I might want to send from the main track differently then a set of backgrounds. Or maybe I’ll want to differentiate in a way that would take more cpu power if I just set up groups and copy and pasted the same plugin to several tracks. I hope that makes sense!
@alberto-martino3 жыл бұрын
@@siahwya I've never thought of it this way, but it definitely makes sense! I'm gonna try make use of return tracks from now on... Thanks again 🙏🏼

@TheApostleofRock4 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't the same thing be accomplished by putting your vocal chain on a bus? You still avoid having multiple instances of the same chain. I'm trying to understand reasons to use sends that are unique to sends. I know a lot of people set up reverbs and delays on sends, but I'm not certain why. I can see perhaps the use of having a send for something that you use periodically throughout a session. But I suppose technically you could automate that given plugin being on or off.
@siahwya4 жыл бұрын
I think for myself the speed and ability to mix the volume of the affect, almost like a wet and dry knob, are the reasons why I find myself using them. Being able to quickly slide a knob on any track that routes to a reverb/delay/effect that I have prearranged allows me to move faster in experimenting. Whatever allows you to be creative without slowing you down is what I would shoot for!

hi sir, i hope u and yr family are safe, sir i want to learn how to add reverb while u record your own vocal (in the headphone u get that effect only not to be applied that in original track) in ableton live, please sir reply, i have searched a lot but didnt get any suitable video regarging these.
@siahwya2 жыл бұрын
Hey there my friend! Would love to try to help you out. Having a little trouble understanding exactly what you are trying to accomplish. I haven't finished my coffee yet so that could explain things haha. Are you saying you want the actual track that is then recorded to have the revert inside of it? As in the reverb not coming from the plugins but printed to the track?
@bidhanry97402 жыл бұрын
@@siahwya simply, when I will record my vocals, in my headphones the reverb effect will be there. But it should not apply to the recording as I only need the raw version.

Why don't you use groups? The method that you showed is not entirely correct, since you do not process the original signal, but simply overlay the processed signal on top of the raw one.
@JDNicoll3 жыл бұрын
This doesn't explain the volume add you get with return tracks though.
