Fun fact Riki’s hp was originally supposed to be the lowest of the party. In one test build they accidentally made it really high and testers loved it so they kept.

One important thing about Yoink! is the fact that it can steal stats from the enemy. It’s possible to steal HP, Strength, Ether, Agility, and AP or EXP (once you unlock the respective skills for them) and also item drops. If it hits a stat, it’ll increase that stat by 10% (maximum increase to Riki's stat is 50%) while decreasing the enemy’s by 10% as well (enemy can lose a maximum of 30% for Strength, 30% for Ether, and 50% for Agility). What makes this significant is that the buffs will last until either Riki is incapacitated or the battle ends, and the debuff will last indefinitely as well unless removed by Say Sorry. That means you can potentially Yoink! a bunch of stats and permanently hinder the enemy for the rest of the battle while giving Riki some pretty substantial increases. Also if it hits HP, it’ll heal Riki for 50% of his max HP while dealing the same amount healed as damage.

I'm a fan of stacking debuffs and then using say sorry with max chain attack boost because it can delete health bars lmfao

Riki is probably the most flexible character. He can work with pretty much any party, can be built to do Physical or Ether damage (or a mix of both), has multiple support options and debuffs, and also has one of the best auras in the game Hero Time.

A cool fact that makes Hero Time even better: in DE, you lose tension not only if your attack misses or is blocked, but if your debuffs are resisted. I.e., Shulk uses Air Slash, doesn't break the enemy, his tension is lowered. So that's another reason to use it.

Spamming ailments -> Bedtime -> Guaranteed critical Say Sorry is one of my favorite enormous damage combos in any RPG. I've actually soloed some boss battles with Riki by letting the DoT run over the duration of Sleep and then using Say Sorry right at the end for mega burst damage.

When I first started back on Wii I made Riki my tank. Riki is angry, lots of aggro up for Riki and stealth arts/autos for the team. Riki just goes in, casts a bunch of debuffs, say sorry, while under Riki is angry and I dunno... I just wiped out everything almost. I know I wasn't optimal but I loved making a fluff ball like Riki be my big tank boi. He is one of my favorites and has some of the best dialog with the team. Sharla, Riki, and Melia has to be one of my favorites.

Your character guides have been really helpful because now I actually know what I should do because in my play through I didn’t know how to use Riki so I had 3 of his 4 red arts on at all times.

Personally, I have put all my running gems on Ricky and then use him for exploration. There is just something extremely satisfying to see someone with super short legs outrun everyone else in the party.

I played Xenoblade on the Wii and got up to the seventh party member joining but I never quite understood the combat or how to properly equip and use characters so I dropped it out of frustration. When I decided to try Definitive Edition now that I'm much older your guides really helped me understand how to build characters. Since unlocking Riki he's quickly become my favourite. He reminds me of a Bard with his support skills and while he doesn't do amazing DPS, he's still so useful.

Play Dead is actually really useful for canceling visions though. That’s how I use it most of the time.

Now that every character guide is done, it would be interesting to have a quick runthrough of good options for AI partners. Specifically, how to get the AI to do good things with each character. It seems quite hard to get AI Melia to do what you want for example.

I love Riki. He adds exactly all the fun stuff to the game: Yoink to steal, DoT arts of all kind, a skill based healing art and some party gauge boosts to have fun with chain attacks.

I'm SUPER glad you made a guide on how to use Riki since I just started using him today and was wondering what I should be investing the most into when it comes to his arts. So far I'm a fan of him since he can heal and support almost as well as Sharla, but isn't as limited and can still deal decent damage without having to use a gimmick set-up.

I find tantrum very good for combo scaling. At 4 chain it’s can do a ton of damage to groups.

Now that you've finished your character guides, I have an idea that could be interesting for future videos. In some ocasions through this guides you have mentioned how certain arts or set ups don't really work if the character is AI controlled. That's why I think it would be very helpful to talk about how to build the different characters so that the AI can use them as effectively as possible.

Nice video. Riki is definitely a Xenoblade hero. Noticed you have Riki geared for endgame and ether arts, but earlier on he makes a serviceable ether tank for Shulk- or Melia-led teams, just need to gear more defensively, add-in an Aggro Up gem and Riki is Angry aura.

Riki is my favorite character, he's the only one I never switch out because he fits every comp so well. I hate his voice but he's probably my favorite character to use. Reminds me of from Pokemon back in the day, just fat, poisoning, burning or freezing you and stalling you out while healing itself lol.

But yes maybe Ether Riki is better when you are lvl 99 and at superboss lvl, but Physical Riki is early on in the game in my opinion way better especially at areas like sword valley and on the whole Mechonis, but INDEED later on, is this a better option. But Riki is some kind of all around character, you can pretty do anything with him what you want, he only doesnt have a daze art but i dont think that would be that necessery for him. Personally, I don’t care if he’s powerful, Riki in my opinion is one of the most fun.

It's disappointing that my favorite character (Sharla) is constantly the one character everyone acts like they don't want on the team. I really think her concept is neat and it's frustrating that everyone throws her off the team like garbage. 🥺😭 Its upsetting that Monolith didn't just scrap the overheat mechanic.

Why do I have a sudden urge to play volleyball with Riki as the ball?

You overlook Riki's Yoink ability. For enemies 10 levels or higher against Riki, he only steals stats of the enemy. Those debuffs last all battle. I put on Glory Gauntlets and Talent Boost. It fills up very quick. The enemy can suffer a hilarious -50% agility. A few other things to note: Riki does not require Enlightenment if he attacks from the back. Surprisingly his 50% accuracy skill behind enemies also weirdly accounts Ether accuracy. Peekaboo is a pretty solid art. Low cooldown and same base damage as Say Sorry. I do use Ether arts on Riki, but I prefer specializing more in physical Riki. He can chain better with other members and can make more use of those def down debuffs, especially with spamming Yoink.

Yoink is also another source of debuffs. Riki can steal stats from enemies and add them to his own. He can also do a lifesteal equal to half his max HP, or lower enemy strength, ether, or agility and raise his own stat by the same amount, 10% at a time, up to 30 or 50%, 30 for strength and ether and 50 for agility. What's very notable about Yoink debuffs is that they are PERMANENT. Which means they could help squeeze out extra damage in a huge max power Say Sorry.

Riki was the one character i really didn’t get in most rpg games debuffs like poison are well bad so i just ignored riki mostly i cause o he dies a bunch of weak damage over time debuffs. I was wrong very wrong im gonna use him now. Fun fact in my game riki has absolutely no affinity with anyone

Something not mentioned in the video is that Yoink! actually has a chance of stealing enemy stats, incurring permanent debuffs to the enemy and a permanent buff to Riki according to the stat "stolen."(Permanent in refernce to the stats in battle, of course) The effect is only 10%, but it can actually be stacked with itself, for, say 50% agility buff/debuff. Granted, no battle should take long enough to accumulate that, but I think its funny that it's a possibility.

I run Say Sorry over Behave on player-controlled Riki with Seventh in the party to paralyse enemies, that way it's used as a nuke in chain attacks.

Aggro Up and Spike gems + Riki Is Angry is a fun meme strat I used in an older playthrough.

It should be noted that Bedtime also puts Riki to sleep unless you have a sleep resist or debuff resist gem equipped. I used to use it to help get affinity with Riki by waking him up when he puts himself to sleep.

Quick question, I thought the max number of affinity coins you can get in one playthrough was 255, but in these videos you have over 300, is there some method to gain extra affinity coins that you’ve been using? The skill links setup that you are showing off wouldn’t be possible unless you were on new game plus.

So I just wanted to tell y´all a cool trick I thought of just today. So I was in Biology class and realized to myseld "Wow, this kinda works like the Bionis" so I got way more interested into the subjet. Also Riki´s talent art has *the best* name

riki could be like the worse party member in the game and id still speed run the game to when he joins the party and make him the leader frame 1 because... *its riki* also the talent art is callled yoink and that proves that xenoblade has the best localization of any video game ever

I would just like to say damn you enel for making these guides. Now that I understand how to play each character in the game, the game's difficulty seems so trivial now. From getting beaten by on level enemies to now having to fight yellow or red coded enemies to even have a challenge. Please detect the intense sarcasm enel and I'm serious btw I only played casually before and didn't really understand how chains worked or how to craft gems effectively or how characters work, now that I do I'm purposely lowering my level to where I'm fighting nothing but yellow or red coded enemies or else it's too easy. As an additional SP farming guide I've also found Agniritha a little bit better of one there are tons of mechon near the townscape area and if you use dunaban, shulk and reyn you can make short work of them while getting tons of SP for it. And I've found that if you're brave enough to go through the main game purposely lowering your level you can actually gain enough SP without having to farm for it. From the start of Agniritha to fighting Egil I maxed out an entire skill tree for all characters with only farming a little.

I really liked Ricky during my playthrough, he gets extra items and he can put himself to sleep for easy extra affinity.

I come from germany and heres a funfact: I play the game obviosly on german and some art names are really funny "play dead" ist "Riki dead!" or "happy-happy!" Mayer you can Look about it somewhere this is absoluteley funny.

Hi Enel! Great guides, enjoyed watching them. Definitely learned the value of DoT Melia over a Summon Bolt focus (which I used during my naive first run with the Wii version). I'll start a new playthrough soon and I'm curious to see how well it will play out throughout the story of the game. I'm close to finishing Future Connected and I'll give it a go there too, now that I've got some Poison an Chill Plus gems. There was one thing that kept me thinking about your guides, specifically regarding skill links. Some skills (usually 0-5 per character) target the Battle Party. Do we know if these skills stack with themselves? For example, if Shulk is in the party and has Cheer of a Friend and another character in the Battle Party links it, do you get more Party Gauge from Burst Affintiy? If they don't stack, then it's definitely not worth linking Battle Party skills from current party members. Or linking the same Battle Party skill onto two current party members. Luckily, there aren't that many of them and most of them aren't terribly useful. It does, however, highlight certain niche party features of the character that has the skill to begin with and scopes the extent to which parties without the character can benefit from it.

All of these guides are super awesome and helpful! Could you make a guide on how to grind for the more annoying achievements, like happy new year and the 500 revives? With how much detail you put in these videos, I'm sure it would help a lot of people, myself included.
