Well I have two s1s and an Avid Dock and I want to get a UC-1 now to go with the s1s, for sure! It's not a comparison so much as a complimentary piece to go along with the s1, since this layout is so much easier to work with than the s1 horizontal encoders. Of course with the s1, you don't need overlaying software like SSL is required to do, since the s1 uses Eucon and has direct access to Pro Tools. I also have a Midi Fighter Twister which is amazing, but Avid once again puts barriers in place to where we have the 8-parameter-per-page limit with MIDI controllers (although there is a third-party work-around that isn't robust). This UC-1 gives us a robust solution that lets us replace the Midi Fighter Twister in a Pro Tools environment - then we can stick with the s1/dock setup for everything else.

thank you for the thoughtfull explanation always considered grabbing a ssl uc-1 or s1 but not sure how much it would optimize mixing in protools, currently doing hybid on a ssl desk but was thinking of adding a s1 in the mix @@SomebodyPickaName

@@SomebodyPickaName If you're using pro tools, you may be disappointed.... EUCON (avid's proprietary control protocol) doesn't work at the same time as Mackie Control (needed to make the SSL gear work in pro tools ). I tried to use my dock with my UF-8.... it was a no go. Sold the dock and bought a UC-1.
