My husband backed up to our hot pellet stove & his robe fabric burnt on to the outside of the glass 🥴. We tried everything…your steel wool & windex got most of it off!! Thank you so much!!

My dad's 🔥 fireplace door's hadn't been cleaned in 17 years. This did the trick. I will admit I had to do it twice. Thank you so very much.

Thank you for sharing! I paid $8 for a cleaner that was specifically for water spots on glass after using PLENTY of elbow grease with Windex and even Lime-Away (very carefully). I even tried using a razor blade to remove the crazy amount of spotting - it helped but didn't fully remove the spotting. Cannot wait to try this.

Excellent. Works very well, and also cleans up the inside metal trim.

I’ve used SOS pads for years to clean my fireplace doors. Simple, fast & no…doesn’t scratch the glass. It surprises me how many people still are employing the vinegar method!

Been doing this all my life! I can't believe people don't know about it--it's common sense, isn't it?! lol But thank you for the video. I was a little concerned that it might hurt my glass, so I did learn that it will NOT hurt the glass. Great video!

Judging by how many "Fire Place Glass Cleaning" sprays are sold on Amazon, I don't think it's as common knowledge as we thought. ;-)

After using steel wool for years, we are now using damp kitchen roll plus wood ash from the ashpan. Quick easy and almost free.

One of the things that the steel wool trick is really good for is removing water spots from car windshields. Works great. Old detailing trick. Same principle as cleaning the fire glass.

When you used the steel wool, what grade wool did you use? We have spent more than an hour on our glass this morning using the newspaper (actually packing paper) and ash. Maybe it will go faster next time, the glass was pretty bad, but can't help wondering if the steel wool approach is safe - what was your experience? Thanks.

@@davebean2886 Grade #0000 steel wool is what I use. Use it all the time. Most of the time i just keep using the same pad over and over again. I just leave it on the tray in front of the stove. Works great. Doesn't damage the glass at all. Been doing it for years and years.

I use straight ammonia and a paper towel, it comes clean very fast. No need to scrub, it just wipes off.

I think I have more than soot built up on my window, ash and water isn't working so I'll try the steel wool next. Thanks for the vid!

I am making headway with the ash and water, but took an hour for pretty dirty windows. Not sure about the steel wool yet but looking into it.

This is exactly how the manual that came with my new stove says to clean it.

I posted a video a couple years ago doing this, with no spray, and while the stove is hot. The creosote comes right off when the glass is hot

I have wondered about how the temperature of the glass might effect, but didn't want to put a cold liquid on the glass. Will look into this. Thanks.

I tried windex and 0000 steel wool - worked better than anything else I've tried so far!!!...UNTIL I used ammonia in a spray bottle. Works MUCH better than glass-cleaner!!

I would use a razor blade in a steel holder to scrape the soot off. Worked awesome and did not need any liquid. The trick was to get the right scrapping angle.

I have just #000 Steel wool. The kind of which I purchased it was the most datalied . It is no less. This will not scratch the glass?n Pls answer for me! Thanks.
@WheeliePete7 жыл бұрын
It should work. Just test it in a small corner of the glass to make sure before you start on the larger surface.
@davebean28864 жыл бұрын
I think there is finer steel wool - at least #0000 - If I try, will start with the finest that I can find. images.homedepot-static.com/productImages/91948d4c-f05f-46a4-82ab-b87529826917/svn/homax-steel-wool-10121110-6-e1_1000.jpg

I just got schooled by my grandma, she grabbed a wet paper towel, dipped it in the leftover ashes and scrubbed the glass clean in seconds.

Steel wool is the way to go dude ash will work but will scratch your glass in time✌

Sometimes I find that if the fire gets hot enough, it'll actually burn the soot off the glass.

The inverse also works-I clean my steel wool by scrubbing it with glass : )
