Good job! Another great technique to build emotional tension for great hymns of praise, is the use of pedalpoint. In the pedal, Hold the dominant of the hymn key under the entire first stanza until you come to the point where the harmonization lands on the dominant. Can also be used in the last stanza, before a resolution to the tonic. Pedal point has been used in organ and orchestral music for centuries to signify the “end is near” (of the music, that is 🤪) as the psychological effect it creates with the simple tension and release can be very effective. It is similar to your point on suspended chords. The suspension creates tension which is then resolved. Tension and resolution are very effective in music psychology particularly in film scoring. I wish church musicians would use it more to be more effective in creating the numinous during the worship experience, so thank you for bringing it up and showing how to use it.

Very very inspiring and educative. I have 1 question: how do you practice your hymns? Is it by sightreading or improvising? I asked because I see you mostly not using music sheets. I like this way of your playing. Great video.

@@thunderfire5793Thank you for your comment. My style for playing hymns is improvisation. I start by using the book harmony as reference and building everything else on top of it.
