I had no idea what the BSR was for. I just got my first Bernina (770 QE+) at QuiltCon in February 2024. Now, I can't wait to try it. You have an amazing ability to explain and demonstrate these functions. Thank you so much!

Bernina should clone you. They would never be able to keep up with sales. 50 years sewing with Berninas and having attended hundreds of classes including many BU’s. You really give a good understandable lesson. Thanks.

The BSR is not only “training wheels” for inexperienced free motion quilters, but it is also an irreplaceable tool for experienced and more advanced quilters as well, especially when stitch perfection counts. I’m an advanced free motion quilter and consider the BSR a “sweet little gem” in my toolbox!

I bought the 820QE in 2012 and tried unsuccessfully to like the BSR. I bought the 770QE in 2017 and tried unsuccessfully to like the BSR. Gail, you have completely changed my hate affair with the BSR to a gee-I-think-I'm-going-to-fall-in-love-with-my-BSRs!!!!! Your video and your presentation is 10 stars out of a 5 star recommendation. You CLEARLY demonstrate and explain the BSR and you CLEARLY demonstrate how easy it is to use the BSR. I sewed along with you on a practice piece and had GREAT success. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! After I finished practicing along with you, I jumped right in to the project I was working on and am so very pleased with my BSR/FMQ results. Normally, I would have set up my Janome 8900 and done the FMQing on that machine. Again, thank you, Gail, for an excellent KZfaq video! Linda from North Dakota

I was trying to free motion and I couldn't get the bottom right, too loose. So I broke down and used the BSR for the first time and I couldn't believe how nice the stitches were even for using it as a novice and going to fast with it screaming at me. The quilting looked great

Love your videos, I have learned soooo much about my 770QE and watch your tutorials over and over to learn about settings and other techniques. I love the BSR, BUT when I use mode 2 on the BSR, I always get a big stitch first when I start it, then it works fine. For this reason, I only use modes 1 and 3(for basting only, obviously). Any hints on how to stop and start using mode 2 without getting the giant 'toe snatcher' stitch every time I start up again after a stop to change directions ?
@BERNINAofNaperville
@BERNINAofNaperville Жыл бұрын
The king stitch is because wen the machine is at rest, it takes a hot minute to “wake up” the BSR when it is in mode 2. Mode 2 is really for training and discovering how the foot works. I never use it when I’m actually quilting

When I use my BSR on 2, it sounds like gears grinding when I sew side to side. Does it hurt the foot to skip ahead, pulling your thread out to reach the next area to be quilted. IE to skip over an area that doesn’t need quilting, stretching the thread. I hope this makes sense 🫣

Is there a certain needle size we should use with the SR?
@BERNINAofNaperville
@BERNINAofNaperville 2 жыл бұрын
Needle size is dependent on what you are sewing through. For quilting, choose a quilting needle. If only going through plain fabric on top and bottom with batting, size 75 should do. If you are stitching over a greater thickness and lots of seams, try a size 90.

Hi there. B770 QE, no upgrade. I’m trying to get the nerve to FMQ my first top!! 👌 My regulator foot seems to be sitting right on the plate-without my quilt below it. Once my top is in place, I can hardly move it. How do I adjust that? I’ve tried the hover, the middle setting is not enough, and the high is too high.
@BERNINAofNaperville
@BERNINAofNaperville 2 жыл бұрын
Try adjusting your presser foot pressure. There is no height adjustment for the BSR foot otherwise.
@elyseeverett6569
@elyseeverett6569 2 жыл бұрын
Perhaps you've got this figured out by now, but to make it easier to move the quilt, you need a large smooth surface. I use a product called the Supreme Slider for this. The pressure of the presser foot can be finely adjusted. The default setting is 50 but I lower mine to 40. Gloves make a big difference, flannel is hard to move and (I don't care what anyone says) large quilts are very hard to handle on a domestic machine.

@@elyseeverett6569 thank you so much for your recommendations. This tutorial was strictly for the BERNINA products, not an endorsement for after market products. And I always say that if you get a room full of quilters they all will provide 900 ways to do something.
