Bring espresso drinks to your home without the fuss of a complicated espresso machine with the Bialetti Brikka Moka Pot. This stovetop espresso maker requires only coffee, water, and a hot surface to brew delicious espresso. Steam some milk and you can make yourself a latte or flat white.
The Bialetti Brikka’s patented dual valve system regulates water pressure to ensure that the coffee is rich in flavour, but not overpowering or weak. An open hole designed into the lid allows air to swirl above the brewing coffee to form velvety cream. This cream is the result of coffee oils trapping air and is the mark of quality espresso.
The 2 Cup Brikka has a boiler capacity of 100 ml and brews up to 60 ml of espresso. The 4 Cup Brikka has a 200 ml boiler and can brew closer to 140 ml of espresso. Pick the size that’s right for you. With either size, the whole process takes less than five minutes.
The aluminum alloy espresso maker is durable and beautiful. The acrylic handle and lid knob are easy to handle, even when the device is very hot. We suggest cleaning with warm water and soap, but advise against the dishwasher or using steel wool.
The Bialetti Brikka is an all aluminium stovetop espresso maker, or you may refer to it as a Stovetop Percolator with one difference It has an additional
weight to the top of the brewing spout that increases the pressure whilst brewing capable of making a crema like foam that sits on the top of your espresso
The Brikka Moka Pot is a great brewer to make a strong coffee that's full of crema
Brikka Moka Pots are compatible with Gas, electrical.
They come in a two cup & four cup size.First weight out and grind your beans..Today I’m using the Welhome Grinder and I’ll use the filter Basket to measure out my beans you’ll never get it wrong this way ..but in weighing your coffee the basket holds approximately 40grams.
You want to grind your coffee to a fine grind. Nothing too coarse But not as fine espresso either.Place the grounds in the basket and I’ll flatten down the
grinds gently with a back of a spoon to create a smooth surface.
Next fill up the top chamberWith warm water to just cover the water gauge
And decant that in to the Bottom water vessel.
It’s important notTo just fill this Bottom vessel up to the pressure gauge as you Would with other Moka Pots As this will be too much water for the Brikka and effect the End result.
It’s best to use heated water to fill the vessel as this will speed up the whole brew time though and make your coffee less bitter.
Place the filter basket on top Ensuring now the surface around the rim is free of any grounds we want it to make a nice seal when we Connect the water vessel to To the brew chamber.
Next place it on the stove Ideally on a medium heat As this will allow the Water to slowly brew Up and through the coffee.
It will start off slow and speed up at the end and you’ll know when it is done
as the water will begin spurting out, It should take a total time of 4 mins
or so to finish brewing you don’t want to leave it on the stoveFor too long after that So Turn off your heat and pour out your coffee into your cups.
I enjoy my coffee straight black but Of Course they are the perfect coffee to add some milk for a delicious flat white.
In cleaning the unit, wait for it to cool down , And you can rinse it under cold water To speed this process up. Once it is cool, Unscrew the top, remove the filter basket and Tap out the grinds - so long as everything is cold,
I find blowing on the end of the funnel gets the grinds out very easily., rinse everything under the water and it’s really important to keep everything Completely dry if you want to avoid any oxidation of the aluminium or build up of burnt coffee. Storing the top seperate to the Bottom will protect the Seal for longer

I've been using a Brikka 4 for a few years, and I can recommend less coffee - around 24-28 grams - never tamp it, if it overflows the basket just discard or keep to use later. If it's too bitter and has sediment left - grind coarser, if it's too sour and thin - grind finer. A bit less water also makes the coffee a bit more espresso-like.

The Brikka is a absolute marvel! I haven't been to a cafe since I have got the brew technique right. It has saved me an absolute fortune. I discovered to no tamp the grounds, just overfill the basket and flatten with a knife, no need to pre boil water either. I only have been using the package pre grounded supermarket coffee and have been getting more crema than in video. That's how the Italians buy their coffee! But I'm very happy with the Brikka and see no need in buying a coffee machine!

I'm a 20 year Brikka user of both the 2 and 4 cup units. I can pass on these tips: use slightly less water than the line indicated. Cold filtered water is best. Never fill the group up to the top with grounds, and never tamp it down, just shake it a little to level it. Use a grind size slightly coarser than one you'd use in a big espresso machine. This result is a lot more crema than what's shown in this video.

Bialetti replied to my email that the official correct grind for Moka pots is medium-fine. Most espressos are too fine, but the espressos sold in Italian grocery stores are ground medium-fine for the Moka: illy, Lavazza, Kimbo, Bialetti Perfetto Moka, etc.

Hi Joshua, I always use my Moka and Brikka pots with a heat/flame diffuser. It both protects the pots from direct flame and protects the coffee grounds from burning. The diffuser prevents the mistake of allowing flame to lick up the sides of the pot. After rinsing out the pot and drying with the towel, I then heat up the diffuser, turn off the heat and place the boiler and pot on the hot diffuser, it dries out any residual moisture that might be left. I'm hoping this means less scaling in the long run. So far, I have not experienced any bitter coffee by using a diffuser.

This is not how to make coffee in the Brikka. In fact, this method defeats the entire purpose of the machine: the use of a steam valve to create a thick and persistent crema. To obtain, no need to go by anything other than the instructions on the box: 1) use cold water and measure it with the marker in the upper chamber, 2) use a stovetop espresso grind (just slightly coarser than a forced water espresso machine grind), 3) fill the basket with ground coffee, BUT DO NOT COMPRESS - doing so yields the coffee as seen in this video (i.e. brews too long, tastes burnt, and no crema), 4) as soon as the the lovely foamy coffee floods out of the spout, turn heat off and pour into your cup. By following the proper method, a few drops of coffee will come out early, which is completely fine, and will allow the valve to re-seal. The final burst will come in one shot. The above method also makes troubleshooting simple: the only variable is coffee grind and quantity. You'll find your proper settings in no time.
@AlternativeBrewing
@AlternativeBrewing 4 жыл бұрын
1. Using cold water will be a slower brew time no? 2. What if it does not come out in one spurt? then what happens? I find directions on the box ( in general terms) sometimes to be out of date or misleading to how the end user actually uses the products. That being said - you'll certainly make a coffee from the Brikka either way - so all you're saying in the above paragraph is not to compress the coffee? I think a 4 min brew time isn't too absurd to imagine - nor using espresso ground coffee - which for most instances is still far coarser than actual machine espresso grind.. as Espresso Grinders are a far greater expense than grinders unable to achieve an espresso grind are - and hence those who have Moka Pots are more than likely to be using a filter grinder and manual grinder than they are an expensive espresso grinder - or in fact juts pre-ground coffee which reacts like a coarse grind otherwise...

@@AlternativeBrewing I think most people can find preground for the purposes of stovetop espresso machines (pretty much any vacuum sealed, small rectangular pack with Italian branding). I doubt Bialetti ever contemplated anyone using anything coarser. I'm not sure about the cold water but it's recommended by the manufacturer and it works - but I believe that's a less significant variable to grind and not packing it in. Try it out and let me know if you get that nice eruption of crema. I guarantee it will taste better too.

The crema came initially but dissipated fast and there was none left when poured (as in the video here). Second try I used a finer grind, cold water and didn’t wiggle the valve. The second go was perfect. Nice persistent cremaz

I have tried the filling of the basket with ground coffee method and this is around 21 grams per brew. Using the same burner set up as in the video I have tried both cold filtered water and the hot water method and apart from brew time results seem similar. Is there anyway to generate some more crema? Yes, the Brikka Moka brews at a higher pressure. It uses a pressure valve that build up more pressure than normally found in Moka Pots. The higher pressure creates a higher temperature whilst brewing too, and the end result is a espresso-like coffee that's much stronger and more viscous than any regular Moka Pot 😀

Thanks so much! So, coffee is very soluble to hot water. For a simple quick clean of the Brikka - I would fill the water chamber and don't add any coffee - place it on the stove on a medium heat and let it boil up through - repeat this once or twice - give everything a good wipe with a cloth inside and it should remove any stains or coffee that's dried on there. Further to this a deeper clean - Soak the whole moka pot in a vinegar solution. Use 50% vinegar and 50% warm water. Soak for about 30 minutes and then give it a good wipe down this should be a clean for every couple of months to bring it back to shiny 👌

How would you describe the difference in taste and flavor of a cappuccino made with the brikka vs made from a regular espresso shot from a typical espresso machine ?
@AlternativeBrewing
@AlternativeBrewing 2 жыл бұрын
Great question - the biggest difference is the texture of the espresso. Much more watery in the Moka pot espresso, and you need slightly more volume of coffee from the Moka Pot (50-60ml) versus that of Espresso (30-40ml) to make the same size and strength beverage. This difference in texture of the espresso brewed does affect the creaminess and flavour of the Cappuccino. Where the is less of it in the Moka Pot coffee than that of the Espresso coffee.

During the whole heating and brewing process, I noticed a few water drops constantly leaking from the middle section, where we screw the pot to the water tank. This has been happening since the first time I made coffee in it. It seems that I screw the pot to the water tank tight enough, I don't think the issue would be because it's loose. Is there a way to avoid this issue? Does it indicate that the Brikka is defective? By the way, it only leaks from one area during the whole process.

hi there, I would recommend removing the seal and giving it a good clean and wipe down. Ensure when you do screw the top and bottom together - that there is no grinds on the seal... try twisting it a little harder than usual too, but if it persist, we can replace the seal under the 12 warranty no worries. - otherwise can purchase further seals which is recommended periodically.

@@AlternativeBrewing Thank you so much for the answer! I'll try cleaning the rubber gasket. I noticed that it is very loose too and very easy to remove. This seemed odd, but I'm assuming it is normal because I didn't find a place to hold the rubber tight right over the filter plate. I have just one more question. I also noticed that the boiler has black spots on the bottom and on the lower half of the boiler walls. They don't come off with water or with a soft kitchen sponge. I don't know if it came this way out of the box or if I did something wrong in my first attempts. Is there a way to fix it? It doesn't look safe, so I'm not using the pot for now. By the way, out of the box, the pot was very dirty, filled with dust and aluminum powder. It seemed unsanitary to simply wash the pot with water. So, to avoid dust and aluminum residues, I cleaned the pot with coconut soap. To be safe, I may have done it twice, since it's how I handle any new kitchen utensils. I don't know if this could be connect to the black spots on the boiler.

The metal, aluminium, actually oxidises easily, the same type of reaction that causes iron to rust. However, unlike flakey iron oxide, the product of this reaction, aluminium oxide, sticks to the original metal, shielding it from further decay. this is the little black spot you are seeing. These are food safe and do not pose a health risk. I have them on my pot at home too. Theres no real way to avoid them, but you can limit it by gently cleaning and drying out your unit every-time you use it.

This is a common thing with all Bialetti coffee pots not only with yours. I recommend you to screw it as tight as you can but avoid to use the handle in the process because it can break. Just keep the pot on a flat surface (table). If you are right handed, hold the bottom part of the pot firmly in place with your left hand and with your right hand grasp the top of the pot (where the lid is) and tighten it as hard as you can, don't worry you're not going to damage anything. Once tighten this way, it should be properly sealed and there shouldn't be any leaks during the brewing process.

no - and I'll be honest - I'm constantly surprised by there never being any grounds in the coffee.. much like actual espresso machines too though - they use metal filters and a fine grind - you may occasionally find grinds - but so long as you keep things nice and clean - it's usually grinds-free 👍

There was a similar design by the hungarian company called Szarvasi. They used to put the weight inside the steam tube and not on the top. In that design they had switchable different sized coffee holder part allowing to switch between two and four cup dosage. I don’t know if this option exists at Bialetti. Unfortunatelly despite their award-winning beautiful design that product did not have constant good quality so I would not recommend it instead of the Bialetti.

Oh no! Try brewing without any coffee and see if the water comes up through the top. .. if it does , than do a brew with about 3/4 full of coffee and go from there ... it may have just been too much coffee, or the grind was too fine that 2nd time. But running a hot water brew (no coffee) can unblock something - if that's the problem

@AlternativeBrewing
@AlternativeBrewing 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Fiona, sound like you have the coffee ground too fine or the heat on too hot! . If it is erupting than the water is building up too much pressure. This will only happen with a coffee ground too fine.. if it is too fine AND you cannot grind any coarser, than perhaps try adding half a basket of coffee first and see how that brews. Next, keep it on a medium to low heat ... nothing too hot!

I wouldn't be boiling anything in the water tbh - unless you remove the seals. There is a further deep clean you can do with vinegar and water -and you just need to fill the base with 50% white vinegar and 50% water and no coffee in the basket. Then put it on the stove just like you're preparing a regular pot. Once the process is complete, pour out the water and vinegar collected up top, and repeat process using only water this time for the rinse. Cleaning any coffee equipment is relatively easy so ling as you do it after each time you use it and makes sure it's dry before placing it all back together, in saying that - it does eventually start to stain and so forth, there's just no avoiding this in the long run.
