Eventhough I'm not fine art artist (digital art), I always do studies on paper and pencil. I elevate the paper and use this grip. I found that putting paper flat on table strain my wrist and neck so much it giving pain. So better posture and line for me.

Wow, I've been drawing all my life and was never taught this method. I've tried it now and am so AMAZED! Now, I will apply this method from now on. It was the skill I needed to move forward.

do you suppose small details could be done as effectively with a mastered candle grip as a writing grip when applied at a shorter distance?

Hmm candle grip seems more useful to use in a large paper? Do you suggest doing this even if just drawing on a sketchbook on a flat surface?

It seems to me if you are drawing very large this is helpful...but what about drawing on smaller paper
