How to Use the Grid App

How to Use the Grid App:
1. Download the App!
2. Import Photo
3. Adjust Settings:
--Set Rows & Collums (Vertical: Rows:12, Col: 9) (Horizontal: Rows: 9, Col: 12)
--Line Width: Set to 1, or 2
--Line Color: Your choice (I prefer white!)
--"Settings" --Turn Off: "Tap to Pick Color"
4. MODE: - "Show Cell Label"
Screen Shot it, Save, & Submit!

Extremely helpful video! I’ve always free handed my outlines and I’ve grown so tired of it. I always heard about the grid method but it seemed hard. The way you taught it is so simple. Thank you! Now I’m off to watch the second part!

This was unbelievably helpful! May I ask how would you do the proportions if the paper we are using is not in exact inches? For example if it is A4 paper (8.3 x 11.7 inches)

Thanks for the good information on using this app because it is not very self explanatory. Do you know of a good app that would be similar to pro poster for PCs but I want something for an Apple product. It had the capability of outlining a Portrait and you could make it say 16 x 20 and print out your photo reference and then when printed you could Tape the pages together & trace on your support. I think the term is called tiling. It was great for portraits and for collage work. Thanks for your help Nancy

Here, sorry I am not that mathamatical and wish to draw a lion on a canvas of 50x70 cm, i.e. 18x24" - I have the picture of the lion on a A4 page, which is 8x10" (20x26cm). Shall i crop the picture to be able to enlarge the for the big canvas - I could also use a canvas of 80x80cm, but the picture is more oblong. Tks for your help.

Hi! Yes, you should crop your reference to match the proportionate dimensions of your canvas (since you cannot easily crop your canvas!).

I can't see why not! I am not super familiar with that process but I think you'd need additional rows & columns, if so you could just increase those numbers! Let me know if you have success!

Good question! Perhaps creating a smaller size grid would help in this case- you can do this by increasing the number of rows and columns you are using in your settings. Just be sure to do so proportionately as to keep your spaces square instead of rectangular.

It works out to be a 1 inch x 1 inch grid .. so that would be 2.54cm x 2.54cm! Hope that helps!

Mam I have a 40 by 60 canvas......how to draw grid on that ......

Good question- For a canvas that is 40 x 60 you'd want to first crop your reference image to be proportionate (4x6). Then you can use 4x6 as your settings here instead of 9x12 for a one inch grid on your reference. This would translate to a 10 inch grid on your canvas. If that grid size is uncomfortable you can adjust the settings how you see fit- just be sure to do so proportionately. Hope that helps! (Prior to this video I had my student crop their images to work with these settings. You can see this in another video on my channel. In this video we were planning on using 9x12 drawing paper and that is why we used those settings)

@@TPtrails A reference image is an image you want to use to refer back to (to see how to draw your lines, shapes, spaces, colors, and/or values). In this case, the picture you want to draw from the internet IS your reference image! You might be interested in these two videos I have for you: 1.
