I forgot to say in the video that the Racing Post’s TS handicapper may tweak the adjusted TS rating for the current race’s conditions (eg the going) and the horse’s potential for improvement. However, I don’t see that happen often and, when I have seen such adjustments, the adjustment has only been by a very small amount.

A very helpful video thanks. If anybody needs stats for LH / RH tracks ,please check attheraces ,you can find it by clicking the horses name in the racecard.

Hi Artimus, what about if the wgt carried is above the 12st or 10st, do you still do nothing, or subtract the additional wgt, as apposed to adding the number to the raw TS? Thanks

If you read the chapter on speed, it might help you get some ideas of how to use Inform Racing. There are lot of ways to use Inform Racing and I'm sure I don't even know half of them. This is an interesting video. I would like to ask how pace affects the speed rating. For example would a horse with top speed rating in the conditions, who is also a front runner, who is in a race where there is not much pace be rated as a solid bet. I am assuming hold up performers would generally need a fast pace to reproduce a good speed rating or am I incorrect in that assumption? It would be good if there was a quick way to see the pace of the race alongside the speed rating.

Hi Steven, Thanks for your comment. I'm not an expert on race tactics. I have picked up stuff. Horses don't always run with the same run style - I know that because Inform Racing shows the last 20 run styles of horses and many horses tend to have a variety of run styles. Therefore, trainers may adjust the run style, depending on the course and the other horses in the race. The front runner, with a top speed, might be a solid bet. It would need to have had a high speed rating in its previous race to prove its on top form. As you know with front runners, they are often one paced, if they do get challenged. I often hear race commentators say that hold-up horses need a fast pace. However, if it's too fast, they won't have much left in the tank. If it is too slow, the other horses will have something left in the tank. In this case, the hold-up horse will have to accelerate past other horses that (got a head start) and are accelerating. As I've said, I'm not an expert on race tactics. However, that is my take on it. Best regards, Artimus

In NH weight does not matter. A lb here or there is absolutely nothing so the RP adjusting a horses speed rating to 12 stone turns them into nonsense. The longer distances and jumping ability shows the nonsense of weight when most NH races are won by multiple lengths. The only place weight matters is 2 yo sprint races. Work your own speed rating out from a performance then leave it alone.
