How to use the Spanish present perfect and when to use the preterit in Spanish is something that you must know. In today's class, we'll have a look at the difference between the Spanish Present Perfect vs the Preterit or Simple Past in Spanish.

Soy autodidacta no lo sé mucho de español pero empecé a estudiarlo porque me gusta ese idioma y también por la similitud que hay entre el portugués y español, no tengo como hacerme una evaluación pero consigo escribir un poco y entiendo bastante, para lograr algo hay que esforzarse aunque tenemos que pasar por encima de las dificultades y seguir rumbo a nuestro objetivo.

An excellent explanation of when to use present perfect, although I'm living in Argentina so maybe I wont have to use this tense so often :-). A great explanation but I still have one question. I have need to communicate with people from Argentina and Spain and so I still don’t understand where the line is drawn for Argentines for the need to go into the ‘haber’ form. Using your example of ‘I have lived in Madrid for five years’ (and still do), how would they express that using the pretérito? Or would they switch to ‘He vivido’ in this instance?

I prefer grammar rather than interaction as a first step in knowing any foreign language. I've just haven't gotten those courses which's claimed one can do without these step by step. I've quit going deeper into knowing Romanian for, well, here in Brazil English and Spanish rock better.

If, instead of saying 'he decido de comprar el pase anual', I said 'decidi de comprar el pase anual' (accent should be on that e'), would that make you think that the term on the membership was over? Also let's say that the term on the membership WAS over. Would it then be correct to use the preterito indicativo, as in : 'decidi de comprar el pase anual'? Also, is it possible that two native Spanish native speakers could disagree on which is the appropriate tense to use, based on, perhaps, disagreements about how long ago they think the event was? Or, perhaps they might disagree on whether the past event effects the present? What I am trying to ask is: 'can we use discretion when deciding whether to use compuesto or indicativo past tense?

Estoy un poco confundido, porque supuestamente el pretérito perfecto compuesto se usa con acciones que tienen consecuencias en el presente, pero parece que un ejemplo que usted puso del pretérito indefinido (La semana pasada me apunté a un curso de tenis) tiene consecuencias en el presente, o sea, me apunté a un curso (en el pasado) y ahora estoy apuntado a un curso (una consecuencia que sigue en el presente). Tal vez yo esté pensando demasiado las cosas pero sigo confundido jaja. Pero bueno, gracias por el video

¡Hola! La respuesta es "me ha encantado" porque es una pretérito perfecto compuesto y la conjugación para la tercera persona del singular requiere la forma "ha", es decir "el/ella/ o algo me ha encantado". La forma "he" en "me he encantado" es la conjugación de la primera persona del singular. 😀

You made a mistake with Verbo conocer y ver y visitar Amigos.conocer means to Know some body in the first time ,but you are great techar.

Mmm... not necessarily. You can use 'conocer' to say you know someone in general and also that you've met them for the first time. Por ejemplo, "conozco a Marta pero no a Pedro. Nunca nos presentaron." (I know Marta but not Pedro, we were never introduced). But you can also say "conocí a Juan ayer" (I met Juan yesterday) meaning I met him for the first time.

No creo es corecto. He vivido en Madrid durante 5 años - significa que no estas viviendo. Llevo viviendo en Madrid 5 años. - estás viviendo en Madrid.

How you perceive that action. If you think it's too recent for you, you'll use "hoy he ido a visitar a mi madre". This form is mostly used in Spain. But if you see the action as finished and distant, you'll use "hoy fui a visitar a mi madre". This form is mostly used in Latin America

Ella está enseñando la norma estándar, aunque hoy fui es el uso mayoritario en los casi todos los dialectos americanos, salvo en zonas de Colombia, Perú, etc. Si dices hoy fui, es totalmente correcto en el habla coloquial aunque al cambiar al registro más formal/académico en el que no sabrías deducir el origen del autor, se recomienda ir a la norma estándar y decir hoy he ido

I find there to be too much information on the white board. Maybe change white board with each topic. Butterfly spanish over does it with the white board. Normally I like your videos but not this one, although I am still struggling with the topic.
