One of our favorite tools to tackle tearout is a sharp cabinet scraper. With this cabinet scraper set, you'll always have a sharp scraper on hand. Here's what you'll get:
-Honing Guide and File
-Burnishing Rods for Turning a Burr
-Woodsmith Fine Tools Cabinet Scraper
-Instruction Booklet for Perfect Results
A card scraper is the perfect tool to tackle nasty grain. Plus, the whispy shavings it produces allow you to start sanding a fine grit. When the scraper is dull, however, it will create dust and not perform very well. Never fear - getting a razor edge on your card scraper is simple when you use a card scraper sharpening jig.

Thanks Logan! I ordered one of those card scraper systems when it first came out in preparation for the time I could finally do some woodworking. Well, I recently retired and have even started a few small projects. I saw the card scraper kit unopened in the basement the other day and wondered how difficult it would be to figure out how to use it. And here you are, right on time with a tutorial. Great timing! 😀

Ok, first things first. I am getting this for my shop. Id feel like a caveman if I was watching myself do it the way I’ve done it for years. I didn’t even finish watching the video before I started kicking myself for not getting this sooner. THANK YOU!!!! Tom P.S. I love all the plans on the web site. I’ve built many projects from the plans I got from you guys.

It looks like the burnishing pin could get in the way when filing the card edge. Does anyone have comments from experience? Is the pin removable or replaceable?

I bought this card scraper sharpening system and it has really helped me tremendously. But what I really wanted to is where did you get that large card scraper from, mine is too small and get too hot when I’m using it. Thanks

I’ve had this jig for over 15 years and it’s in the drawer hardly ever used. You are better off buying a burnishing rod and learning. It’s also extremely overpriced these days. Biggest issue is you don’t really get a 90 degree edge before turning the burr. You get a “rough” edge without flattening the face of each side of the scraper.

I agree. I bought one of these years ago and have never been able to get much of an edge on a scraper. It's just too rough. The results are uneven cuts that just make powder.
