How to Use Watercolor Pencils on Greeting Cards

Have you been wondering how to use watercolor pencils on greeting cards? I've been asked everything from “What are the best watercolor pencils”, to “Do I have to use water with watercolor pencils” and asked for techniques so I’m breaking all the details down for you today!
The best watercolor pencils are those that are well pigmented and have a soft led. Pencils that don't easily break and let's add pencils that coordinate with cardstock and accessories. Stampin' Up!'s watercolor pencils fit the bill on all these and you're going to love using them.
Today's watercolor pencil techniques will include the use of the Water Painters and the Blender Pens. I'll include tips for ink, paper, drying times and 'how to'. Today's video is packed with information and plus I've got two completed cards using each of these techniques.

What a great video. I have always used Whisper White cardstock rather then the watercolor paper when I used my pencils and blender pens. I will switch, thank you for the tip.

Thanks for tips. I enjoy using SU pencils without water as well. Then you can use your other black inks for the stamped images; you get bright images, and you can create blended colors, even without water. I have fun playing and exploring what I can do. Again, thanks for info - especially about use of inks and maintenance . Your card creations are inspiring too - jo shu

I appreciate your tips. I might have one that could help you. I did a video about this recently in my craft a quick tips. Some of my friends that have arthritis or other disabilities affecting their hands have been able to use this tip with good effect. You can use a rolling pin to roll over a stamping block or another surface instead of having to press and hold with your hands. This could also work to put the paper on top of the background stamp as you show in this video. The one I used in my video happens to be a pampered chef double ended roller. Hope that helps! Tip: Use a hybrid ink to stamp with, and after putting down the watercolour pencil, blend it using the Blender Pen from either Stampin Blends or Copics or any other alcohol blending pen. Your watercolour pencil will be more intense than you get using water or the Zig Blender Pen, or other Gamsol component.
