@OnyxFoodHill

Just boil it for 7 minutes with a little salt and once it cools, rub it against your palms to remove the darkish water. Rinse it severally to get rid of the bitter taste

I find this hilarious. How do you use bitter leaf without washing the bitterness off or at least some of the bitterness off? This can only be done if you are using a different specie of butter leaf that’s not so bitter( that’s if there is) or using just one or two leaves in a large pot of soup. My question here is can you just boil the bitter leaf from the start to remove bitterness?
@OnyxFoodHill
@OnyxFoodHill 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your contribution I do appreciate it. Yes you can boil it if you don't have time to wash it from scratch, but this will only remove the bitter taste partially and not come completely.

Why would you wash the bitterness out when that is the nutrient in the leaves. Also, you will not taste the bitterness by the second day, so you can cook your soup a day before.
@OnyxFoodHill
@OnyxFoodHill 5 жыл бұрын
It's a matter of choice ma'am. Some people can't cook the leaves with the bitterness because it's very concentrated, but if you can cope with it, just go ahead and no need to wash it.
@frankozrin5611
@frankozrin5611 5 жыл бұрын
If you don't remove the bitterness, it is unbearably bitter, even the next day. It is ok if some bitterness remains, but at least 90% of it must disappear, otherwise you can't eat the food

@@OnyxFoodHill You're welcome, my comment comes from my own experience. I am from Southeastern Europe and tried making a dish from Cameroon with bitterleaf. I was unaware that the leaves need to be washed as nobody in my country even knows what bitterleaf is.
@OnyxFoodHill

The leaves are extremely bitter, you can't just manage at all. But there is a different specie of bitter which is less bitter, it's commonly found in the south (Nigeria). Thanks for the comments.
