How to Wean Puppies the Correct way Without Problems (Frenchies, Matt's Kennels)

Weaning process can start at early as 3 weeks. These guys in here just hit 4 weeks which I think is the best time for them. Each litter of puppies will be different and it is your job to assess whether or not they are ready to wean.

Yes I do. I still do milk but weeks later I just transition into water only. Make sure water isn’t tap water though

Nice I have pit bull named Nina she’s pregnant right now and I’m happy but kinda not because she has 12 puppies in her stomach it’s only me and my brother taking care of 12 puppies and getting them adopted

Ahh! Well good luck! Bigger breed dogs are a lot easier to take care of. Especially a natural labor too. You got it no problem. If you need help…you know who to contact.

For the puppy’s eating the rice and milk . Every what hour do you give it to them ? Is it still 2 hours just like puppy milk ?

Hi Matt grate info how about the one that are been eating mommas milk when we do the mush should we add a can milk?will they get diarrhea if they haven’t ate this ??

it all depends. I gradually transition in most cases. There are cases where I would have to fully transition in case mama has a problem. It's usually no problem. You just gotta make sure they are gaining weight. Add pumpkin if diarrhea happen. If that doesnt work then suspect something else like worms, giarddia, or coccidia. Could be the type of consistency of the food too.

Great vid! question, 3 week old litter been tube feeding since birth problems with momma, and was born preemie,Can I start them at 3 weeks? Only back teeth no front teeth I guess because they never got to suckle on momma. But can I start at 3 weeks ?

Hi. I have a 5 weeks old pug, my question is how many ml of milk and how many grams of royal canin mousse should I feed him? I don't want to overfeed him because just yesterday a food came out to his nose and he vomitted. I brought him to the vet and the vet told me I overfed him even tho I just followed Royal Canin's mousse serving suggestion :( but I think the mistake that I made is after his meal, I bottle fed him with milk. What should I do? :( The vet didn't answer my question clearly :( should I just pour the milk in a bowl/plate together with the mousse?

Were your puppies okay even though they vomited and came out of nose. I'm having same issue with 5 week Boston terrier. Everytime he eats we go through this tough routine. Other than that he acts like normal.

Add more of that rice gerber single grain. Not too much though. The milk will absorb into it making it thick. Should take a couple minutes for it to be thick and not as runny/loose.

Sure you can. If it makes thing easier for puppies to stop fighting each other then yes u can do it. Although it would take more time to feed them all tho

There’s really not a time or specific time to start feeding them. It’s whenever they are ready. For example, teeth coming in and mama doesn’t want to whelp them anymore cause teeth hurt the nipples. If puppies are big enough to start eating and not suckling no more then it’s time to start doing it. On the other hand, if you are tube feeding then you can put a little in the gerber in the milk for extra calories. I’ve had great success with that. Hope that helps Lex

I wanted to ask if what I should do if my puppy gets the mush into his nose. I currently am transitioning 5 lilac tan frenchie puppies almost 4 weeks old and one of them wakes up and sounds like choking. I tried the nasal aspirator and a portable suction unit but doesn’t seem to work. I can’t find any answers in google or in videos. I hope you’d reply. 🥹🤍

As long as u don’t hear like a crackling sound when it breaths or has a hard time breathing u should be fine

I would never wean pups like that. I hold the bowl up so they don’t go into the food or let them cover their faces because that will cause aspiration and turn into pneumonia

Litters I had before with the mom I don’t stop the moms milk. Only when they get a little older where they have teeth coming in and long claws where it hurts mom is when I stop entirely. All depends how comfortable the mom is. Sometimes she’ll get fed up early so weaning can begin early.

@@MattsKennels our momma keeps feeding them at 7 weeks, not much milk left but she tolerates it and actually goes to them. I reckon this doesnt hurt and we are tryin to keep momma separated from the pups most of the day. Are we doin a good job?

I've had some mamas that don't mind it at all. They'll need the transition because milk alone is not sufficient in nutrients when the puppies are older.

Can I ween within a week if necessary? Momma has been having such a hard time and the puppies are four weeks as of today. I fed them their first meal and they all went crazy. Momma is underweight and now experiencing pain and doesn’t want to feed the puppies much.

You can cut the nails with mail cutter just the tips tho that helps also mom should be eating high protein food some Bill Jack can food is pretty good a bit expensive
