bravo! good points george and blake! i have two pairs of dress shoes at work based on what event or occasion im attending. i wear sneakers at my desk or on my way to work. its about functionality but respecting your professionalism! love this post guys!!!! RELEVANT!!!! no shows for life too!!!

I think the thing is that they've gone for a slim monochrome sneakers. But if people think they can pair sneakers with suit they will opt for the "athletic blob", as this is the common perception of sneakers. If I'd go in the direction of a sneaker i would not even a slim one, but something like a half-shoe (I don't know the english expression, in German it is "Halbschuh"), which is between slim sneaker and dress shoe, but not quite dress-shoe as it is made out of canvas instead of leather and with a rubber sole.

Hey guys definitely a good speaking point. I think it's definitely important to have a discussion about the difference between tennis shoes and sneakers. I know that they are used interchangeably but since this is "gents lounge" I know you want the fellas to be informed. Tennis shoes are generally the shoes that you mentioned throughout the video they have a thicker soul, that usually white and are made of canvas, suede or leather, outside of class chucks that were used as bball shoes. Sneakers are actually what you are advising cats not to wear. Just a thought. Secondly I think its very important to talk more about the fabrics that should be worn with a suit, while a lot of fellas were shot by street photographers they were going to work and I think a lot of guys now think they can "pull off" that look with worsted and hard clothing. When It is probably more suited (no pun intended for softer and more casual looks). Lastly, I was taught that your lapels are always in proportion with your shoulders which will offset your shirt collar placement, so can you give me some insight into your thoughts on the lapel width and it's relation to shoes? Great post as always hope you don't mind the thoughts.

thank you for bringing up the no show socks. I'm always being asked if I'm wearing any socks with my shoes when I wear no show socks, and I also get ridiculed because people say I'm wearing "girls socks"

I wear new balance 574 with suits all the time for my airport travel look. Also check out Jason sudekis with Jordan's and suits/tuxedos... only guy I know that can pull that off

Charles Alfaro maybe the all whites in the right situation but I'm not sure I would give it a shot. I feel like the front of the shoe is too unstructured to give your feet enough weight to what's going on up top. But send us a pic if you try it out!

Where most people would say NO NEVER, which is what I thought when reading this comment. I would say with our slim suits the bulk and size of an AF1 wouldn't look proportional for our silhouette. If you have a more relaxed fit I think it could possibly work in all white like you said but only in certain situations. The af1 even in all white is still a bit busy IMO for a suit. -G

I came here to hate on this look but the way it was explained, wearing sneakers when you are in a casual environment, makes sense and looks good. I don't think I will ever get on board with seeing someone wearing Nikes with a black suit. It looks clumsy.

With a sports jacket or a light summer linen or cotton suit it may be okay to wear tennis shoes or espadrilles, as long as they are one solid color that compliments the suit color in some fashion. However, a two piece suit, especially formal ones, with tennis shoes does look not stylish or chic at all, it actually makes one look like someone who does not anything about fashion or etiquette. When GQ start doing exposes of rappers wearing suits like thugs, combining them with hoodies, and wearing tennis shoes, etc, is when this hideous mode starting getting traction, which in my opinion, is just a style for simpletons who do not know how to dress or just want attention like hip hop singers. The argument that tennis shoes are more comfortable than dress shoes can easily be counter by citing that some dress shoes like the brand Rockport, are more comfortable than most tennis shoes in the market.

Chuck Taylors are pretty much like a cloth sock with a rubber sole it is viewed as such when worn with a suit . In recent days, people have been calling sneakers, shoes Which they are not as Shoes are defined by having a leather sole.
