It's here! The full step-by-step version teaches you how to weave a fragrant lavender wand using 13 stems. ➡️ Each step is time stamped below. ⬅️ This is one of the most intriguing lavender crafts on lavender farms around the world! For Project Files mentioned in the video be sure to click the link below.
With an odd number of fresh lavender stems, two yards of 1/4" double-faced lavender ribbon and 30-45 minutes, you will be able to make a fragrant lavender wand.
If you have an older lavender wand, the fragrance can be refreshed with a drop or two of Lavender Essential Oil* www.LiveGood.com/labyrinthhil...
Weave along with me as you transform those stems into a Magical Lavender Wand. I designed the video so that you can complete each step along the way. Pause, finish the step, then proceed.
00:25 Tools
01:11 Stem Selection You can use any number of stems as long as it is an odd number. In this video I used 13 stems. 💜
02:35 Stem Cleaning
04:11 Trimming and Tying Ribbon
05:17 Make a Cage
06:38 Weaving the Stems

The Project File also includes two documents that will help you if you are not already growing lavender. The first answers the top ten questions asked about growing lavender. The second document has my recommendations for the varieties that produce the best stems for weaving lavender wands. I'll also send you full written instructions with photos!

So pretty! My grandmas friend learned me how to make them when i was i think 7 years old and i still love making them in the summer! I bought a ton of different colored ribbons. My favourite one is the creme coloured one. It looks so well with the lavender. I like to make the top very slim for an elegant look but the thicker ones look fantastic too! I always pick the lavender from my grandmas garden but there is quite a lot of bugs and spiders in it so you really gotta look at every single one to make sure there is none😅. Really love the tutorial. I love seeing how others make them in their own way!💜

Thank you Susan, this is an excellent teaching demo. I am now on my 11th, slowly trying to get as neat as yours. Been in my bits box but it needs the narrower ribbon. I found it easier to sit outside on the bench, as the bits were all over my carpet. Plus it was so relaxing enjoying a cuppa, working with the lavender and the bees buzzing as they come to watch 🤗

Oh, yes, so do I! 🙄When you make that first tie around the neck of the stems below the flower heads, simply double the ribbon before you tie the knot. This forms the loop to pull up after you bend the stems, then start weaving.

Hey, Katie! Thanks for visiting and your kind feedback. Depending on where you live, this time of year there won’t be any fresh lavender for wands. Here in the Pacific Northwest, the earliest we see lavender is late May/early June. Those varieties will be Lavandula angustifolia (aka English lavender) and sometimes their stems aren’t long enough for wand weaving. I have to wait until July for other varieties with longer stems to bloom. 💜

@@LABYRINTHHILL You can grow lavender as a house plant too can't you? I have heard that it is good to have a lavender plant in your bedroom if you have trouble sleeping but have not found any plants.
@LABYRINTHHILL
@LABYRINTHHILL 3 жыл бұрын
@@yannettemiller There are some compact varieties which do well in pots, and therefore possible to grow indoors. A better idea for year-round lavender fragrance in the bedroom is to purchase lavender hydrosol and give a quick spray to the pillow before sleeping. Another is to tuck a lavender sachet on your pillow before making the bed. When you turn in at night there will be a lovely fragrance.💜

This is my favorite time of year when my lavender is in bloom. I find that I leave my cleaned lavender stems to rest 1 - 2 hours before bending they are more flexiable no breakage and no knead to score the stems. Have fun!

Beautiful❣ Thank you for sharing your experiences with lavender. I have 24 English Lavender plants ordered, just waiting for them to ship. I'm going to plant them in raised beds. Any tips for growing in raised beds is welcomed. I plan on using in cold process soaps and more crafts. Thank you again.
@LABYRINTHHILL
@LABYRINTHHILL 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Raised beds are ideal especially if your native soil does not drain well. Lavender hates wet feet. Best tip is to water deeply but less often, allowing the plantings to dry out in between. You might enjoy our free mini class answering the top 10 questions I've been asked about growing lavender: bit.ly/top-ten-FAQs And a final comment on using lavender buds in soap: when combined with the lye and cold process soap making, the buds turn an ugly brown even if sprinkled on the top. I much prefer to use the essential oil only and save the buds for fragrant sachets to accompany the bars of soap. 💜
@LABYRINTHHILL
@LABYRINTHHILL 3 жыл бұрын
Raised beds are ideal for the drought-loving lavender since they provide good drainage. It's best to water thoroughly then let the bed completely dry out. Lavender never likes wet feet. As a soap maker myself I've found it's best not to use the lavender buds in or on the soap since it tends to go brown during the curing process. 💜

These are beautiful. I've made a few, but I loved watching your video to see if I was doing it right. Just a few adjustments. How do you make the loop at the top. Do you make that before you start weaving down the stems?
@LABYRINTHHILL
@LABYRINTHHILL 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for visiting! 🙏 That loop at the top is made by doubling the ribbon about 3 inches, then making the first knot. You then pull the loop up before you start weaving. Does that make sense? Perhaps I should make a quick video of the process when we have our lavender harvest in July. Would that help? Be sure to let me know if you have any other questions about growing or using lavender! 💜

Add a little extra length to the ribbon so you can double it at the beginning and tie the knot below the flower heads. Then pull the loop made, through before you begin weaving. If that doesn't help, I will make a quick video in a couple of weeks to demonstrate my loop technique.

Oh, Jen, I'm so sorry! 😩 How fresh were your stems? Sometimes it helps to heavily water the plants-at the base, not overhead-the night before you harvest. This helps the stems be more pliable. This late in the season I notice the stems on my plants are far more brittle even when fresh. 💜
