I would love to relearn this. We made our own baskets years ago in New Zealand when I was young. It's a lovely art. They are so handy to have.

They truly are handy! Knowing how to make them also makes you feel less precious about them so that they get used. There's a complete series here on how to make John Dog's basket so if you feel like a weekend project, it's waiting for you :)

My wife was big into baskets as a hobby. Her two favorites were old egg baskets and Nantucket baskets

This has been really useful to see - we had a one-session hedgerow basket weaving workshop last week and I was keen to finish off the edge and insert a handle before this afternoon's (non-workshop) session. It would have been even more useful if the camera hadn't pulled back on the detail of inserting the cut ends into the edge on the 2nd round; it might make for a more interesting angle to pull back from time to time, but bearing in mind this is supposed to be an instructional video, more close-ups of the hands at work would have served the purpose better. Having replayed the clip several times, fortunately I think I know what to do!
