I've just completed a 1 day clutch up wheelie school on FZ600s in the UK. I wish I'd seen this video first, as i was disappointed with my day as i din't progress as much as i wanted too. Getting the feeling of a power wheelie as you say needs to be done first. Going to go and practice some more then check out your clutch up one. (I have a KTM 950 SM so it does need to be wheelied :) Great video, thanks.

I spent weeks trying to clutch up and it scared the shit out of me everytime and crushed my balls the 2 times i got it up, got scared and slapped it down. I love your explanation of why easy up with power wheelies are better. Everyone teaches clutch up but I dont want to ride a wheelie for 2 miles i want to lift a bit to show off and set it down. I feel much safer doing power wheelies because 2 bad senarios happen in the worst case, 1. You dont roll on it enough and no wheelie that you can play off as a rev bomb and not look stupid and 2. You crack it to much and the wheel comes up to quick if you realize that you drop the throttle and your back down easy. On a clutch up if you rev to high and dump your going 12 o clock and over. Thank you for this video I was getting mad discouraged on my wheelies.

Do you have to turn off wheelie control/traction control to do power wheelies on your 1290? More so, to keep them up? Mine will come up with ease but doesnt the electronics fight you for it?

I guess that this is OK for bigger bikes with high torque, but on 600cc you just cannot do it like that. I have Yamaha fz6 and adding throttle it just speeds up. If I want to do power wheelie on it, I need to do it in first gear, rev it up to 6000, roll off and then hit the throttle to pop it. It's pretty scary because bike is accelerating fast suddenly. I think I'm gonna try clutch up instead.

Some motorcycle will not power wheelie on second unless you quickly and aggressively accelerate. Your KTM.is very light. Much easier to power wheelie

I'd say chasing power wheelies is more dangerous than clutch ups. Clutch ups you don't pick up a lot of speed to get the wheel up. Chasing power wheelies you've already picked up a lot of speed be time the wheel gets up and you don't realise it because you're focusing on the wheelie. I learnt by doing baby clutch ups in 2nd gear on my MT-07 and most of my close calls were because I wasn't paying attention to my speed during a wheelie. I had a few "oh shit" moments where I clutched it up a it a bit fast but I learnt to drag the rear brake during a wheelie so that it's instinct when you need it.

Fantastic advice....I bought an SMCR just to learn to wheelie, went to a wheelie school in UK who only taught us beginners clutch ups in 1st...on their bikes with wands that stop the flip thing....its taken me 2 years of practice to confidently clutch up in 2nd, on demand in control covering the break.....I am just changing the smcr for a new duke 790......so I will use your power wheelie advice so as not to trash my new baby...please can you tell me what bar end mirrors you have on your SDuke and on the 790 you videoed, think they are the same mirrors, they look super cool....anyway, watch this space, I may post my own video of 790 wheelies, IF I follow your advice to the letter. Cheers buddy Barry

@chrismueller1655
@chrismueller1655 5 жыл бұрын
No, you'd be better off hitting the revlimiter than pulling the clutch mid-wheelie. If you disengage the clutch, you're removing the torque that's holding you up on the back wheel, so your front tire will abruptly slam down.

@kischardio First I gotta say Awesome channel! You've inspired a lot the looks I've got for my Super Duke. Question. Were you able to power wheelie prior to the Austin pipe/ akrapovic flash? I've been practicing for weeks reaching the rev limiter in 2nd with no lift. The wheel gets real lite but no wheelie. I do have it in track mode with AWM off. I've even started to turn MTC off as well. I'm only successful doing clutch ups. I'm concerned I have to buy a power commander to power wheelie since KTM is no longer offering the Akrapovic flash anymore. Thanks I'd love a reply on tips and tricks 😁

@Kischardio
@Kischardio 5 жыл бұрын
Stretched is going to be very tough to wheelie. Lower tire pressure will help with balance but to get lift you’ll need to just up the power. If you can twist fully in first gear and it won’t wheelie, you’re gonna have to clutch up
