Great Vid. I have learned to take my washer apart looking at these vids. I'm still on the fence if I should try and fix it myself or just buy a new one. My whirlpool washer is about 15+ years old. According to the repairman, the parts will cost me about $300, he is charging me about $560 total. Thank you Sir! 👊🏼

Thank you for this video. I was lost as to the positioning of the break cam driver and the clutch spring during reconnection because when I finally broke the connection between the drive shaft and the outer tub seal, the separation caused things to move out of position. I wasn't sure about the reconnection positioning. I couldn't find anything until now to explain it. This helped me. Very thorough video. Well done. Thank you.

Awesome video, my elderly aunt has a problem where her washing machine isn't spinning, and have broken it down to probably being in the gear case. This help so much knowing how to replace it and saving her some money, thank you.

Excellent video for replacing parts on Kenmore 80 series. Ordered drive, clutch, and coupling, then removed the parts.Turned out that only the coupling appears broken. I guess new drive for 20-year-old unit won't hurt anything.

Awesome video! Do what he says it's a piece of cake. You can get the part for as little as $120. If your washer is crunching during the agitation and/or making a horrible loud sound when braking this is your problem. Took me about 45 minutes.

Nice Video, 1) One additional thought, that will help is to put a Little Piece of Duct Tape over the Breather Hole, while assembling, so OIL does not drip OUT !!!! THEN Remove the Duct Tape after assembled, so the Transmission Gear Case can Breathe .. 2) Make sure that there is enough Gear oil 90 Weight, is in there, by checking with a Bobby Pin or paper Clip. .. You Can also Insert additional Oil, with a small syringe. through the Breather Hole..

+calforman The tape is a good idea if you are going to leave the transmission tipped for a while. The oil is a special oil from the manufacturer I would suggest only using it and not some random gear oil. Specifically if you use detergent gear oil it could cause foaming. The only way to correctly fill the transmission is to open the case and fill it with oil. It only holds 15 ounces of oil and would never be filled above the case split. There is a big gear right below the vent hole so it you try to use a dip stick you may end up over filling it, causing pressure problems and the extra oil might get pushed out the vent hole. The syringe method would work if you knew you lost 4 ounces, so you could fill it to the correct level with out overfilling. Glad the video helped you get the washer fixed!

Thank you for your professional and guru instructions! Question - does the washer in top of the clutch require grease? I ask about the washer on top of the clutch's retaining clip. Is this metal-on-metal designed to require grease, please? Thank you.

I thought this was going to be about the neutral drain. I see now it is about how to change a direct drive neutral drain transmission. My bad. :)

A couple thoughts...is it me or did he forget at the end of the video, after standing it up, to go back inside the washer and put back in the plastic piece and retaining clip, and put back in the agitator and reinstall the 7/16" retaining bolt? Also another video i watched to cross reference against this one showed them removing the "tub retaining nut" with a spanner wrench. This video didn't talk about that? I'm guessing it was to lessen tension from the old and new transmission shaft so it would slide in and out easier (or at all) ?

I followed his video 📹 to the T but he failed to mention removing the agitator nut with the spanner wrench. I did what he said but then couldn't get the gear case out from the bottom so I had to put the screws back in and try to remove the agitator nut. Need a spanner wrench. So it'll be a couple of days before I'll know if that works.

The 3360629 is the standard, but not the only, gear case that has been used for many years. To verify it is the correct one go to our site and enter your model number to view the parts breakdown. The part number you supplied off the case did not come up as a good part number.

Before you buy the $273 transmission replacement part you should make sure that it isn't just your washer motor coupler, an $8 part.

Hi There. We replaced the clutch in my machine (thanks for the video!) but now the gear shaft is too tall. It's like the whole shaft moved up 1", so the plastic piece next to the spanner nut won't sit flush. Any ideas on what might cause that? We can pound it back down but that doesn't seem wise.

You really need to tell folks to inspect the clutch and coupler, as well as the water seal to the tub assy, while you have it apart.

why during the spin cycle balance is way off even when empty?

I have a Kenmore Elite model 11020994992 has an issue spinning. it only hums and then trips the fuse. I ordered a clutch and a coupler. I do like the way you did not have to take off the housing. mine has hoses for soap, fabric softer and bleach. pain. i already replaced the drain hose. this should fix the issue. i figure the rubber piece probably broke and jammed the coupler gears. but i will replace the clutch since i am already doing a repair. beats having to work twice. any thoughts?

Maybe check out the brakes, they can cause a motor to over heat if they are dragging in the spin cycle. You can do a google search for "Replacing direct drive washer brake shoes" and our forum should come up. Lots of great info on this page about how to test the brakes and motor. If you are going to pull it apart might as well take a look at those too!

Dude, you need to have a soft cloth when placing that transmission on top of the asher. Wives have conniption fits over stuff like that (i.e. scratching the paint.) Awesome vid though. Just kidding....

@@appliancepartspros It's a basic direct drive whirlpool/Kenmore with a failing neutral drain mechanism. I already opened and drained the gearcase and I am about to replace plate and parts of the kit. I was just looking at videos, out of curiosity and watched yours. I expected to see how to replace the Net Drain not a tranny replacement...but again just curiosity
